Breakdown of family life & lack of discipline in Britain today

Hello Phoenix,

It has become apparent in hindsight of course, that the crime rate has escalated in Britain, and it goes back to when school punishment (THE BELT) was banned. This used to be a preventative measure to keep children in line at school. It worked very well, myself having been on the receiving end of it One mother took great exception to her son being punished in this fashion, and took it to such extreme, that the belt was banned permanently.

Little did they know what they would reap at their leisure. Children were no longer afraid of misbehaving in school, eventully losing all respect for their teachers, after all, there was no deterrent!! Through time a number of children would take 'misbehaving' to extremes, again, resulting in the only option schools could take. Expulsion. So these kids roamed the streets, getting into petty crime, more serious crimes as they got older. This culminated in children losing respect for parents also, when social departments got in on the act, and a new law was made banning parents from physically chastising their children, giving children the power to report parents. Parents here are now afraid to discipline their children. I know that some people take that to extreme also, which becomes abuse, but most law-abiding parents do NOT harm their children.

This has resulted in children having no fear of adults, police, no authority!!!!
Now with gangs of teenagers roaming around making everyone's live's a misery, and the now prevalent knife culture is upon us. There is discussion of what to do about it, but what are the answers?? However many are in the news, i'm happy to say that most parents & children are law-abiding, and we're not all neglecting our children, etc etc, it is a minority, but the culture is growing, and something has to be done.

Very good article above from the Telegraph.

I also think kids are growing up to fast. They are not having a normal childhood.
They are bombarded with electronic devices, messaging, mobiles....

Thank you vety much for your answer Bluefox. Now something is making sense, this information was needed because now i really know that causality works in this case too.I would say to authorities that we should go back to belt immediately, why change good metod in the first place? This was inmporting info what could happend if one good rule goes unfuntioned.I sincerelly hope that you somehow manage to either cope this or invent new good metod or go back in the old metod, something must be done and fast, otherwise its gone get much worse.

You're right Debby, kids spend too much time on their own with these electronic gadgets and what have you!

You're welcome Phoenix, but the saying 'never go back to the past, move forward' comes to mind. This is the 21st Century, we cannot stop progress, we cannot stop technology, it's in our basic make-up to explore, go on adventures, invent new things, that's the gift of free-will we were given. So what we need are 21st Century ideas I think technology is moving so fast, that the people are being left behind.

Women can go out to work now, they can have careers, but we can't simply blame that, it's not that mum's out working, it's the quality of parentage when they're home, and what they instil in their children to prepare for adult life in a responsible way i.e. studying, their future etc Plenty mums don't work, but they may be the type who self indulge and an evening spent in the pub is more important than bothering what the kids are up to. Is this the price of living in a democracy? Heaven forbid we all live in a police state, or with a despot like Mugabe! There's no easy answer, look at the mistakes Social workers make, the wrong kids are left to die, others are hounded wrongfully, how do we sort it all out. There's the stigma of not wanting to get involved, or you may get hurt if you do! How do we get past those hurdles?

Crime has definitley escalated over here in the UK especially knife crimes. A lot of it involving teens. A few weeks ago it was on the news about a woman who had approached two teen boys to ask them to not smoke on the train platform- their reply was to shove her on the tracks !!!
