Bristol Palin Faults Abstinence Teaching

(Feb. 17) - In her first interview since giving birth to her son, Tripp, in December, Bristol Palin talks about abstinence, breaking the news of her pregnancy to her parents and her future plans.

"I don't regret it at all, I just wish it would have happened in 10 years rather than right now," Palin, 18, said of becoming a teenage mom. Palin talked to Fox News' Greta Van Susteren in Alaska.

"It's not something to strive for ... I'm not the first person it's happened to and I'm not going to be the last."

Asked about her views on teaching abstinence, which her mother, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, advocates, Bristol said, "it's not realistic at all."

The teen's pregnancy was revealed in August, just after her mother was chosen to be the vice presidential running mate for Republican Sen. John McCain.

Palin said it "doesn't matter" what her mother's view on abortion are, "it was my choice to have the baby."

The governor popped in on the interview carrying her first grandchild.

"I'm proud of her to want to take on an advocacy role and let other girls know that it's not the most ideal situation, but certainly you make the most of it," Gov. Palin said.

Bristol described breaking the news of her pregnancy to her parents as "harder than labor."

"I couldn't even say it, I was just sick to my stomach and so finally my best friend just blurted it out."

Palin said she and the baby's father, Levi Johnston, plan to marry "eventually" but are focused on getting through school right now. She said Johnston sees the baby every day and is a "really hands-on dad."
