Autopsy Scheduled Saturday On Body Found

An autopsy is scheduled for Saturday to identify a body found in Daphne Friday afternoon.

Authorities believe its the body of Brianna Parish.

Baldwin County District Attorney Judy Newcomb said, "Unfortunately, we believe we have found Brianna Parish."

But there are still more questions than answers.

When asked whether there was any obvious cause of death, Daphne Police Chief David Carpenter said, "No, not at this time."

He did say police are treating the case as a homicide.

Carpenter said the department had no suspects but did have people of interest.

He said, "We served a search warrant today (Friday) on a vehicle and hopefully something will come up, I do not know. We treat it as a person of interest."

Carpenter also said he didn't know if it was a stranger who killed Parish, if she was killed where her body was found and that he didn't know as of Friday night whether Parish was raped.

James White said he knew Parish from school.

White said, "She was a great person, great personality, good sense of humor. I just can't believe this happened to her."

People at the Bay House Pub in Daphne Friday night reflected on Parish's death.

Parish was last seen outside the business Wednesday morning.

Enna Gilihan of Daphne said, "I just heard about it earlier today and it was just devastating that it happened in the area."

Jason Horn of Daphne said, "I've got a nine year old child, a nine year old little girl and that hits home. When you have a child yourself, the devastation that that mother is going through and that family is, is something I couldn't understand."

Body of missing woman is found in Daphne, Ala., not far from pub where she disappeared

DAPHNE — In the woods beside the city's wastewater treatment plant, the body of a 21-year-old woman who had been missing nearly three days was discovered Friday by a team of searchers that included her mother, sisters and other close family members.

Brianna Parish had vanished around 1 a.m. Wednesday from the parking lot of Bay House Pub, a short distance from the thicket where her body was found. A friend had gone inside the pub while Parish stayed outside to talk on her cell phone. A half-hour later, her friend realized she still hadn't come inside.

With the help of more than 50 volunteers, a nonprofit team from Florida coordinated the search for Parish.

The Southwest Search and Rescue K-9 Team, based in Molino, Fla., led the eight-team search through the thick, thorny woods near the pub.

The sun was dimming and most of the sweating team members had slouched back toward the command center at St. Paul's Episcopal Church when, shortly after 4 p.m., the call went out on the radios: A body had been found, and it was apparently Brianna's.

Soon, cars parked near the site and dozens of family and friends gathered, most of them sitting in the grass beside the nameless lane leading to the wastewater plant.

Some cried till they coughed and choked. Others held those who cried.

The woman's mother, Sylinda Parish, was half-carried by family members up the hill from the woods, toward Main Street. The grandmother of the victim, Dot Parish, dashed through the yellow police tape and embraced her daughter-in-law.

21-year-old woman found dead, possibly raped

DAPHNE, Ala. — A member of a search team looking for a 21-year-old woman who had been reported missing since Wednesday found her body in a ditch near Daphne Utilities' water treatment plant, police Chief David Carpenter said.

Police identified Brianna Parish's body by tattoos and physical characteristics, according to Carpenter, who said forensic specialists today will have confrimed her ID by fingerprints.

No one has been detained in connection with the incident, which the police chief said is being treated as a homicide; however, authorities have confirmed there are people of interest and the investigation is ongoing.

There is no obvious cause of death, Carpenter said, and though the media have heard murmurs that Parish was raped, the police chief said he is unaware if it's true.

A member of a search team organized by Parish's family had discovered the body, according to police.

Police Capt. Scott Taylor said law enforcement officials received a 4:20 p.m. call alerting them of the body.

The Daphne PD, a coroner and an FBI team, among others, were at the scene Friday evening, investigating clues and evidence.

Mr. White, a friend of Parish's, said at the scene he was stunned to hear the news.

"I got a call saying that they (found) the body and ... I can't believe it," he said. "You hear that this stuff happens every day, but not to your friends."

White, who said he hadn't talked to Parish in months, suspected no one specifically, but he pointed out the proximity of the crime scene to Bay Breeze Apartments, a complex located beyond a small wooded area close to the sewage plant.

"My guess is it's somebody that lives in the apartments," he said.

A friend had last seen Parish, a Daphne High School graduate, at 1 a.m. Wednesday at Bay House Pub, a bar on Bay Line Drive, police said.

"The Bay House Pub is safe—Daphne's safe...," Carpenter said.

Still, White said, "It's a peaceful little town, and a stuff like that's not meant to happen."

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call the police department, 621-9100.

Woman's last night recounted: Brianna Parish reportedly met with man just before she disappeared

DAPHNE — Homicide victim Brianna Parish's last phone conversation was with a man who had hit on her at a bar in Fairhope late Tuesday night, according to the slain woman's mother.

Sylinda Parish, the mother, said Daphne police told her that the same man later told investigators that he saw the woman outside Bay House Pub off U.S. 98 in Daphne, but left after failing to persuade her to go home with him.

Daphne police Capt. Danny Bell said he could neither confirm nor deny whether investigators have spoken to the man, nor would he comment on other aspects of the probe.

"It's an ongoing investigation," he said. "Hopefully, we would be able to clear up and clarify things soon. But right now, we're not going to be able to comment."

Police have not identified the man who allegedly talked to Brianna Parish, and police reported no arrests as of late Saturday.

Relatives in a search party found the 21-year-old woman's body Friday beside Daphne's sewage treatment plant, just down the road from Bay House Pub. She had been missing since early Wednesday morning when she and a friend stopped off at the Daphne bar.

Earlier, Tuesday night, the pair had gone to the Jubilee Lounge near U.S. 98 and Morphy Avenue in Fairhope to shoot pool with the friend's mother and uncle.

It was there that Brianna Parish began talking to a man who appeared to be in his 40s, and the two swapped phone numbers, said the friend, who asked not to be identified because of fear for her safety.

She and Brianna left Jubilee Lounge at about 12:30 a.m. After a quick stop at her home, the friend said she and Brianna then headed for Bay House Pub in Brianna's car to meet another group of friends.

The friend, a former classmate at Daphne High School, said Brianna Parish and the man from the Jubilee Lounge spoke by phone on the ride over but added that she does not know what they talked about.

Brianna Parish To Be Laid To Rest This Week

Unshaven and tired, Brianna Parish's father Bruce is still numb. He says his daughter was travelling the country to figure out a plan for her life.

“She went to Baton Rouge without incident. Stayed in Las Vegas with no problem,” says Bruce Parish. “She lived in New York City and went walking through Central Park without incident and she comes back to Daphne Alabama and is murdered.”

Get Brianna's Killer

I read the articles and the blogs for the most part they are kind. Nothing can stop our pain at this time, but not putting more on us is what I ask. The slanderous and hateful blogs are so hard. The Daphne Police have been cold, distant and lazy. If they had simply looked in a 1/2 mile radius she would of been home sooner (maybe alive), our family members would not be caring the vision of her in the ditch for the rest of their lives. We are working on this, you just don't see it, all said without emotion or consideration or the human thing would be to reach out with some compassion. I have lived in baldwin county since 1963 now I am ashamed to live here. I do need to give a big thank you to the local television media, they have all been kind and respectful. Please if there is any information about the case contact the family.AuntD

‘Person Of Interest’ Named In Brianna Parish Murder

. . . . .

Daphne police have named a "person of interest" in the Brianna Parish murder case.

Police say 43-year-old Troy MacDonald is the last person who was seen with Parish Tuesday night, the night she vanished from the Bay House Pub on Highway 98.

Parish's body was found Friday at a nearby sewage treatment plant. She was naked from the waist down. Police say reports of a bag over her head are not true.

Parish's purse, wallet, cell phone and car keys are all missing.

Friends remember former Bridge City woman as bubbly, outgoing

From her three years in Southeast Texas, Brianna Parish left her friends with keepsakes and fond memories - dozens of photos from nights out, clothes she swapped to play dress up and at least one "gaudy" necklace.

She is remembered as the center of attention and as a kind woman who never met an enemy.

Parish was found dead Friday in Daphne, Ala., a half-mile from the bar where she was last seen three days earlier talking on her cell phone.

On Monday, Daphne police released the name of a 43-year-old man who they say was one of the last people to see Parish alive outside the Bay House Pub. The man is not a suspect, but police said he may have a "possible drug connection" to Parish.

Capt. Daniel Bell of the Daphne Police Department would not release the cause of Parish's death or whether she may have been buying drugs the night she disappeared.

"We don't want to be too specific," Bell said. "We're hoping that this will produce some additional leads."

The 43-year-old man lives in the Mobile area.

Suspect In Daphne Slaying- Drug-Related

DAPHNE, Ala. (AP) --
Police have identified 43-year-old Troy MacDonald as a person of interest in the murder of 21-year-old Brianna Parish, whose half-naked body was found in a ditch near a Daphne pub where she was last seen.

Daphne Police Lt. Jud Beedy said Monday at a news conference that MacDonald, who was last seen with Parish before she disappeared, is cooperating with investigators.

No arrests have been made.

Beedy said investigators suspect the slaying was drug-related.

The victim's family said Parish was not involved in drugs. Her mother, Sylinda Parish, said if an autopsy reveals any drugs in her body, "the killer would have put them there."

Parish was last seen around 1 a.m. Wednesday in the parking lot of the Bay House Pub. Her body was found Friday.

Parish’s Parents Dispute Police

The father of Brianna Parish said he's "infuriated" by a statement made by Daphne Police.

Yesterday, a police lieutenant said Brianna had been arrested on drug charges in the past.

But Bruce Parish said Brianna was arrested for having a prescription pill in her purse about two years ago, and that an investigation found it was an anti-anxiety medication.

New details involving the murder of Brianna Parish were released at a police press conference in Daphne Monday, but there are still a lot of unanswered questions surrounding the young woman's death.

Brianna Parish Murder: Co-Worker of Person of Interest Speaks Out

Excerpt: MacDonald works at Fairhope Paint and Body. A co-worker there who did not want to be identified told NBC 15 News that MacDonald didn't show up to work the day after Parish went missing.

"He showed up Thursday and you could tell something was on his mind really hard," the co-worker said.

The co-worker said there was something different about MacDonald's appearance, as well. "He always wears shorts and it appeared his legs was scratched up."

Parish Murder: A Wake Up Call To Women?

The unsolved murder of 21 year old Brianna Parish has some women concerned for their own safety.

The Baldwin County woman's murder has shocked social scenes like Dauphin Street.

Many women we spoke with say Parish's murder has served as a wake up call to be more aware of their surroundings.

The owners of the Dauphin Street Taqueria tell News Five security is a top priority for them.
"That's why we've got video surveillance in the entire building in our parking lot next to us..we've also got the cop cameras on every corner. And then we got a door guy that always walks us to our car, so no female here goes to her car by herself," Said Shannon Harley, Dauphin Street Taqueria.

Experts say women should always try to travel in groups, especially when out at night. Take notice of your surroundings. Once you get in your car, lock it and drive off. According to experts women have a tendency to sift through their purse or fumble around with other things, making them an easy target.

By Thomas Boni - Daphne Bulletin Editor

POLICE: WE WILL SOLVE THIS CASE

Police name person of interest in Brianna Parish death case

DAPHNE, Ala.— A person of interest has been identified in connection with the death of a 21-year-old female found Friday near the Daphne Utilities sewage plant.

Troy MacDonald, an Eastern Shore resident, was the last person who talked to Brianna Parish, whose body was found around 4 p.m. Friday, according to Lt. Jud Beedy, who wouldn’t say if MacDonald was at the Bay House Pub the night Parish disappeared, but confirmed he cooperated with police.

No suspects, however, have been identified in connection with the incident that police have treated as a homicide; a suspect, unlike a person of interest, would “get closer to criminal charges,” Beedy said.

Autopsy results are unavailable and police said the cause of death is still undetermined.

Though early murmurs suggested Parish was raped, police, who wouldn’t confirm the allegation, said her body was found unclothed from the waist down.

“We wanna work with the media but there are things that we are unable to release at this time,” police Chief David Carpenter said.

Drugs may have played a role in the incident, according to police, who said Parish had past drug charges, but wouldn’t report MacDonald’s priors.

Bruce Parish, Brianna’s father, refuting the Daphne PD’s claim, said to a WKRG-TV 5 reporter that Brianna was arrested for having a prescription pill in her purse about two years ago, but an investigation found it was an anti-anxiety medication.

A search team found Parish, who had been reported missing since Nov. 12, in a ditch near Daphne Utilities’ sewage plant, Carpenter said.

Police on Friday identified Parish’s body by tattoos and physical characteristics, according to Carpenter, who said forensic specialists Saturday confirmed her ID by fingerprints.

Police Capt. Scott Taylor said law enforcement officials received a 4:20 p.m. call alerting them of the body.

The Daphne PD, a coroner and an FBI team, among others, were at the scene Friday evening, investigating clues and evidence.

James White, who was close to Parish, said he was stunned to hear the news.

“I got a call saying that they (found) the body and ... I can’t believe it,” he said at the scene. “You hear that this stuff happens every day, but not to your friends.”

Friends had last seen Parish—a Daphne High School graduate who’d two weeks prior moved back here from Texas—at 1 a.m. Wednesday at Bay House Pub, a bar on Bay Line Drive, police said.

Despite Parish’s alleged abduction, Carpenter insisted the Jubilee City is secure.

“The Bay House Pub is safe—Daphne’s safe...,” he said.

Still, White said, “It’s a peaceful little town, and stuff like that’s not meant to happen.”

Parish lived in Mobile with her sister, Miranda, having grown up in Daphne.

“In her short years on this Earth, Bri lived a full and happy life and was loved by all who knew her. Her candle burned very bright and was extinguished way too soon,” family members said in a statement. “She touched many more lives than can be counted and will be terribly missed by all.”

Brianna Parish—or “Bri,” as her friends called her—believed that people should “love life,” according to her MySpace Web page. Some ‘bumper stickers’ on the site that give insight into her life include “I (heart) my family” and an image that showed her support for breast-cancer awareness. Her interests included “hanging out with friends and family, being in the sun ... music, movies, road trips, working out ... swimming, hiking, dancing” and “basically just enjoying life,” according to the site.

Her boyfriend’s MySpace page—with a photo of him and Parish embracing by water—has 30 comments from friends. A few, dated around the time of Parish’s being reported missing, offer words of encouragement—“Shes prob just takin a break or sumthin sumwhere ya kno,” wrote one friend; some were optimistic—“Hopefully its just something minor I’m sure she’s fine and will be back home soon,” wrote another.

Ultimately, the comments became condolences.

His status message simply says, “I have never felt so sad in my life.”

Parish’s page—with a photo of her and perhaps a friend sipping cocktails—included 25 friends’ comments dated after the announcement of her death. Most comments, directly addressing Parish, said ‘rest in peace’; many anticipated her afterlife; and one expressed frustration over her final hours.

“I can’t believe it ... I don’t want to,” wrote username “Jac(qui).” “I am so upset that you had to go through something like that sweetie.

“I don’t understand how this could happen to someone so wonderful.”

Dr. Sonya Rogers, a counselor, said the comments may help survivors deal with the grieving process or find some sense of closure.

“It’s not a form of denial but it’s a way for them to slowly let go of that person, rather than it being so sudden,” she said. “ It kind of keeps the person’s memory, their being, alive a little longer until they can get through the grieving process.”

Speaking to a loved one who has died, through cyberspace, may offer one mode of goodbye, Rogers said.

“It seems unrealistic but it’s a way for people to deal with that person because they didn’t get to say goodbye, or a way of just letting the feelings be expressed.”

While family and friends find their own way to grieve, police seem committed to finding Parish’s killer.

“It’s a terrible case; no one wants to be involved in something like this,” Beedy said.

“But it’s our job and we’re gonna work on it until it gets solved.”

Family incensed by Daphne, Ala., police remarks about slain 21-year-old Brianna Parish and drugs

Dad says victim's Texas drug case was dismissed because she had prescription

DAPHNE — Nearly one week after Brianna Parish vanished from a bar parking lot, family members continued to fume Tuesday about comments police made suggesting that drugs were involved in the 21-year-old's homicide.

"The same day we sat down and shared what information we had with them, they did this," Bruce Parish, Brianna Parish's father, said Tuesday, just a few hours before his daughter's viewing at Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home. He said his daughter's only drug arrest had been thrown out because she had a prescription for the drug an officer found on her during a traffic stop.
