Chili Teen Missing in South Carolina
by Cristina Domingues
Published Apr 27, 2009

Family and friends of a Gates Chili High School student are in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina searching for the teen who went missing while on spring break.

Brittanee Drexel, 17, went to South Carolina against her mother's wishes. Family members say they last heard from her Saturday night.

Her mom says Brittanee told her she was coming home and would see her the next day. She never showed up and her friends said they couldn't find her.

Brittanee's bags were still at the hotel where she was staying.

"She had gotten one last text from her boyfriend and she never responded back and this was from her leaving the hotel where she was at, and then going to the other hotel where her friends were at,” says Dawn Drexel, Brittanee’s mother. “And she just never showed up."

Police in South Carolina have filed a missing person's report. In that report, it says Brittanee suffers from depression.

So far police do not suspect foul play.

Counselors were available at Gates Chili High School Monday, where Brittanee is a junior.

“Person of Interest” Questioned in Brittanee Drexel Case

(Webster, N.Y./Myrtle Beach, S.C.) - A young man from Webster is being questioned in the disappearance of 16-year-old Brittanee Drexel of Chili in Myrtle Beach.

Brittanee's father, Chad Drexel, said local police will be talking to a young man from Webster on Wednesday. He is the last known person to see Brittanee on Saturday. He has retained attorney John Parrinello.

Chad Drexel said that he doesn't think Brittanee ran away; he wonders what the young man might he hiding since he "lawyered up."

13WHAM’s Sean Carroll spoke with Brittanee’s mother, Dawn Drexel, in Myrtle Beach and she has a message for the young man: "Brittanee is very special to us. We need to know what is going on. We need to know why the authorities weren't called. We need answers and we're not getting them."

Dawn Drexel said about 13 people from the area are in Myrtle Beach putting up fliers and looking for her.

The Myrtle Beach Police Department has interviewed friends and others involved in the case in their continuing investigation.

They said they’ve "attempted to gather every possible piece of evidence, video, cell. or other related evidence in the case."

While Brittanee’s mother is in Myrtle Beach, her father stayed here to care for the family’s younger children.

Brittanee went to Myrtle Beach Wednesday with friends without her mother's permission. She told her mother she was at a friend's house. Her mother didn't discover the deception until the friends called to tell her that Brittanee was missing

Unless this guy from Rochester, who unexpectedly ran back home for a 17 hour ride, at 2 O' clock in the morning, leaving everything there, including his DEPOSIT on the hotel room, is just plain scared.................

Or he had an evil hand in her disappearance. Or knows what happened.
Maybe they were partying and something happened.........
From last night's reporting, I believe the last they know of her alive was Sunday afternoon when she was seen by waitstaff having lunch in the hotel with a group of other kids, girls and boys... She was also seen Saturday afternoon at the same restaurant having lunch with a few girls...

I hope they are searching the area by the beach.....

Praying Brittanee comes home

The Brittanee Backstory

Last Update: 4/28 3:21 pm

Dawn Drexel was near exhaustion and tears when I spoke to her. She had been awake since Saturday night when she drove to Myrtle Beach to try and find her 17-year old daughter Brittanee.

Imagine a call telling you your daughter is missing. Then imagine not knowing she is a 1,000 miles away.

Dawn Drexel told me Brittanee had asked to go to Myrtle Beach on Wednesday with friends. Mom said no. Brittanee persisted. Mom insisted: "No."

Any parent of teen can imagine what happened next or maybe just I can. An argument ensued. When it was over, and things calmed down, Brittanee asked to go to a friend's house to chill out. Dawn asked whose house and said yes.

The next day Dawn says, she called Brittanee and asked to speak with the dad of the girl she was staying with. A man got on the phone and said all was fine. The "man" as it turns out was a boy. Probably a friend posing as dad and by that time Brittanee could have been in Myrtle Beach.

Dawn and daughter kept in touch daily but Dawn was still in the dark. Friday, they spoke and "made up". Brittanee apologized and told her mom she loved her. Dawn did the same. All seemed pretty good.

Saturday, Dawn went to the store to buy Brittanee soccer cleats as her club season was beginning this week. She called Brittanee to see what kind she wanted. When Dawn asked "What are you doing?". Brittanee said she was at the beach. "Oh, Charlotte", said Dawn. "It's a beautiful day!"

The next call came from friends saying Brittanee could not be found. The cell phone in which mother and daughter kept in touch several times a day went unanswered. The clothes in her hotel room untouched and left behind.

Mom's gut tells her something is wrong. She is worried out of her mind. I can't imagine living with that feeling for three minutes let alone three days.

As a parent, as mad as you might be at your teen, the important thing is to find them first and make this right. Deal with the rest later.

When they're babies, no one imagines life as the parent of a teen, but once you're there, you realize just about anything can happen.

Missing Chili Teen Reported Sighted

Last Update: 12:25 pm

According to the ABC affiliate in Myrtle Beach, WPDE, missing Chili teen Brittanee Drexel may have been seen.

Myrtle Beach police searched an area Wednesday morning after someone reported seeing Drexel get off a bus there.

Around 8:35 a.m. Wednesday, maids on a county bus in Myrtle Beach reported seeing a girl fitting Drexel’s description getting off a bus on North Ocean Boulevard. This is the same area where she was last seen.

Police showed the women a picture of Drexel and they identified her as the girl on the bus.

Officers canvassed the area searching for Drexel and remain in the area completing an intensive search, but she still hasn't been found. They are going through beach accesses in the area and visiting businesses to distribute fliers with Drexel's photo.

Drexel, 17, was reported missing early Sunday while visiting the area.

13WHAM’s Sean Carroll is in Myrtle Beach investigating this and any other new information in the case. We’ll bring you latest information as it becomes available.

Where is Brittanee Marie Drexel?
April 29, 2009

Brittanee Drexel Police in South Carolina are trying to determine what happened to Brittanee Marie Drexel, a 17-year-old junior at Gates Chili High School in Rochester, New York. Brittanee disappeared after a spring break trip to Myrtle Beach last week.

Brittanee's friends last saw her at about 8:00 p.m. Saturday, when she left the Bar Harbor Hotel to walk about a half-mile to the Bluewater Resort to visit a group of male friends from Rochester. The men, identified as Peter Brozowitz, Phillip Watson, Matthew Abrams and Keith Cummings, had first met up with Brittanee earlier that day at Club Kryptonite.

When the Myrtle Beach police questioned the men, they said that Brittanee had come to their hotel and visited with Brozowitz, but she supposedly left roughly ten minutes later to return an item of clothing to a friend back at the Bar Harbor Hotel.

At about 8:45 p.m., Brittanee sent a text message to one of her travel companions, informing the companion that she was on her way back. What happened to Brittanee after that remains a mystery.

When Brittanee failed to return phone calls from her friends, they became concerned, and notified others that Brittanee was missing.

According to Brittanee's mother, Dawn Drexel, she was unaware that her daughter had gone to South Carolina last Wednesday and thought that she was staying at a friend's house. Dawn said that she kept in regular contact with her daughter and had spoken with her on Saturday afternoon.

"I asked her what she was doing and she says, 'Oh, mom, I'm at the beach.' And it was an 80-degree day in Rochester so, of course, I thought maybe she was at the beach in Rochester with one of her girlfriends," Dawn said during an appearance on HLN's Nancy Grace last night. "I said, 'I love you, Brittanee,' and she says, 'I love you, Mom.' And then we hung up the phone."

Dawn did not learn of the deception until Sunday morning, when friends called to tell her that Brittanee was missing.

A family friend filed the initial missing person report with police on Sunday. When investigators went to the Bar Harbor Hotel, they discovered that all of Brittanee's belongings, except for her cell phone, were accounted for.

Brittanee Drexel is Missing: Police Search Video Surveillance Footage
April 30, 2009

As the Brittanee Drexel missing person case nears its sixth day since the teenager was last seen in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, the police are poring over hotel video surveillance footage and following up on new leads. Brittanee Drexel was last seen Saturdayaround 8 p.m. She was reported as missing at 5 a.m. the next morning by a family friend concerned that her friends had not heard from her for several hours.

CNN reported that one of the new leads Myrtle Beach Police followed up on was a probable sighting on a bus Wednesday morning in the Myrtle Beach area. Police showed photos of the missing girl to passengers hoping to get a positive identification.

Meanwhile, investigators are looking over hotel video surveillance footage in hopes of finding an image of 17-year-old Brittanee Drexel in order to build a timeline of her whereabouts up until her disappearance and perhaps later.

Brittanee Drexel went to Myrtle Beach last week with some friends on Spring Break, even though her mother had forbidden her to go. She remained in constant communication the entire time, however, and her mother believed her to be in her hometown of Rochester, New York, up until she went missing. Brittanee's boyfriend, after hearing from the friends she had went to the beach with that they had not seen her for hours, called John Hahn, a longtime family friend stationed at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. Hahn drove 2 and one-half hours to Myrtle Beach Sunday morning to file the missing person report.

Family members and the boyfriend arrived in Myrtle Beach later Sunday. All became active in trying to find Brittanee, passing out flyers, questioning people, and cooperating with the ongoing police investigation. There was also a report of a possible sighting at a restaurant on Sunday.

Thus far, no leads have panned out.

Brittanee Photo Released; Brozowitz "All but Cleared"
Reported by: Sean Carroll
Email: scarroll@13wham.com
Last Update: 6:20 pm

Myrtle Beach, S.C./Rochester, N.Y. - In the last few hours, pictures of Brittanee Drexel leaving the hotel were released to the public.

Otherwise, there have been no more reported sightings of Drexel 17, who went missing 5 days ago in Myrtle Beach.

The surveillance video of Brittanee entering and leaving the Blue Water Resort around 8 o'clock Saturday night represents her last known whereabouts but offers investigators few other clues.

Myrtle Beach Police have all but cleared a Peter Brozowitz of Webster of any possible involvement in Drexel's disappearance.

He was questioned in Rochester Wednesday in the presence of his attorney, John Parrinello.

Parrinello said his client is also willing to submit a DNA sample should investigators need it to further clear this man of any involvement.

Myrtle Beach, S.C.) -- Myrtle Beach Police confirmed Thursday morning that the girl spotted exiting a bus who matched the description of a missing teen from Chili was not Brittanee Drexel.

Around 8:35 a.m. Wednesday, maids on a county transit bus in Myrtle Beach reported seeing a girl fitting Drexel’s description getting off a bus on North Ocean Boulevard. This is the same area where she was last seen.

Myrtle Beach Police showed the women a picture of Drexel and they identified her as the girl on the bus. The police then conducted an intensive search of the area. They located the young woman and comfirmed she was not the missing girl.

Captain David Knipes, Myrtle Beach Police, said, "This is a transient crowd down here. It's very easy to blend in and certainly there's other people that will take her in and you don't know what's going to happen to her. So, you got to take it seriously."

Drexel, 17, was reported missing early Sunday while visiting the area.

13WHAM Reporter Sean Carroll is in Myrtle Beach to bring the latest information in the case.

Living overseas, my only TV source is Greta van Sustern, and she has become a politico, and not a very good one, if I dare say so.

As far as Greta is concerned, I wonder if that's because she doesn't get to bully a foreigner over it.

Searchers to Comb South Carolina for Missing New York Teen This Weekend

Saturday, October 17, 2009

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — Searchers are planning to comb parts of two South Carolina counties this weekend for a New York teen missing for six months.

The Sun News of Myrtle Beach reports that people on horseback and all-terrain vehicles are also using dogs to search parts of Georgetown and Charleston counties Saturday and Sunday for signs of Brittanee Drexel.

Drexel was reported missing April 26. She was last seen leaving a group of friends who had traveled with her from Rochester, N.Y., to visit people at another hotel in Myrtle Beach.

This weekend's search is not the first for clues in Drexel's disappearance. Officials and volunteers spent more than a week earlier this year searching the area where the teen's cell phone last sent a signal but did not find her.

Six months later, still no sign of Brittanee Drexel

Simply put, this might be one of the worst months of Chad Drexel's life.

He celebrated his missing daughter's 18th birthday on Oct. 7. A week later, he traveled to South Carolina to join a two-day search, hoping to find new clues about her whereabouts, but came back home to Rochester more dejected.

And today marks exactly six months since his daughter, Brittanee Drexel, was last seen.

"This is all very stomach-turning, draining, and I feel sick all the time," said Chad Drexel. "It's just a horrifying thought to search through the very thick woods, scared of what you might find. But I've got to keep doing whatever I can to find my little girl."
