ANDERSON COUNTY — Nathan Dickson remains in jail where he has been since April 2008 on four charges of murder with no clear timeline yet on when his case will make it to court.
Dickson was arrested April 26 in connection with the deaths of his father, Andy Dickson, his brother, Taylor, his stepmother, Maritza Dickson and his stepsister, Jilian Salazar. All four were shot to death in their Easley home just hours before Dickson was arrested.
Kurt Tavernier, one of Dickson’s defense attorneys, said Monday that he and 10th Circuit Assistant Public Defender Andy Potter are preparing for what they anticipate will be a death- penalty trial.
“It is my understanding that the solicitor is going to serve us with the death-penalty notice,” Tavernier said. “But I do not know what her timing is.”
Tenth Circuit Solicitor spokeswoman Rosemary Littleton confirmed that the solicitor, Chrissy Adams, has not served a death-penalty notice in the case. Jones said she did not know whether Adams had made a final decision regarding the matter.
Dickson is in custody at the Anderson County Detention Center without bond. Anderson County sheriff’s deputies arrested Dickson as he, being 19 years old at the time, finished an afternoon of riding four-wheelers with a friend in Belton.
Tavernier said he does not know when Dickson’s case will make it to court. He said he knows the solicitor’s office is backed up by at least 10 homicide cases currently waiting to go to court before Dickson’s case.
One of those cases is a death penalty case for Raymondeze Rivera, who has been convicted of killing Asha Wiley and is now awaiting trial in the death of Kwana Burns. Burns and Wiley, two Anderson mothers, were found strangled to death in their homes in December 2006.
