BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - More than 10,000 people laced up their sneakers for the annual YMCA Turkey Trot.
The finish line had an extra special meaning for one runner.

It's a Buffalo Thanksgiving tradition, the running of the Turkey Trot, and it wouldn't be complete without a full cast of characters.

There were Pilgrims and Indians and people with turkey on the brain.
Several of Santa's helpers also ran the race.

"I have fun and we have a party afterwards so it's a good time," said Running Santa Craig Bloom.

One guy we weren't sure of what he was, but he had the most unique running gear.

"I just zip it up in the back and I'm good to go."

Even News 4's own Victoria Hong took on the Turkey Trot challenge. "It's crazy, the most exciting thing."

"More than 10,000 people came out today to take part in the 8 kilometer race down Delaware Avenue."

"It's hard to actually run-run it, so you've just got to take it easy and have a good time."

But it wasn't hard for this year's female winner, 25-year-old Aileen Hoak, who won for the second straight year.

Aileen Hoak, winning female: "It was nice, it's nice out, it's almost hot - for Buffalo."

First-time Turkey trotters had a great time.

14-year-old Connor Godfrey said, "It was fun, I've run a couple of races for Canisius High School on the cross country team but this is by far my longest, I usually run 5ks."

But this year's race may be most memorable for Marc Frisicaro who proposed to his girlfriend Sunny Sisley near the finish line.

"I'm in shock, I can't see anything and I - she was supposed to be waiting at the finish line and she was up there so we had to grab her and drag her across the finish line."
