Not so recent, but ..
Okay, so I just read about this in the book I am reading at the moment. It's not recent, but I haven't found a post about it yet and thought this would be the best place to post about it .. Anyways ..
Charles Whitman Jr.
Killed 17 people. Injured 31.
On August 1, 1966 he went on a killing spree. It started off with his mother, then his wife. Then he went to the University of Texas. He sat on the 30th floor of the clock tower (in the observation area) and shot students, faculty, and people on the street below him. Charles wanted to be caught, because he left a note on his typewriter explaining why he did it. His reason.. He hated his father. The police bombardded the tower. Policemen went up the elevator and into the room he was in. Three officers shot at him until he fell to the ground. Still moving, McCoy (one of the people shooting at him) grabbed a shot gun from someone else and shot him point blank in the head.
I found this pretty interesting .. Any other opinions?
