Elizabeth Bathory
There is a link to several books here:
http://www.trutv.com/library/crime/s...ountess_1.html
I have also found that a movie with Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy is being made about her. Does any one here has any more "film" info on her? Thanks in advance.

SICK SICK SICK.......I can't believe that she got away with her pervertedness, and wickedness for so dang long. At least her cousin had at least some sense to finally lock her up in her room, without sun light, and was allowed food under the door. It is weird that she had an ancestor, who rode with Vlad the Impaler (this is also on my Vlad the Impaler thread FYI ) and helped liberate Romania a few times. He was even Prince of Romania at one time. Imagine both Elizabeth, and Vlad around at the same time in history? They would probably wipe out all of Europe, if they ever got together. A disgusting thought......

In Hostel 2 they did a scene that if you know about her, you can kind of relate it to the story.
Sorry, haven't slept yet, so I'm a little blah right now.

Um .. There was also this lady .. Madame LaLaurie <http://www.trutv.com/library/crime/notorious_murders/women/women_killers2/1.html> She was just as brutal, but apparently didn't manage to murder as many as the Countess.
I think they did a 'haunted' documentary or something on her... anyone remember the name of it?

I've not heard about a film, although I have seen a good few documentaries on her. Checking out your links now.
I think with her it was a case of the power of the rich gone too far, combined with an unstable mental condition. Rich people or aristocracy used to believe their wealth made them more important than others, so she probably thought that as these girls were slaves, they were worthless compared to her. Come to think of it, these sentiments are apparant in todays society too, although (hopefully) not to this extent

The film Bathory, with Anna Friel, was filmed in English but dubbed Czech and Polish I think. The English language version has not yet been released, as far as I can tell. Which is a bit of a disappointment really as it looks very interesting. If anyone does find it in English, be sure to post it here!

All versions ( with Anna Friel) available are in Czech with English subtitles.
I have seen the movie ! A HUGE disapointment It is almost comedy with Bathory being portrayed as "Mother Theresa". When you see monks on roller skates or para gliding it is funny but not in a movie about Bathory.

...she was nobility, and those wretched girls were just dime a dozen peasants missed by nobody, including, perhaps especially not, their parents.
Does that sound rough? Remember these were times of 12, 14, 16 kids in a family, you got them out working in the mines or service not many other alternatives (you couldn't even send them to a convent, convents wanted doweries) as soon as possible. You never expected to see them again anyway.
If you think the rich can get away with it now, just think of what it would have been like then.
