Jefferson High School teacher Paul D. Roberts, 42, bonded out of jail Saturday night after getting arrested on a charge of engaging in an improper relationship with a student. On Friday Roberts was spotted have sex with an 18-year-old female student in a Jefferson High School classroom.
I talked with Justin DeHoyos, one of his Paul Robert's former students. DeHoyos graduated from Jefferson last May. He says Roberts was his history teacher his junior year. He's not exactly surprised by the arrest.
“With the girls -- he was a lot more friendlier,” explained DeHoyos. “Kids and teachers shouldn't be messing around with each other like that - and for it to get that far... and then get caught.”
According to the arrest warrant, a custodian and a student walked in on Roberts and a female teenage student having sexual relations in a classroom.
The girl told police Roberts put his hands on her breasts last January, and that the touching was consensual. She says they continued flirting throughout the year and in September she says Roberts put his hand inside her panties then she touched his penis. Then on Friday he was touching her again. That's when police say a custodian and student spotted the two in Roberts classroom.
“We take these matters very seriously, and we quickly began an investigation and he has resigned,” school spokesperson Leslie Price told News 4 WOAI.
“I'm pretty sure they're gonna start questioning the board - asking teachers, 'What about other students?'”
Roberts taught social studies at Jefferson. He has lived in San Antonio for twenty-six years. He attended UTSA and majored in Geography. The San Antonio Independent School District says Roberts has resigned and is no longer employed by the district.
