Police are appealing for public help as they search for a six-year-old boy and two-year-old girl abducted by a man in Sydney's west.

The children were abducted from a house in Lawrence Street , Fairfield at 8am on Saturday by a 37-year-old man driving a grey Suzuki Vitara , police said.

The man made threats agains the safety of the children and police said they hold serious concern for their welfare.

The man , who is known to the children , is described as being of Indian appearance with medium build , about 160-165cm tall and weighing 70-75kg.

Police are looking for his grey Suzuki , with NSW registration XNS 191. Electric signs on major roads in Sydney are carrying messages asking motorists to look for the car.

Two young children abducted for more than 30 hours from their western Sydney home have been returned to their mother safe and well.

They were reunited with thier mother at 3:45pm on Sunday.

Police had planned to release the man's identity before the children were returned.

The man remains on the run from police.

A man who allegedly sparked an Amber Alert for child abduction will face court today.

The 37-year-old is accused of taking two children from Fairfield Saturday morning.

He was known to the six-year-old boy and two-year-old girl , the man has been charged with eight counts of breaching a domestic violence order.

He has been refused bail and will face Fairfield Court today.
