Spector Guilty Of 2nd Degree Murder

LOS ANGELES -- Rock music producer Phil Spector was convicted Monday of second-degree murder in the shooting death of actress Lana Clarkson at his mansion six years ago.

A Superior Court jury returned the verdict after an estimated 29 to 30 hours of deliberations. The jury had the option of choosing involuntary manslaughter, but did not do so.

Spector's young wife, Rachelle, sobbed as the decision was announced.

The 40-year-old Clarkson, star of the 1985 cult film "Barbarian Queen," died of a gunshot fired in her mouth as she sat in the foyer of Spector's mansion in 2003. She met Spector only hours earlier at her job as a nightclub hostess.

Prosecutors argued Spector had a history of threatening women with guns when they tried to leave his presence.

The defense claimed she killed herself.

It was Spector's second trial. His first jury deadlocked 10-2, favoring conviction in 2007.

Thank God!

This scumbag had gotten away with so much stuff over the years just because he was a "star" He had shoved guns in other women's faces, several women got up and testified to that in that last trial and I think I know what went down that night based on what some of them had said, that he would do that if they did not want to have sex with him. I think he thought he was going to get lucky, and I think poor Lana thought that maybe he could help her in her career which was not going well, and I think he tried to seduce her and she wanted no part of it, he was highly intoxicated and decided to do what he had done with other women, he tried to rape her and she fought him so he shot her, she was no more suicidal than I am right now! One woman testified that he shoved the gun in her mouth and that is where Lana suffered her fatal gun shot wound. The limo driver even heard the shot and Spector tried to run the suicide spin with him, but he testified that he was trying to get into Lana's pants in the limo before the murder!!

Now the last trial, it was 10-2 to convict him and that was why a mistrial was declared and I think this jury saw beyond the "celeb status" and saw him for what he really was, a murdering little troll and did ya all see his face? I think he thought he was gonna walk again and this time double jeopardy would have applied and he looked shell shocked just like OJ did, it hit him hard you could see that, reality just bit him right in the ass, that this time he was going to prison for his actions and he is basically facing a life sentence, he is 69 years old and I heard he could get 18-life so he will probably die in prison and the judge just like with OJ was thinking ahead and remanded him, the money he has could buy him a ticket to a non extraditable country.

Just like with OJ he is just inmate #12345 instead of the big record mogul that he was, his "castle" will now be an 8x10 cell, co-existing with other hard core murderers instead of rubbing shoulders with celebrities and gourmet meals will not be served, it is going to be really hard for this ego maniac to adjust to prison life but he has no one to blame but himself, forcing himself on a woman, and then shooting her to death, his luck has ran out and now there is justice finally for a woman who just wanted somebody to give her the big break, so many young women go to Hollywood hoping to be discovered and they are taken advantage of all the time by people like him.

In other words, these naive women get to know real quick what their knees are for and I am betting over the years he forced many women down on their knees and they do it because they want to be a star and sadly, many of them end up on the mean streets of LA, far far away from the bright lights of Hollywood, as Bret Michaels says in his song, "Mama's Fallen Angels" Lana was a beautiful woman and from what I read, a very sweet person who wanted to be an actress, but she just did not have what it took to be the next Julia Roberts and that is so sad and I feel for her greatly, everyone wants to be somebody and maybe she should have stayed home and married the guy next door. You could make this sad story into a Lifetime movie that she will never star in. At least now her family has some vindication for her, that this POS did not get away with it like he thought he would, another so called celeb that thought he was above the law, "I fought the law and the law won" Gee, too bad that was already a song otherwise ole Philly here could write it!! Can't wait to see how much time he pulls!!

I am so pleased with this verdict. Spector was a mean little man when filled with booze.

Hi Wind. As usual, your post is excellent. I, too, am very happy THIS jury finally got it right. This crazy little troll is going to the slammer where he will hopefully, RECEIVE the same type of abuse he inflicted on so many women. What a little, insignificant shell of a human being.
See ya at the other threads, Wind!

About Lana Clarkson

Date of Birth
5 April 1962, Long Beach, California, USA

Date of Death
3 February 2003, Alhambra, California, USA (gunshot wound)

Birth Name
Lana Jean Clarkson

Height
5' 11" (1.80 m)

This beautiful, long-legged blonde actress was known to be a kind, intelligent and dependable actor with a comedic talent as well. She appeared in many American TV hits of the 1970s and 1980s, such as "Three's Company" (1977), "The Jeffersons" (1975), "Mike Hammer" (1984), "Riptide" (1984), "Knight Rider" (1982), "Who's the Boss?" (1984), "The A-Team" (1983), "Night Court" (1984), "Wings" (1990) and "Silk Stalkings" (1991), among others. Her big-screen debut came in the 1982 Amy Heckerling film Fast Times at Ridgemont High (1982), as the character Mrs. Vargas. This film starred Sean Penn and Jennifer Jason Leigh. Lana then landed a role in the Roger Corman fantasy epic Deathstalker (1983). This led to her being offered the title role in Corman's next film, the cult classic Barbarian Queen (1985). It was this association with the legendary Corman that really put Lana on the B-movie map. After starring in "Barbarian Queen" as the sword-wielding lead, a character Corman fondly refers to as "the original Xena," Lana then reprised the role in the sequel Barbarian Queen II: The Empress Strikes Back (1989).

Lana's larger-than-life personality and striking beauty, along with several of the movie roles she chose, inspired a cult fan following. This warm fanfare was further cemented by her work in the John Landis spoof Amazon Women on the Moon (1987). She was always a favorite at the ever-growing comic book conventions, where she happily signed autographs and was known to be friendly and accessible to all of her loyal fans, both young and old alike.

Lana also did stunt work in Retroactive (1997). Her last film was March (2001), as Dr. Ellen Taylor. Even though she did not do many movies toward the end of her life, she found success working in television commercials, for such products as Mercedes-Benz, Nike, Anheiser Busch, Playtex bras, Kmart and Mattel. She had been spending her time creating comedic characters for many of these companies. While working for the KMART Corp., Lana made personal appearances as the character she created for the Route 66 clothing campaign, Katie Earline Wilson. She was an actress who had more to offer Hollywood in the future, had her life not been cut so tragically short.

Watching PP&J and Dominick Dunne speaks of his own life as a failure in Hollywood (remarking that he doesn't believe that Lana would take her own life). Very honest and gritty reporting.

Spector "Enraged with Hate at That Judge for Sending Me Here"

Phil Spector from Prison: 'I'm Enraged with Hate at That Judge for Sending Me Here'

In a letter that Phil Spector — currently serving 19-years-to-life for murdering Lana Clarkson — wrote to a pen pal, and exclusively obtained by Gawker, the music legend is convinced that he is the true victim of his crime.

The last we paid attention to Spector, 69, he had been un-wigged and locked up for likely the remainder of his life after Clarkson "kissed the gun" he put in her mouth one drunken night in 2003. But he still has supporters, including Sandra Horine, a 43-year-old mother of two from Alice, Texas, who has become one of his prison pen pals.

A letter that he wrote to her in July (reproduced in full below) paints a picture of Spector as an angry and bitter man, remorseless about his crime and consumed by a victim complex. Spector, who signs off as the "Wizard of Iz," listed a raft of complaints about life at the Corcoran State Prison where he is locked in a 7 foot by 3 foot cell 23 hours a day, from how the guards intimidate him, to not being able to see his wife, Rachelle, to the "cruel" way that he was sent away before he had a chance to settle his business affairs. "They call this a "civilized" society. Bugs live more civilized beneath their rocks!"

Aww Prison life and the ensuing bitter remorseless unhappiness couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

RIP Lana.
