Ex-beauty queen, mom arrested in fake bills scheme
A former New Jersey beauty pageant winner and her mother are accused of passing fake $50 bills at two stores near the Jersey shore.
North Wildwood police have filed charges of forgery, conspiracy to commit forgery and possession of forgery devices against 21-year-old Ashley Fuhrmeister - who won the Miss North Wildwood crown in 2007 - and her 44-year-old mother, Kelly Nowacky.
Fuhrmeister says she and her mother are innocent.
Authorities say the pair made purchases with the fake bills at a convenience store in North Wildwood and at a store in Wildwood last month.
A third person accused in the case, John Laughlin of Dennis Township, was charged with forgery and conspiracy to commit forgery. It's unclear if Laughlin has a lawyer.
