The reward is now $50,000 thanks to Microsoft matching the original reward offered for missing teen.

Parents and volunteers try to remain hopeful as they search for Brandon who has now been missing 2 weeks.

Clue in search for Barrie teen
Second person reports seeing Brandon Crisp the day he disappeared

The Canadian Press

ORO-MEDONTE TOWNSHIP, Ont.–For the first time in almost three weeks, police have new evidence in their search for a missing 15-year-old Barrie boy.

A second person has reported seeing Brandon Crisp on a trail between Barrie and Orillia on Oct. 13, the day he disappeared.

During a weekend traffic canvass, a witness told authorities they saw Crisp east of Line 3 on the day he ran away from home following an argument with his parents.

The sighting matches a similar witness account from that day, but the new information places him heading away from Barrie.

"That changes the focus, because it puts him farther beyond the original point where he was last seen," Sgt. Dave Goodbrand said yesterday. "It helps us better develop that timeline. This witness points him between the third and fourth lines, which is farther up the trail."

However, the new information doesn't mean more searches will be conducted, Goodbrand said, because the boy was still spotted within the original search grid.

Police are again pleading for information from people who were using the trail on Thanksgiving between Line 3 and Line 4.

Even though the sighting is a few weeks old, it gives police new hope in their search.

Crisp ran away from home after being grounded because of his addiction to an Xbox game, which his parents said he played "every waking hour of the day."

Unfortunately, this has a sad ending. :-(

Body of 15-year-old who fought with his parents over a video game is found in woods northeast of Barrie

Nov 05, 2008 06:02 PM

Robyn Doolittle
Staff Reporter
Investigators do not suspect foul play in the death of 15-year-old Brandon Crisp, whose body was found in woods northeast of Barrie today after a huge police and community search following his disappearance Oct. 13. Officers made the statement during a joint press conference conducted by Barrie police and the Ontario Provincial Police late this afternoon.

They said the body appears to be that of Crisp, who ran away from home after an argument with his parents over their confiscations of his Xbox console, but the remains haven’t been positively identified.

Brandon’s father Steve Crisp told CBC News earlier today that the clothes police described on the corpse match what Brandon was wearing when he ran away.
"We’re definitely all moved by this ... (it’s) obviously a very tragic day. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family," Sgt. Dave Goodbrand of Barrie police said at the press conference.

OPP received a call at 10:18 a.m., reportedly from a group of deer hunters, alterting them of the discovery of remains near the Fourth Line in Oro-Medonte Township, northeast of Barrie.

Crisp’s parents and his school were notified immediately, Goodbrand said.

It was a heartbreaking end to a search that saw the community pull together in search parties, rewards offered for information about the teen’s whereabouts, almost daily heartfelt pleas from his parents and an agreement from Microsoft to relax privacy protocols to help police find out who Crisp communicated with while playing the online game "Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare."

Brandon’s parents said he was addicted to the game and it was affecting his school and social life. When he said he was going to run away on Thanksgiving Monday, his father helped him pack his knapsack and let him leave – assuming, he said, that Brandon would be back hours later or at worst the next day.

Students at Brandon’s school, St. Joseph’s High School in Barrie, were told the grim news at a special assembly this afternoon. Many were in tears as they left the school.

Goodbrand earlier in the day had said that Brandon’s parents were "obviously distraught" by the discovery of the body.

Police forensics specialists were working around the body much of the day. The local coroner was also at the scene. A funeral home car and two police officers on all-terrain vehicles removed the body from the bush just before 5 p.m.

The body has been taken to Toronto where a post mortem examination will take place, OPP Const. George Silvestri said. Provincial police have taken over the investigation.

Police had said that a woman saw Brandon on two occasions along a trail several kilometres from his home on the night he disappeared, and she noted the boy appeared to be having trouble with his bicycle.

His abandoned mountain bike was found in the area Oct. 20. The body was found at least a couple of kilometres from the bike.

After the disappearance, as the weather grew colder and snow began falling, police began a massive aerial, marine and ground search effort in the Shanty Bay area - about four kilometres from Brandon’s home - near where the body was found today.

Hundreds of volunteers also aided in the search, but no trace of the boy was found at the time.

Police had received more than 1,000 tips, but failed to find any meaningful clues to the boy’s whereabouts.
Two local media companies, including the Barrie Advance, where the boy’s mother works, had put up $20,000 in reward money for information to help locate the teen. Software giant Microsoft, which manufactures the Xbox, later increased that amount to $50,000.
Brandon’s disappearance prompted a huge outpouring of support from across the country.

A Facebook group with nearly 22,000 members was created, and within a half-hour of the news of the discovery of the body, there were already 100 messages of condolence.

Early this afternoon, on the east side of Oro-Medonte Line 4, an OPP helicopter made low, tight circles over a cornfield. It is an area believed to have been canvassed extensively during various search efforts.
Forensic officers set up a command post at a farmhouse, which backs onto the cornfield.
Police offices on four-wheelers were canvassing the surrounding woods and fields.

Thanks for updating grneyes - I'm absolutely heartsick to hear this news.
I'm so sorry Brandon felt the need to take his life over an xbox game. Personally I feel there was probably much more to this situation but I'm in no position to judge what these parents did. It most likely was their last straw - been there done that and its not over yet....

As much as I'd like to say this should send a message to all parents who have teens my words won't matter particularly from a teen perspective.

Speaking from my own experiences, "Your children (teens)" are going to do what they want to do on their own terms regardless of what you say or do to them. Granted many of you won't agree with what I'm saying but trust me when I say I speak from some very painful experiences. I still pray every day mine will make it to their twenties. We've shown them the way and I can only hope and pray they will follow by example and eventually become christians and law abiding citizens.

Whether its xbox games, drugs, alcohol, or the pressures from being a straight A student, either thru school, friends or from parents - your kids are your kids and they'll excel when they're ready, IMO, JMO.

RIP Brandon. And Godspeed to your parents, family and friends.

How VERY SAD!!!!

The one tiny comfort is that doctors say that it's a relatively painless way to pass away.

You get cold, but you just drift off to sleep.

If only he hadn't run off...

I think every kids goes through their "I'm running away" moment. All four of mine did it when they were teens and I said the same thing that Brandon's dad did, "There's the door." Either they would leave and come back a couple hours later or stomp off to their bedrooms.

It's bad enough to lose their son, but they will also carry the guilt forever. I hope they can survive this tragedy.

They now believe that Brandon's death was caused by falling from a tree as he had chest injuries that would be consistant with a fall.

Perhaps I was a bit harsh in my above post - but ITA with what you're saying grneyes. IF only I could take back some of the things I said to my teens but thats here nor there - tough love is exactly that, tough for everyone involved. Being a parent of two teens has been a real challange for me and my husband - mine haven't been half as bad as some of the stories I read but there are still those challanges that we as parents of teens face.
I've also learned there are no easy answers and we all do the best we can do in a given situation.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Brandon's family.

Yes, and all you can do is hope one day they realize why you do it.
