Michael Vick Sentenced to 23 months

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20071210/...TjWoMHzLKs0NUE

Meaning he'll be home for Thanksgiving 2009. He could have received 60 months (5 years.) I'm not sure what the Feds give off for good time but I think he has to do 80% of his sentence.

So do I. I get some comfort in knowing that his NFL career is most likely O-V-E-R. There may be more charges coming out of VA and this may not be the end of it all.

I hope that Vick's time spent in prison will be a painful time for him. I hope he gets it doggy style, as is his just punishment. I hope it is terribly painful for him. And I hope that no one hears his screams of pain. And in my opinion, this does not come close to justice for the poor dogs that had to die in such cruel ways.

According to what the Falcons' owner Arthur Blank stated tonight on ESPN, he will not be returning to their team. Vick will not be out of prison until sometime in 2009 and after such an absence unlikely that any NFL team would want or need him.

You are correct, he does face charges in Virginia. I understand the trial will commence in 2008.

Do you know if the Falcons were successful in getting back all or part of his signing bonus? The new NFL commissioner seems to be a "no nonsense" kind of guy. Even if some desperate team wanted to hire him, I believe his suspension will be permanent.

Vick has not yet repaid the $20 million signing bonus. As to his return to the NFL, it would seem unlikely. He is going to be out for three seasons by the time of his release from prison in June 2009. Training camp for the NFL begins in July, and one of the main problems may be his own physical condition when he exits prison. Another factor is that he will be on probation for three years after release.

I too wish he would have gotten the whole time he could have gotten.
That was his Federal charges and that means Federal time correct? Isn't it the case when doing Federal time now there is no Parole?
So will he do every day of that 23 months?
I hope so.

I hope the state gives him a good amount and makes him serve it in State prison locked in a small cage worried about his safety and life just like he done to those dogs.

That said I never hear anything said about the case of rapper DMX His home was raided in Arizona in I think August. They found buried dogs extremely thin dogs etc on his property. Why no talk of that case? Not to mention let me remind people that this is NOT DMX's first bought of charges that involve Pit Bulls. His home in NJ was also raided and also charges there were I thought brought.

I see people fight to get strict laws and more time for these charges Yet the judges and prosecutors always let them slide by with barely a slap. is it any wonder they repeat or that others come along and do the same?

Personally I am sick of it and wish someone would take a stand and make a statement to these jerks(I am being nice) so they may at least have the thought in mind that this is in fact a crime and they can in fact get real time. Instead they know they can take a few dollars off their last winnings or breeding and use it to pay a few fines and get back to business as usual.

Sorry for my rant this is a cause close to my heart.

Federal time is at least 85% of the sentence, so 23 months would equal 19.5 months less the month he already served, so he could be out in June or July 2009.

Most likely Vick will have a pretty easy time of it, like Mike Tyson did. He's a big time athlete macho man and his rep will impress the guys he's doing time with. Probably a number of his new "teammates" have been involved in dog fighting and worse. He'll probably also be able to work in the gym or whatever is equivalent in the fed system.

Personally I hope Virginia runs another couple of years "wild" (consecutive) with his current federal sentence and that he leaves federal custody for the state bighouse.

I sure hope they stick to their guns and insist at least a portion of it is repaid. I agree that his return to football is highly unlikely.
