Boy, 12, Kept Chained In Outside Shed, Beaten With Hammer

ORLANDO, Fla. -- A Central Florida woman is accused of keeping her 12-year-old son chained in an outside shed and beating him with a hammer, cans, metal poles and other items.

"The mother was abusing this child," Orange County sheriff's representative Carlos Padilla said. "She was chasing him with scissors, chains, bottles, belts and anything she could really use as a weapon."

Investigators said the boy had a multitude of thick, irregular linear- and loop-shaped scars over most of his body. They said he also had numerous marks on his back, face, abdomen and head.

After several interviews, officials said the boy confessed that his mother beat him with belts, cords, cans and glass bottles and struck him on the head with a knife. He said his mother also chased him with scissors and chained him in a bathroom and beat him with a metal pipe, according to investigators.

During questioning, the child also told investigators that his mother would keep him chained in the shed or in a bathroom.

The boy's father was arrested for doing nothing to stop the attacks, police said.

"The father was apparently aware," Padilla said. "According to the child, the father would get very upset with the mother whenever he saw the kid had been abused. And he would bring it to her attention. But that is about as far as he went. He really didn't do anything else to protect the child."

"No child deserves that type of treatment no matter what they do," Padilla said.

Local 6 News did not identify the boy's parents.

The woman was charged with aggravated child abuse and her husband was charged with child neglect.

They should be treated just like they treated their son. The mother should be hit with bottles and cords and belts and any and everything she used to hurt this boy. A mother is supposed to protect her child from harm... I hope she rots in prison!

It sickens me that other people must have had some idea of what was going on here, where are the other family members? his school? Surely a 12 year old would be taking part in sports etc and these scars would be seen by somebody. How did it finally come to light, does anyone know?

The father should be charged with more than just neglect. I can't believe he knew what was happening and didn't put a stop to it. I hope they never get their son back.

The laws need to be changed so that anyone who abuses a child receives the same kind of beatings; etc. that they inflicted on the child. Even IF these abusers get prison time; it's not good enough.
This mother may have been abused herself while she was growing up; but it's no excuse for her abusing her child. She is an adult now.
The father may (or may not) be hanging his head in shame for not doing something to save his son from this abuse; but he should still be treated as harshly as the mother.

wouldn't you think if they were abused as a child that they would make a promise to themselfs that they wouldn't do it to there own...I didn't have the best life growing up but I made a promise to myself that my daughter wouldn't have a life like that...

Flamming Mad Shocking on so many levels

Every time I read a new story about another child being so severely tortured by a family member(s) I am just so shocked I sit here trying to absorb the brutality these kids endure. Some, like this child, for months or even years yet no one steps up and tries to do something, *anything* to put a stop to it.

I get so so sick of hearing how they just look the other way because they are *afraid* for their own safety or that of their family. That is such a big cop out. There are so many avenues available for this exact reason.

Child abuse hotlines where your identity is protected. He$$ you don't even have to tell them your name! A simple call to Child and Family Services from a pay phone where there is no way of the call being traced back to you.

Did this child attend school at all? In the article it is reported that he had thick scarring from head to toe. For Gods sakes it HAD/HAS to be noticed by anyone that lays eyes on him!

I'm not sure about Florida, but I do know Illinois and many other states require any school employee, medical professional, etc. to report suspicious behavior or injuries pertaining to any child.

My father always said that chld abusers are worse than murderers. That at least adults have a small chance to defend themselves. These little kids are so helpless. Like the two *BABIES" recently in the news that have been tortured, raped and murdered. My God, it's so hard to comprehend a human being is capable of such evil.

I think they should be executed! All of them. We, the people, HAVE to demand new laws for these types of crimes. We have to demand that these animals NEVER have the opportunity to inflict such terrible and horrific acts on anyone else for as long as they are allowed to live.

These crimes invoke so many emotions in me, and they are immediate. Rage, hate, helplessness and the overwhelming desire to see these people suffer as they have made these tiny children suffer.

Especially when it is a parent, the person/people that are supposed to love, nurture and protect them.

Perhaps he was not even in school? I wonder the level of education. It sounds like he barely got out of the grasp of his mother, or did not want to be out of fear.

Angry Loyalty

Unfortunately so many abused children try to protect their parents. They will do almost anything to try and get the love they so need from mom and dad. So many think they must *deserve* this kind of treatment. They see other families and know that ALL parents love their children, so they come to the conclusion it's *them*.

Parents that abuse their kids are the worst monsters of them all.

Your comment made me cry...because you are so right. All ANY child wants is to feel loved and secure. How sad that so many children don't feel that..

Let's all make a commitment to our selves.....to watch for signs of abuse in those children who come into our lives....and to never be afraid to report it, even if we're wrong....even if it costs a friendship or whatever.

Good idea!! I come into contact with a lot of kids as I have 3 of my own. I can make this committment!!

I just read the Anne Marie West book "Out of the Shadows." She is the daughter of Fred West and stepdaughter of Rose West. Her father raped her from the age of 8 until she ran away at age 15. Her stepmother beat her, forced her to have sex with men (Rose's clients), and even forced her to have sex with Rose herself amongst other things.

What SimplySue said made me think of what Anne Marie said... her father raped her repeatedly for years. Afterwards he was nice to her and sometimes even gave her money for sweets. She never complained as this was the only form of love she had ever known.

How sad is that?
