Parents ask for help to find boys


PLYMOUTH TOWNSHIP -- Police are continuing their search today for 15-year-old Justin Lee Wainwright, who they believe is in "extreme danger" after allegedly being abducted by an 18-year-old co-worker early Monday.

The accusations surfaced in an Amber Alert issued before midnight Tuesday for the township teen. But some family members say cops are wrong -- the two are best friends who "just needed a vacation."

Cheryl Zohr, the mother of Northville resident Joshua Kyle Zohr, 18, said her son would never harm Justin.

A lot of the information that's out there is false. It's making our son look like he's this really bad child and he's not," Zohr told The Detroit News.

Zohr has a copy of a note Justin's parents found on his bed at 6:30 a.m. Monday.

"I did not bring my phone and will not be staying in touch," Zohr said, reading from the note. "I want no connection to this life for a week or so. It's just a break. It turned out Josh needed one too."

Although neither teen has a criminal history, police say writings found are "very troubling."

Police said the pair is traveling in Zohr's red 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix with a Michigan license plate BYP 1180. The car's plate was randomly checked by an Ohio State Highway Patrol officer at 5:43 a.m. Monday at a rest stop near Dayton, Ohio, off Interstate 70 between the Indiana state line and Columbus. The check was conducted before the Amber Alert was issued.

By late Tuesday, Plymouth Township police received 20 to 30 tips from friends and strangers who thought they spotted the pair. None has panned out.

Plymouth Township Police Chief Thomas J. Tiderington would not disclose specifics, but Zohr's mother claims investigators are drawing their concerns of safety for Justin from a diary her son kept in 2005 during a family trip to Florida. He said "he didn't want to go on the trip, hated to go and wanted to commit suicide." He was exaggerating, she said.

Plymouth Twp. teen returns; absence puzzles

Police are still trying to sort out why a 15-year-old Plymouth Township boy took off with an employee of his parents and went missing for days before returning home Thursday
"We're trying to figure out where they went and what they did," Plymouth Township Police Chief Thomas Tiderington said Thursday.

Plymouth Township Detective Sgt. Steve Rapson said Justin Lee Wainwright, 15, and Joshua Kyle Zohr, 18, of Northville returned home at 10:15 a.m.

Both appeared to be in good condition with no injuries.

Justin was last seen by his family members on Sunday night and his disappearance with Zohr triggered a multistate Amber Alert.

Tiderington said Justin was not coerced into going away with Zohr.

"It does not appear that way at this point," he said.

He said what they've learned so far is, "that they needed a break -- beyond that we don't have more information," Tiderington said.

Neither family could be reached for comment.

Tiderington said he couldn't say what charges, if any, might be filed.

"We'll probably have more tomorrow." Tiderington said.
