This week in another unrelated court case Dr. Reid Meloy admitted his testimony against Timothy Masters was not supported by the evidence. Meloy was being cross examined by defense attorneys in another murder case where he had been hired as an expert witness by the prosecution. To date, Timothy Masters who was freed after serving 9 years for murdering Peggy Hettrick has received no compensation for his wrongful conviction. Meloy has refused to speak to the press when confronted and only spoke in this instance because he was under oath in a court of law.
Masters' conviction was largely based on the testimony of Dr. Meloy who had never even interviewed Mr. Masters. Rather than acting as a neutral expert witness it has come to light that Meloy himself to an active interest in convicting Tim Masters. There was no physical evidence linking Masters to the crime. Masters was released after DNA testing of Ms. Hettrick's clothing suggested others.
Dr. Katherine Ramsland used the Master's conviction as one of the center pieces on criminal psychology found on this website. Despite the change in events it remains along with Tim Master's photo. So much for professional ethics among pop psychologists.
From the Fort Collins Colorado newspaper:
Tim Masters update: Meloy says his testimony was "not supported by evidence"
Dr. Reid Meloy, the expert witness whose opinion was a significant factor in the conviction of Timothy Masters nine years ago, admitted this week that the testimony he gave during the 1999 Larimer County trial was "not supported by the evidence."

But then defense attorneys asked Meloy if he had ever been wrong—and if a jury had ever made a decision based on his wrong testimony.
According to The Oklahoman, Meloy replied, "There have been incidences where juries relied on my opinion and in the aftermath, those were not supported by evidence."
Meloy has been incredibly evasive as the Masters case increasingly garnered attention from media and various arms of the state judicial system. New DNA evidence set Masters free earlier this year. But Meloy, until now, had not commented on the case and his part in convicting Masters.
Meloy's testimony played a huge role in convicting Masters of the 1987 stabbing and sexually mutilation of Peggy Hettrick.
