Urgent prayers needed
I wasn't in hiding or avoiding the boards. So many things have happened in the last two weeks...and I've been staying at my mom's house with Katey...
Last Wednesday night, my grandfather, John Bonauito, had a MASSIVE HEART ATACK with renal failure.
He's 95 years old, and after 4 days in the hospital, he was moved back to the nursing home, since he has a DNR, and they can't possibly do anything for him other than make him comfortable anyway. At his age, he isn't a candidate for a pace maker, and he made his wishes clear in his DNR.
NO HEROIC MEASURES.
So that means that all they can do for him is give him pain meds and oxygen.
At this point, we all realize that the end is VERY NEAR, so please join his family and friends to pray for a painless and peaceful death when the time comes.
He's raised 3 generations of girls, as the central male in our lives, when divorces happened or fathers walked out, so he's much more than Grandpa...
It's just a matter of when now...

Grandpa finally passed today at about 10:30 am.
He was one in a million, and it was an honor and privilege to be his grand-daughter. He was one of the most intelligent people I've met in my entire life, even though he never went beyond the 12th grade. I learned more from him than I ever learned from any of my teachers.
The world has lost a truly special person today, and I really pity those who never met him.
He was surrounded with the people who cared for him the last 4 years since he had the stroke. They sat by his bed-side and prayed over him, and tucked a Rosary into his hands-as he's Catholic-and they opened the window to his room, and a moment later, he passed on...like he knew the window had to be open for his Spirit to fly free to Heaven...
He's home now, with Grandma Lenore, and we'll miss them both fiercely, but wouldn't wish them back here in the condition in which they left this life.
Thank you all for your prayers and kindness.
Hugs-
Donna, Katey, and family
RIP, Grandpa. Give our love to Grandma...
We miss you both so much...

FD-
Thanks so much. I know the song VERY WELL, even though I can't listen to it right now...it's just too soon-and too raw. It seems that no matter how well prepared you are, and how well you know that the end is near, it still hits you like a punch in the face when a loved one passes away. We've had a week since his heart attack, and it STILL HURTS LIKE HELL!!!
In fact I burned a couple of discs to play at the wake, and that song is on it, along with Faith of The Heart and Daddy's Hands, and several of Grandpa's favorites and songs that remind us of him.
I did save the link to my favorites, though, and will always think of Grandpa when I hear the song.
Thank you, my friend!

Hugs and prayers, Samantha. I know how hard it is to lose parents and grandparents no matter what age they are. My Mom was 86 and my paternal Grandpa was 92 and paternal Grandma was 99. I still miss them. You and your family are in my prayers.

Sorry to hear the news Samantha and of course, he is in our prayers.
I have this thought that helps me when someone dies. When my dad died I was pregnant (the last pregnancy miscarried at 20 weeks), and in a complete state.
But someone pointed out its a bit like dad has moved to Australia. I would probably not see him in this lifetime. However, I would definitely see him again someday.
That made me feel better!
Big hugs

Thanks again, everyone...
Today was a long day-making the wake and funeral arrangements and all.
I crashed right after dinner and just woke up at about 11:30.
I hope to be on more tomorrow...
Hugs-
Donna

Thanks so much, Seashell.
You know, my mom never really understood my need to hang out on-line to talk with total strangers, sharing our triumphs and tragedies and our most vulnerable moments...until I showed her this thread and a few others I have out there in cyber-space asking for people to join us in prayer about Grandpa's then-impending death.
She was amazed-and IMPRESSED!!! Total strangers sharing our grief and reaching out to comfort us...and praying Grandpa into Heaven.
I think she finally gets it!!!
And again-I thank EVERYONE!
Hugs-
Donna, Katey and family

Last night, we had the wake, and it was a smallish group. There aren't many of our family left in our area, but many of our old neighbors came by, and people Mom worked with-who were like a second family to me as I was growing up.
It was nice though.
We set up two display boards with pictures and some of Grandpa's achievements, and a few framed pictures were set out.
We ended up sitting in a cluster, telling stories about Grandpa, and the funny things he used to do. We all ended up laughing and hugging...
Some people might not consider it a very dignified wake, but it's usually the way it ends up with our family-and it works!
Later this morning, we have his Mass, and burial, then a luncheon.
So far we're doing okay...
Thanks so much for all the prayers and support. It means the world to us!

oh Samantha laughing is part of grieving and it is great your family can be together and great you can remember the stories. I have found that when my family loses someone everytime we sit and tell stories it is like that person is with us in our minds and our hearts. Good to do that. Especially on holidays. Hang in there Samantha lots of prayers coming your way.
