Karen Binder
Karen Binder, 44, of Manalapan, New Jersey, a former teacher at Colonia High School who was charged with sending
sexually explicit text messages to two students was thrown out of the pretrial intervention program by an appeals court panel. The judges ordered Binder’s case “restored to the normal course of prosecution.”
Binder was indicted in July 2007 on two counts of official misconduct for sending the the text messages to two students, then aged 16 and 17.
Reportedly, Binder applied for the pre-trial intervention program and the prosecutor’s office denied her application saying that although Binder had no criminal record, on the date she submitted her PTI application, she was issued motor vehicle summonses for driving while intoxicated and careless driving and she had refused to provide a urine specimen as required in the PTI process.
