BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - For many western New York families, it's another holiday without a loved one.

One military wife is willing to cope with being married to a hero.

Maryann Waters last saw her husband Bobby in October, soon after his visit he was one his way back to Afghanistan, being stationed in middle east since January of this year, it's hasn't been easy for Maryann to get by without the little things so many of us take for granted

"Having somebody to talk to at night," said Maryann Waters. A lot of it has to do with revolving around not having somebody to vent to at the end of the day, You know, someone to give a hug when you need one."

An extra set of hands would help too, Maryanne says, a few months back the roof on her utility shed caved in after a storm, suddenly became a job for bobby a learning experience for Maryann.

"I had to go out there and take care of that. Luckily, my mom and dad are there to help."

While Maryann admits, moments like these on the phone with her husband are few and far between lately, she knows why her hero as she refers to him, is doing the job he's doing.

"Bobby is very, 'don't make a big deal of it.' He's like 'this is something I do, it's very important to me' and he doesn't feel it's a sacrifice. It's just something he's doing."

News 4 is paying tribute to those serving in the U.S. military.
