TG, hope you have a wonderful day. My pies are made so that's half the battle for me. Nothing else can be doen early. Oven is being a pain in the butt - shuts off and on when ever it feels like it. Second group of pies took 2 hours because the oven decided to be tempermental again.

Happy Thanksgiving to all. I cooked my turkey in an oven bag for the first time this year and I will be smart enough next time not to believe what the instructions say. I have a 15 lb turkey and it says cooking time is 2 to 2 1/2 hrs. I didn't think that sounded quite right, but I thought the instruction writer knew more about it than I so . . .
My mashed potatoes, veggies, salad, rolls are done and we're still still waiting on the damned turkey. Serves me right!

Oh, DD, I'm so sorry! Mine's in the oven now, and its cooking way faster than it should. Not sure which is the better trade. Your guests waiting, mine not due for an hour getting served overcooked turkey.
As an aside, its nice that the Peterson clan can vicariously share Thanksgiving with DRISP, MSNBC has a SQ marathon on now. I wonder if they're watching.
Happy Thanksgiving!

Not on your life.....lol I dont' do crowds well at all. Did them with my daughter a few years ago and it was pure hell!! Not that many bargains and crowds that would suffocate anyone. We didn't get anything that great either. Will hit one store this afternoon - only because I have to pick up some meds.

How did your "turkey in a bag" turn out? I was tempted to buy one this year but I'm one of those people who sticks with the "tride and true" so I chose to pass it by. Did your turkey brown in the bag too or did you have to remove the bag for that? I've never cooked anything in a bag but I've heard cooking time is shortened when cooking in a bag.

The turkey turned out very good -- once it finished baking. It browned in the bag and cooking time was actually reduced by about 1 1/2 to 2 hrs. I will probably do it again next year but will allow more time in the oven than the directions say. I had to warm everything in the microwave, but next year I'll be smarter about the timing.

Glad to hear everything turned out OK. Thank goodness for microwaves!!! Forgot to ask.....how about gravy? Was there enough drippings in the bag for gravy? I have to have a nice rich, brown gravy for those mashed potatoes, don'tcha know!

Yep -- plenty of drippings. Good gravy is mandatory around here also.

Thanks!! Think I'll give one a try. No more "turkey in the bag" questions, I promise!
