Former choir director arrested for RAPE

Norman McMillan, 25, has been arrested on several charges including statutory rape. McMillan is the former gospel choir director at McCaskey High School in Lancaster. Police say they've been investigating McMillan since last month. According to investigators, he had a relationship with a girl two years ago, when she was just 15.

This guy was having sex with the student DURING school hours at times. This is just amazing to me. I guess this guy will be singing in the tenor section of the choir when the guys get a hold of him in prison.

I noticed, of the 2 women charged, one got 3 months jail time, the other got 4 months--which is still a whole lot more time than numerous other female teachers got. BUT, for the men, the least jail time (for those listed) was 2 YEARS, and one said the sentencing would be 3 to 6 years.

I still don't get why women are not held to the same standard as men. They get caught, they get charged the same, yet sentencing is so much more lenient, to the extent of getting off with a slap on the wrist. I think all have lost their teaching licenses, but did they all have to register as sex offenders?

The teacher in Florida got 30 months for child porn on his computer, but the female teachers having sex w/their students got 3 and 4 months?

Will be interesting to see what a local teacher gets for his crime. He is charged with 7 counts of showing porn sites to middle school boys, @ the school.

I agree, I do not understand how some people get off with light sentences and others do not. It does seem that women get off much easier though.

that is crazy, it really shouldnt matter if your a man or a women its wrong just the same. they need to come out with some better laws when dealing with those types of cases.

I noticed that, in several cases (not the ones listed on the site--@ least that I read) the woman teacher proclaims to not know it is against the law to date a student @ the school where you teach. The amazing thing is, several of the boys were 14 or 15---get a freaking clue!!! Statutory rape is statutory rape whether the older person is a woman or a man. AND, what 23+ person would WANT to date even a 17 year old? What in the world would they have in common? Besides the obvious. But, what would a 23+ woman see in a 15 y/o? It's just....I don't know how to describe it. Other than sick and demented.

I tho't about every profession had an ethics class that was mandatory to attend and pass? That's where I learned as a nurse, one is not to have a sexual relationship in the hospital w/one's patients. And, to not accept gratuities from any patients, other than maybe candy, cookies. And that I can't diagnose or prescribe. Surely, surely, there is something in the curriculum for teachers that would address proper decorum, laws about relationships w/students, etc.

I remember a situation back in high school, where a girl and a teacher had a thing for each other. Shocking, but @ least the man had the sense (and self-preservation for his career) to not act on it until after she had graduated from high school. THAT is when I learned a bit about the law regarding teachers and students.
