Janet Lea Hughes a former teacher Titusville Florida enters plea agreement. Police uncovered a sexual relationship between a former Jackson Middle School teacher and a student, prosecutors and the defense for Janet Lea Hughes say they continue to work toward a plea agreement in the case.
Attorneys are expected to announce their progress on the case during a docket hearing set for 8: 30 a.m. Friday before Circuit Judge Jack Griesbaum in Titusville.
Hughes was arrested in April 2007 after authorities said undercover police officers meeting at a church to discuss an unrelated case caught the then 32-year-old and a 16-year-old boy in a van parked outside the building.
Officers determined the two were about to have
sex, and authorities say the two admitted to having had sex before.
Court records show Hughes, now 34, is charged with one count each of sexual battery on a child by a familial or custodial authority and attempted sexual battery on a child by a familial or custodial authority.
