Suicide or Murder? (cont'd)
My 19 year old son, Joshua, was found hanging in the chain of the swing set in Amsler Park/McGregor, Tx on February 16, 2006. I wanted to die with Joshua, but when I looked at Michael, a ping-pong game began in my heart~Die or Live, Die or Live...........................
Three days later, a horrifying thought hit me~THEY FOUND HIM ALONE IN THE PARK IN THE DARK!!!!!!!
We had the funeral on Monday. The police dept. had been paid for a funeral escort, but didn't show up, so we began the procession maneuvering through traffic, almost colliding with a patrol car at an intersection.
This story is convoluted and very long.

First of all I want to say I am sorry for your loss. My god bless you, your son and your family.
No one wants to believe that their son could commit suicide. The fact is it happens all the time. I suspect that your son commited suicide and wasn't murdered.

One doesn't even have to finish the story, to see that's it obviously a very bungled case, by what seems a bunch of idiotic amateur policemen at the very least, and at worst, corrupt, and yes, in the big silence a cover-up. It's such a pity that the honest ones amongst them, are themselves made corrupt by their silence.
To make a statement to a newspaper before extensive investigation, or talking to his immediate family, especially his mother, is beyond belief, even it were a suicide.
Am i to understand that Joshua's g/f WAS under-age? Her family appear to be pretty volatile and contrary in their actions, motive there also.
I hate to say it, but it looks like Joshua may have been already dead, BEFORE the chains were put on him My heart goes out to you, in your quest for justice.
If Joshua had hanged himself with the chain, his own weight may have taken him down to his knees, but thus i'm sure there would have been more damage to the neck, and signs of strangulation. I'm no forensic expert, but common sense alone tells you this. When someone is so depressed that they have sudden suicidal thoughts, they don't eat a heavy meal first, as was found with the autopsy.

My heart is breaking so badly about Joshua's death. And I'm angry about the way the case was handled by LE.
Just as in the case of my little brother (age 10; who was found "hanging" in Jacksonville, Fla. in 1968); I believe that Bluefox is right. In that there should have been more damage to Joshua's neck and signs of strangulation. And I also believe (just as in my little brother's case) that Joshua was possibly already dead (or at least unconscious) before someone wrapped the chain around his neck.
One has to look at all of the suspicious things about a death that is being labeled a "suicide" or "accident". Just as I've said many times about my little brother's "asphyxiation; by hanging" ruling; if there is just one unanswered question; just one thing that doesn't make sense; just one thing that is suspicious (and in Joshua's case there are MANY suspicious things) then that death IS a suspicious death.
Curious51; don't ever give up trying to get the answers; the truth about who killed Joshua. Don't let anyone discourage you. Please keep posting about Joshua's case. There are people here who are standing with you and your family. And we are standing with Joshua and his right to justice.

I'm so sorry about your loss also hissister, i have to say, i haven't as yet read up on the thread about Glen, but i will do so.
Curious51, there surely has to be a way of bearing down on the local LE, i.e. official complaints procedure? Have you spoken with a lawyer? Can you bring any sort of case against LE over there. Sorry if i'm wrong, i'm very ignorant when it comes to US law. Have the F.B.I any involvement in this, or can you approach them?
How about a reward for information? Private Investigator to find out what you can about his GF's family? I'm at a loss for suggestions atm. I do hope you will continue to post updates. TC

Thank you Bluefox. The thread for Glen is no longer here at crimelibrary; I had thought that crimelibrary was going to be closing down.
I don't want curious51 to have any thoughts that I was trying to draw attention away from Joshua's case and onto Glen's. I only mentioned Glen's case to let it be known that there are cases in which it appears to be a "suicide" or "accident"; and if one doesn't closely look at all the facts and all the suspicious things; they can end up believing that the death was a suicide or some type of accident.
It has bothered my family for 40 years that all the suspicious things about Glen's death were ignored by LE and the M.E. But I can more understand how that could happen so long ago.
Not so with Joshua's case. With all of the advances in forensics; they know more now about hanging deaths. So for all the suspicous things in Joshua's case to have been ignored by LE and the M.E. really makes me mad. And I can't help but be suspicous of the way everything has been ignored by those in LE and the M.E. in Joshua's case; esp. after having read about the case.

Suicide or Murder in McGregor, Tx?
BlueFox:
Excuse my ignorance, what is LE?
I do agree with your belief that he was already dead when the chain was wrapped, however, I wasn't "taken" to the park (one block away) by police to positively ID my son. The police allowed his 18 year old brother, Michael, to do this, even though he was in shock and being tended to by EMS!
I viewed the crime scene photos with a magnifying glass. I got new details. The left hand was clinched, while the other was not. The left hand had fingertip bruising, the ME's office told me this was fingerprint residue. However, I called the funeral director, and he told me he attempted to remove the "bruises" with Comet; it didn't come off!
Per the autopsy report, Joshua wrapped the chain from the right to the left. Viewing these photos, I noticed 3 marks on the right side of his neck vs 1 mark on the left. My conclusion: The chain was moved on the right side, while staying in place on the left.
Tardieu spots on the anterior surfaces of the thighs????????????
I can't afford to hire a private attorney, nor a private investigator. I'm doing this all on my own.
I sent a letter of complaint to Internal Affairs to:
McGregor PD
City Manager Dennis McDuffie
District Attorney
McLennan County Sheriff
Texas Rangers
Ten days later, a retired Texas Ranger is Interim Chief in McGregor!
McGregor's mayor, Mr. Jimmy Hering, told me that a wants/warrants check is done in case there's a warrant, it can be dismissed! Who cares, he's dead!
I have discussed the reason for his death, according to the Medical Examiner: "Red-purple parenchyma with pulmonary edema".
I do know this is slowly killing me.........I miss my practical joker son each and every day!!!!!!

I'm sorry; LE is the initials for law enforcement. After I finally learned that from posting about Glen; I've never realized that others might not know what LE stands for either.
My God; they took Michael to the park to identify Joshua; even though Michael was in shock and being tended to by EMS?
Have they ever mentioned to you or anyone if your family how long Joshua had been "hanging" before being found? Is there an approximate time of death given?
I do believe that Joshua was dead before the chain was wrapped around his neck. So if the bruising on his left fingertip was not from lividity (maybe lividity was beginning to happen when his body was found); could the bruising have been from some kind of struggle?
I don't know very much about lividity; so I don't even know if it would begin in only one part of the body or only on one side; depending on circumstances.
Have they given any "reasons" for the tardieu spots on the anterior surfaces of Joshua's thighs?
I put in a search for tardieu spots and found this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ecchymosis
Basically; tardieu spots are bruising from what this says. Why would there be bruises on the frontal part of Joshua's thighs?
Could it be from Joshua being dragged to the swing set? Just wondering.
I am so sorry that Joshua has been taken away from his family. I know how much you miss him and can't stop thinking about him.

I am sorry about your son, Joshua. I know it's have to loss someone. I can only say that in order to ease the pain and ache we encounter sometimes it is better to let it go and accept the fact that we loss someone. Either Joshua committed suicide or murdered, yes we always want to have justice and clearer picture of what happen but sometimes it will be more painful of what we will find out in the end.

I have to say I disagree with karyllemia. Of course it is hard to lose someone we love; but it's quite different to lose someone to violent crime. To have a child or a sibling murdered and for that crime to not be investigated is a whole other anguish and pain. It cannot be let go. It should not be let go.
It may hurt to know the details of what happened to our loved one; but the pain of not knowing is so much worse.
I believe our loved ones deserve for us to fight for justice for them. Not to mention that those in LE and M.E. offices who have chosen to ignore the suspicious things about the death should not be let off the hook so easily. The families should raise as much uproar as possible and get as much exposure to the case as possible.
How many deaths have been ruled "suicide" or "accidental" that weren't "suicides" or "accidents"? We'll never know; and one of the reasons is that the families have let it go. They've either let it go because they felt they had nowhere to turn to for help. Or felt as you do, karyllemia, that it is better not to know the truth than to know the truth. And our loved ones whose deaths were wrongly labeled "suicide" or "accidental" deserve much, much better than that.

I want to add here that it is the duty of LE to fully investigate a case. And it is the duty of a M.E. to look carefully at the bodies of victims that come before them.
These people are public servants; it is their duty to do their jobs correctly and with honestly and integrity.
When they fail to do their jobs correctly; when they show no honesty and integrity; should they be allowed to get away with that?
I believe not.
I do not understand how anyone who has gone into the field of crime investigation (or anyone who is even interested in it) can look at the suspicous things about a case and ignore all of those suspicous things. Why have they even bothered going into the field if they aren't going to look honestly at the facts before them and investigate the cases to the best of their ability? Esp. nowadays with all the advances in forensics, etc.
They're supposed to be fighting crimes (murders included); not letting people get away with murder (literally).
