Furniture, etc from a murderer's house ...

Hi everyone, this is only my second posting so please bear with me, and I do hope I've put this in the right section. (If not, can one of the moderators move it please?)

I was watching a programme last night about a German cannibal and I noted the few pieces of furniture in his house which still remained and was supposedly used in the murder/killing. Bed etc ... And I was wondering if anyone could tell me what happens to these pieces of furniture after the forensics have finished with them. Are they just dumped/disposed of as normal by the remaining family? I don't think that particular man had any remaining family though. Hope that's not a silly question to begin with and I hope I'm not repeating an already asked question!

i think the police keep hold of the things used in the case for a number years just incase they might need them in the future
