Find Missing Kids
Mikelle was last seen riding her bicycle near her family's residence in Mesa, Arizona on January 2, 1999. Mikelle and her younger sister thought they heard an ice cream truck's music in the distance and asked their mother for money. Mikelle and her sister waited for the truck near Toltec Street and El Moro Avenue at approximately 5:50 p.m. Her sister became cold and returned to the family's home for a coat. Their mother sent her back for Mikelle, but she had disappeared. Mikelle's bicycle and her two quarters were found near the street where she had been standing. The bicycle was not at the corner, but partially back towards the house.
Authorities searched the entire area near Mikelle's family's home, but no evidence pertaining to her whereabouts was found. Authorities were unable to confirm if an ice cream truck was in the area at the time of her disappearance, but all ice cream vendors in the area were cleared of involvement in Mikelle's case. Known sex offenders in the vicinity were also cleared of any connection to Mikelle. snip

Funeral for Mikelle Biggs
1/2/2003
On Friday, January 2nd, 2004, the Mesa, AZ family of Mikelle Biggs had a funeral service in her honor on her 5th annual date of disappearance. This ceremony was not meant to close the door on Mikelle's unsolved disappearance, but rather it was to bring a sense of closure to her family's life that deals with her being gone every single day. Mikelle, only 11 when she disappeared, was waiting for an ice cream truck just down the street from her house. That was the last that her family has seen of her. While thousands of volunteers spent time searching for Mikelle, little has come to light about what happened that day. While their daughter's case is still an active investigation at the Mesa Police Department, Mikelle's family believe they know what happened to her.
A local man serving 160 years for other non-related sex crimes is being accused of being involved in Mikelle's disappearance. The family has corresponded with this individual and believes that Mikelle is in her permanent resting place. "I will never give up on her," said Darien Biggs, Mikelle's father. "But I need to be able to devote some time and energy to my family and to life," he continued. Mikelle has two younger sisters and a younger brother at home. They all miss her very much but feel that having a funeral for Mikelle will help the family move forward in a positive healing direction.
The service included a small white and gold casket surrounded by purple flowers, Mikelle's favorite color. While the long funeral procession followed the casket to the cemetery in Mesa after the service, her family says that it will not be buried. The plot, Mikelle's family says, is for both of her parents. They will be including Mikelle's name on their own headstone but for now, the plot remains open since Mikelle is still missing. Her family, friends and loved ones portrayed the young, thin, blonde as outgoing, artistic, and talented at whatever she tried. They said it is always the way they will remember her.

found this from 2001,its not about the man whos doing 160 years tho
----------------------------------------------------------
Police say they are checking whether the mysterious disappearance of a Mesa girl might be linked
with a Montana man accused of butchering a boy and of feeding human flesh to neighbors.
Mikelle Biggs, 11, had been standing at a streetside curb a few doors from her home to await an ice
cream truck heard nearby when she vanished on Jan. 2, 1999.
Her sister had given up and had gone home. When Mikelle didn't show up, her bicycle was found in
the road along with the money her mother had given her for ice cream. Despite repeated and
extensive searches, Mikelle's whereabouts have remained unknown.
In Montana, Nathaniel Bar-Jonah, 43, of Great Falls was charged in December with kidnapping, killing
and butchering 10-year-old Zachary Ramsay, who vanished on Feb. 6, 1996. Montana authorities say
the boy's remains have never been found.
Bar-Jonah, who denied having killed the boy, also is accused of having fed stew, chili and burgers
containing human flesh to neighbors.
Police said they found bone fragments in Bar-Jonah's former garage that DNA tests show don't belong
to Ramsay but do belong to a child aged 8 to 13.
Bar-Jonah, who long has been in trouble for violence involving children, has been in jail since
December 1999, when he was arrested for impersonating a police officer in what police said was a
failed attempt to take a boy from school. He also is charged with having sexually assaulted three
boys, and he reportedly is charged with tampering with a witness and assault with a weapon for
allegedly having tried to hang a child.
Recently, about 20 Great Falls women received letters with a Phoenix postmark and signed with
Bar-Jonah's name speaking of wanting to eat the women.
"They were pretty shook up," Brent Light, the county attorney in Cascade County, Mont., told the
East Valley Tribune.
The letters bore the return address of Arizona state Sen. David Petersen, a Mesa Republican. They
were mailed on Jan. 18. In a report about the investigation, the Tribune said Petersen did not return
a call seeking comment.
Bar-Jonah was in jail at the time the letters were mailed. He apparently he was free when Biggs
vanished.
"Was he in Arizona?" Mesa police detective Jose Martinez asked Wednesday. "Was he accounted for
on that date?"
Martinez said the FBI continues to help with the Biggs investigation.
Meanwhile, Royal Canadian Mounted Police were checking their missing children's records to see
whether any cases might have happened during times Bar-Jonah was in Alberta or Saskatchewan.
Authorities said they could place him crossing the border several times and that he apparently was in
those two cities during the mid-1990s.
Bar-Jonah's history of violence began in 1975, when he pleaded guilty to nearly choking an 8-year-old
boy to death in Webster, Mass. He received probation. Two years later, he pleaded guilty to
kidnapping and trying to kill two Shrewsbury, Mass., boys he abducted at a movie theater parking lot.
He spent nearly two years in prison before being transferred to a state mental hospital, where he
stayed for 11 years. Shortly after his release, he was arrested in Oxford, Mass., for assaulting a boy
sitting in a car outside a post office.
Under a plea agreement, Bar-Jonah received a suspended jail sentence in that case on condition he
move to Montana with his mother.
In late January, Mary Patrone, a Connecticut probation officer, told The Hartford Courant that
Bar-Jonah had abducted and assaulted her 26 years ago, when as a 9-year-old she was walking
home from a friend's home. She said she recognized Bar-Jonah from a recent newspaper photograph.
Connecticut state police were investigating whether the bone fragments found in the Bar-Jonah
garage might be linked with the disappearance of 7-year-old Janice Pockett in Tolland 27 years ago.
The alleged attack on Patrone occurred 10 months before and less than 20 miles away from where
Pockett disappeared.

more about the case i found from afew years ago
-------------------------------------------
12 News discovers new information in the search for a missing Mesa girl. Mikelle Biggs was 11-years old when she vanished from her Mesa neighborhood. Almost 2-years later police believe they may have the man responsible behind bars.
Dee Blalock is behind bars now, but when Mikelle disappeared his house was just 2 blocks away from where she was last seen alive. Police showed up at Blalock's doorstep that very same night and they say he is still a very strong suspect in the little girl's disappearance.
Dee Blalock is headed to prison for 187 and a half years. He was convicted of brutally raping and beating his former neighbor Susan Quinnett. And now police are admitting this guy was and is a prime suspect in the disappearance of Mikelle Biggs. Biggs disappeared in January 1999. Her bike left on the sidewalk. That very night - police knocked on Blalock's door.
Blalock has a long history of sexually abusing kids and women. According to court records, more than 20 years ago he forced a young boy to perform oral sex on him. In 1980 he sexually assaulted a 15-year-old girl and went to prison in California. In 1985 he assaulted a 13-year-old girl and went to prison in Texas. In 1989 he sexually assaulted a woman in Arizona and went to prison here. He was released in 1995 and moved into Mesa Mikelle Biggs disappeared in January 1999. Then in 1999 Blalock raped Susan Quinnett an offense for which he will not again walk out of prison.
Police say they feel so strongly about Blalock in the Biggs case they will continue interviewing him in prison.

Mikelle Biggs: Still Missing
The trail to the person who kidnapped 11-year-old Mikelle Biggs went cold just over ten years ago today.
Detectives Domenick Kaufmen and Jerry Gissel who have both been
diligently working on the case for many years are now at a complete
stand-still until forensic technology advances or someone comes forward
with information leading to her kidnapper.
“Hopefully, the
individual who did this will realize the nightmare that they’re putting
this family through,” Gissel said. “I know this person has got to be
aching to get this information out. I know, like I’m sure he knows,
that he needs to clear up this before he leaves this life because it’s
not going to be very good for him afterwards.”
When Mikelle
Biggs, a sixth grader at the time, disapeared without a trace a search
party was formed in her hometown of Mesa, Arizona.
The case
drew national attention and many local resources. unfortunately despite
the exausting efforts of Mesa pilice units who followed more than
10,000 leads, rappeled down mine shafts in search of her, hypnotized
witnesses, consulted with the FBI, who conducted polygraph and voice
stress tests and developed a profile of the perpetrator.
To
this day detictives have no solid leads other than a small list of
names who they say are suspects in the case. Detectives are waiting for
advances in forensic technology or an eye witness to come forward with
more information.
Gissel said he doesn’t want to wait for the technology.
“I
want this person to come forward and get this thing off their chest,”
he said, “and allow this nightmare to stop for the Biggs family.”
