Search Expands For Missing Granville Co. Woman
STEM, N.C. -- The search has expanded in the search for a Granville County mother who was reported missing nearly a week ago.
Kelly Currin Morris, 28, was last seen at her home last Wednesday. On Thursday, firefighters were called out to the burning house Morris shares with her husband and two children. A few hours later her abandoned car was found.
Almost a week later on Tuesday volunteers spent their day combing the woods near Morris' home. Family members insist Morris would never have left her two daughters voluntarily. Friend Brandy Carnell is among the 50 volunteers searching for Morris.
"Everybody is praying non-stop saying all the prayers they can say and we hope we find her safely,” Carnell said.
Carnell went to middle and high school with Morris and said she also doesn't think her friend would leave town.
"It's not something Kelly would do,” Carnell said. "She's just too family oriented. She loves her friends too much; she loves her family too much."
As volunteers searched, the nearby woods and roads didn’t give any answers. According to a family member, Morris’ husband Scott said his wife went looking for the family dog and never came back. Crews searched on horseback and on foot along the one-mile stretch between the charred Morris home and the undeveloped neighborhood where Kelly Morris’ car was found abandoned with the keys still in the ignition.
Most of the volunteers are from the Stem area, but Al Magnacci, who doesn't know Morris, came from Raleigh to help.
"It's just, something you feel you gotta do," he said.
Morris' stepmother is handing out posters with a recent picture of Kelly, and said she is grateful to the community for coming together and helping with the search.
Anyone with information in this case is asked to call the Granville County Sheriff's Office.

Granville Co. Sheriff Comments On Missing Woman Case
OXFORD, N.C. -- Granville County Sheriff David Smith says his agency, the State Bureau of Investigation, and a host of other volunteers and agencies have significantly expanded the search area for Kelly Currin Morris.
Morris, 28, was last seen at her home last Wednesday. On Thursday, September 4, firefighters were called out to the burning house Morris shares with her husband and two children. A few hours later her abandoned car was found.
Smith says as of Wednesday morning, the search area has been expanded to a 5 to 10 mile radius of where she was last seen. Smith says the search party is also retracing their steps, and checking the area for evidence they may have missed.
“We’ve gone back [and] double-searched [and] triple-searched,” Smith said. “We’ve had people on foot as well as those four wheelers,” Smith added saying six of the seven detectives at his office have been assigned to the case.
The Sheriff says his agency has contacted the State Highway Patrol office for air support in the search, but Wednesday’s rain has hampered those efforts. Morris’ father, according to Smith, is using his parasail to search for his daughter by air.
. . .
. . . Kellly Currin Morris
“We’re still holding on to a dim light that maybe she will be okay,” Smith said.
Despite a slew of rumors, the Sheriff described Morris as an outgoing young adult. He said she recently began working at a Nationwide Insurance office in Raleigh. She also held on to a part time position at her prior employer – Morning Glory Apartments in Butner, N.C.
When asked about possible foul play in the investigation, Smith said “that would be in the back of our mind.”
He expects the family to issue a statement concerning their loved one’s disappearance by the end of the day. Smith says Morris' 6-year-old child is staying with her husband. The other child is with Morris’ father.

Sherriff: Team Not Giving Up On Search For Missing Woman
GRANVILLE COUNTY, N.C. -- Granville County Sheriff David Smith says his team is not giving up on the search for 28-year-old Kelly Currin Morris.
The Sheriff says crews from his office and the State Bureau of Investigation will spend the night searching despite wet conditions in an area that has been expanded to 10-mile diameter.
Wanda Hollis, Morris' mother, says she is holding on to hope that her daughter is okay.
"Kelly would not leave her girls; she would not leave her girls," Hollis said. Morris has two daughters who are staying with family as authorities are searching for their mother.
. . .

When asked if she has an instinct if her daughter is not alive. Hollis responded 'yes,' calling it a gut feeling.
Hollis said, "She would have called her mama."
Hollis spent part of Wednesday afternoon collecting belongings from her daughter's charred home. On Thursday, firefighters were called out to the burning house Morris shares with her husband and two children. A few hours later her abandoned car was found.
"This is where I feel like I'm near her," Hollis said. She worries the story about her daughter wondering these woods to look for her dog is simply untrue.
"Her and that dog. that dog and her were just right. The dog would not run from her."
The rain made the search difficult on Wednesday, but the sheriff says will be a new team out on Thursday, and possibly new dogs looking for Morris. The sheriff says he's holding on to a dim light of hope, hoping that Morris will make it out okay.
David Smith says he has six of the department's seven investigators assigned to this case.

Arson declared in Kelly Morris search
STEM (WTVD) -- Kelly Currin Morris, the Granville County woman who vanished last week after her house caught fire is still missing Friday night but investigators have ruled the house fire from her house, arson.
The Granville County Sheriff's department has called in help to re-focus this search for Kelly. Eight days after she went missing they are, in effect, are starting over. About 120 people, professionals and volunteers, are searching for Kelly.
Danny Roberts, a family friend, offered, "It's been unusual because it's tugged at a lot of people's hearts."
Kelly went missing September 4th, the same day her house went up in flames. Her car was found locked a few blocks away with her purse, cell phone, and keys locked inside.
Kelly is married with two children.
Friends are convinced she would not run away.
Lynn Carden, a long time friend, stated, "To me she's a family oriented person. She wouldn't leave her two little girls."
Some of Kelly's friends are starting to wonder about her husband, Scott Morris, who has not been seen in the search effort.
One of them approached us with posters of Kelly's picture, as we knocked at the home of Scott's parents and stated, "He's probably the only one that knows anything."
Arson investigators were back at the Morris home today. But search organizers say weather has hindered the effort.
Kelly's friends remain hopeful, even as she has been gone for 8-days
Searchers and investigators hope that by the close of operations tomorrow, they will have eliminated a three mile radius around the residence stating that at this point they have no clues.

Search continues for missing Granville woman
Granville County sheriff's deputies are continuing a nearly round-the-clock search that started two weeks ago for a woman who was reported missing hours after her home in Stem burned to the ground.
The woman's husband is "a person of interest" in the case, Granville Sheriff David Smith said.
Investigators with the State Bureau of Investigation and U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms searched Kelly Currin Morris' burned home and determined that the fire was intentionally set, Smith said.
Meanwhile, sheriff's deputies and a host of volunteers have searched the southern end of Granville County since Morris, a 28-year-old married mother of two young daughters, was reported missing.
"We have conducted aerial searches, water searches, searches on horseback and with dogs," Smith said.
Authorities have also issued a statewide alert for the missing woman, while "a world of volunteers" have plastered fliers with the missing woman's photo throughout the county.
Her husband, William Scott Morris, 34, was the last person to see her alive, Smith said.
"She was allegedly going to find a pet dog that had got outside we think," he said. Smith said the pet Chihuahua returned but there has been no sign of Kelly Morris.
Sheriff's deputies found Kelly Morris' car less than a mile from her home in a new housing development, Smith said.
On Sept. 4, about 11:15 a.m., firefighters responded to a fire at the Morris home at 3220 Tump Wilkins Road. The couple's two daughters, ages 8 and 5, were in school when the fire broke out. William Morris told investigators he was at work.
Later that afternoon, Kelly Morris was reported missing after authorities and family members tried to reach her at Nationwide Insurance's home office in Raleigh, where she had started working less than a month ago. She worked a second job as site manager for the Morning Glory Apartments complex in Butner.
The couple did not have a history of domestic violence, nor were there any other signs of marital discord before Kelly Morris was reported missing, Smith said.
Anyone with information about Kelly Morris' whereabouts is urged to call the Granville County Sheriff's Office at (919) 693-3213.

TCR Exclusive: A Little More About Missing NC Mom Kelly Currin Morris
I interviewed an acquaintance of the Morris family about the September 3, 2008 disappearance of Kelly Currin Morris from her rural home in Stem, North Carolina. This friend wishes to remain anonymous, but she was willing to tell a little more about how friends and neighbors viewed Scott and Kelly and events since Kelly vanished, supposedly while out searching for her dog. For narrative ease, I'll refer to anonymous as BB.
"I've know Scott and Kelly for about 3 years," BB told me, "Their youngest daughter, Hailey, went to the same pre-school as my child. Linda Wilkins runs that pre-school, Hearts and Minds. It's the one across the street from [the Morris] home."
Asked to clarify the question of whether or not Scott has helped in the search for his wife, BB said that "Scott has not helped with Kelly's search whatsoever." She added, "He refuses to speak to the press as well." ...

BY WILLIAM F. WEST - DAILY DISPATCH WRITER
Missing woman case: Husband now ‘person of interest’
Kelly Morris disappeared from Stem Sept. 4, the day her house caught fire
STEM — The husband of vanished southern Granville County woman Kelly Currin Morris is considered a person of in*terest in the case, but the county’s top law enforcement official is not disclos*ing why.
“You know I’m not going to say that,” Sheriff David Smith said in a polite tone when asked on Monday.
“And I’m going to leave it at that.”
Scott Morris was not at his tow truck service when the Dispatch phoned there earlier in the day Monday. And Scott Morris did not respond to a message left with the business request*ing comment.
Smith said Scott Mor*ris officially became a person of interest on Friday, after the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) concluded arson was the cause of the Sept. 4 fire at the Morris resi*dence, which is located at 3220 Tump Wilkins Road southeast of Stem.
“He has been talked to several, several, several times,” Smith said of Scott Morris.
“We’ve been looking at some other people, too,” Smith said when asked about additional individuals possibly being consid*ered persons of interest.
Smith declined to name names.
Smith, when asked whether Scott Morris had any major criminal offense records in his background, replied, “Not that we have been able to find.”
And he has not been administered a polygraph examination, Smith said when asked.
Smith has been cautious about the release of information, citing the ongoing probe and the effort to find Kelly Morris, 28.
The story is generating much interest on Internet blogs, with some pointing out that Scott Morris is innocent until proven guilty and urging others not to make the same rush to judgment by many in what turned out to be the bogus Duke lacrosse rape case.
Kelly Morris’ car, a 2005 Honda Accord, was found not long after the fire and abandoned about a mile away from the residence.
Her cell phone, keys and purse were in the car, authorities have said.
She had just gotten a job with Nationwide Insurance in Raleigh.
Anyone with any in*formation is urged to call Granville County Crime Stoppers at (919) 693-3100, call the Sheriff’s Department at (919) 693-3213 or approach the nearest law enforcement officer.

STEM (WTVD) -- Kelly Currin Morris has been missing since September 4. Hundreds of volunteers have been searching for the 28-year-old.
The Morris family is pleading for help from hunters in the area. They hope special cameras could turn-up new clues.
"We know the hunters are in the woods now. We would ask if they could take a couple extra minutes either going in or coming out if there is an old home place that is different than last year if you just take a couple extra minutes to look," Morris' father Pat Currin said.

Arson in the home? Hmmmm I wonder what he was trying to cover up? I hope they find her safe but we all know the outcome in cases like this, particularly when the cell phone/keys and purse are found in the car or home.

Multiple interviews with Kelly's friends and family suggest the couple had a difficult marriage that often turned violent. According to the warrant, Scott had "punched holes in the wall during arguments and once threw a computer out of a window."

Yup I think the husband is involved - have they called him a person of interest or suspect yet?

Possible Evidence Found in Case of Missing North Carolina Mother Kelly Morris
With all the media attention on Casey Anthony and her missing 2-year-old daughter, Caylee Anthony, only a handful of media outlets have been providing updates on the case of Kelly Currin Morris, a 28-year-old mother of two who went missing from her Stem, N.C., home on Sept. 3, 2008.
Over the weekend, a group of search volunteers found a torn orange shirt and a yellow gas can, which may be directly related to Kelly's disappearance. Both items were reportedly found not far from Kelly's home, near Robertson creek on Brassfield Road in Granville County.
According to a source close to the investigation, the shirt, which had been purposefully cut up to remove a name above the breast pocket, is allegedly similar to shirts that Kelly's husband, 34-year-old William "Scott" Morris, wears while working at his towing business in Creedmoor. The gas can is also of interest, given the fact that an arson fire destroyed the Morris home after Kelly's disappearance.
Investigators have yet to officially comment on the validity of the finds; however they have taken both items into custody and they are currently being examined at the Granville County Sheriff's Department.
This latest news comes on the heels of last week's revelation that investigators had obtained two search warrants in connection with the case. Unfortunately, both of those warrants - one obtained on Sept. 12 and another on Sept. 16 - have been sealed under a judge's order.

Kelly Morris Disappearance Timeline
Sept 3, 2008 – According to William "Scott" Morris, his wife, Kelly Morris, goes outside to look for their dog at 9:30 p.m.
Sept 4, 2008 – At 11:19 a.m., a 911 caller reports a fire at the Morris home, located at 3220 Tump Wilkins Road, Stem, North Carolina. The house and much of its contents are destroyed; however, no one is home when the fire breaks out. Scott Morris is allegedly at his towing business in Creedmoor, and the couple's two young children, ages 8 and 5, are in school.
It is initially believed that Kelly is in Raleigh, where she works for Nationwide Insurance; however, investigators learn that she never showed up for work that morning.
Kelly's car, a burgundy 2005 Honda Accord, North Carolina license plate TXP-5917, is found that afternoon abandoned in an undeveloped subdivision, less than a mile from her home. Inside the locked car, investigators find Kelly's keys, purse, and cell phone.
When questioned by police, Scott Morris allegedly tells them that he took a shower and went to bed while Kelly was out looking for their dog on Sept 3.
Friends of Kelly tell investigators that Scott and Kelly Morris had been having marital problems and that they slept in separate rooms. Investigators are also informed that Scott Morris allegedly has a bad temper, and that, in the past, he has punched holes in walls and thrown a computer through a window.
Sept. 10, 2008 – Investigators obtain Scott Morris's cell phone records, which indicate he had placed a phone call to his parents on Sept. 3 at 9:45 p.m.
Sept 12, 2008 – The federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the state Bureau of Investigation conduct forensic tests at the scene of the Morris house fire that, according to police, reveal the fire was the work of an arsonist.

David Lohr posted this on another thread here at CL but thought it should also be posted here....

"Daddy's Little Girl," Kelly Currin Morris, Needs You!
"She was tender-hearted and a good momma. She was daddy's little girl." That's how Pat Currin described his missing 28-year-old daughter, Kelly Currin Morris. Pat attempted to share more details about their relationship - how they enjoyed riding horses and flying in his ultra-light plane - but he was unable to continue. The emotions overtook him, and streams of tears flowed down his face.
Pat is a good old country boy, a Southerner with a good heart who generally keeps his emotions in check, but when it comes to his daughter, when it comes to "daddy's little girl," even he can't hold back.
My job as a journalist is to use words to weave every thread of information into a story that you, the reader, can understand and on some level relate to. That job is much more difficult than it sounds, and whenever I work on a missing person case, it seems impossible.
How do you describe the love that a father has for his daughter and the pain that he has to endure without her?

IMO, I agree with sara. I do think that Kelly will be the next missing person case in the spotlight. However, I have been looking for updates on Kelly, and, with so many news outlets focused on Caylee, not many are focusing on Kelly, or for that matter, Jennifer. In any event, I hope that each one makes it home safely; however, I do realize that as more time passes, that that notion looks more and more like the impossible dream.
By the way, I'm new here. My name is Heather and I have been reading the board for a while and decided it was time to join. The board seems to have a great group of people and I'm excited to be a part of it.

Heather welcome to CL and it is nice to meet you. Right now the unfortunate part of everything is trying to find so many missing people with very little money. Tim Miller from Equusearch and it volunteers continue to work round the clock with Natalee Hollway,Kelly in the carolinas and Jennifer and Caylee in Florida. there is never enough time or money it seems but they are doing the best they can. If I could support myself and help them I would in a heartbeat. I would love to see everyone come home and rest in peace............sorry if this is too long imo nice to met you sara
