Put your money where your mouth is: World Vision

Children, especially teens nowadays as they grow older, seem to have everything they need. The iPod, the Xgames, the designer clothes, the digital camera and the cellphone. Ideas for gifts for the upcoming holidays are almost insurmountable.

Here are a few that can be easy on the budget, fun, and give teens some sense of responsibility outside their own world:

Buy a family or a community what they need. A goat, a few hens and a rooster, seed for the farm, medicine for the community health center, educational material where it is truly needed.

Another site that is rather fun and can (at least for me) help increase your vocabulary. From the United Nations and with the assistance of it's advertisers:

www.freerice.com

"For each word you get right, we donate 10 grains of rice to the United Nations World Food Program." Try to get to level 50!

Trust me it's addictive, if you don't want to spend the next hour or so on the computer, don't click on the link (I haven't detected any pop-ups).

Let's assist with making the world a better place.

hi there, i so agree the money we spend on stuff we dont need is unreall. i however prefer to give within my own community as it would shock you that we live in "developed countries" and yet the rates of poverty, and homelessnes are insanely high. (im in canada and some of the big cities are crazy for families living in the subway tunnels and public parks) i believe in giving to the foodbank, i think its great to go and do a monthly shop, and buy the good stuff, not the generic kraft dinner that people allways give, but the treats that kids allways want in there lunches and good hearty soups, etc. this can deffinately make a huge difference for families that cant afford to eat. as well lots of schools have lunch programs that you can donate to as there are so man kids that go to school hungry and dont have a lunch.

have a great holiday!!
