Angry Second-Grader Commits Suicide in New Jersey

How sad is this story? Why in the world would a second grader kill themselves? Most second graders watch cartoons and live to play with their friends. Where were his parents, you would think some signs would have been there. I just think their has to be more to this story.

Second-Grader Commits Suicide in New Jersey

setSize(curSize);

VINELAND, N.J. (AP) -- Police said a second-grader killed himself in a bedroom of his family's Vineland home on Wednesday. Authorities haven't released the name of the seven-year-old boy or that of his family.
According to The Daily Journal of Vineland, the boy hanged himself.
Police said several family members were at home when he died.
They found his body after he didn't answer a call to dinner.
Grief counselors were at the boy's school.
Cumberland County Prosecutor Ron Casella told The Press of Atlantic City that his office doesn't usually talk about suicides.
But Casella said want to counter any concerns that the boy's death was a homicide or the result of child abuse.

I'll pray for his family

Unhappy

So sad and such a waste of a young life!
2 years ago just before xmas, a 14 year old boy had an argument with his mum and jumped from the 4th floor, i remember it well as i was on the way to open my business and there were police and i saw his body in the street with a white sheet
he was a victim of school bullying and someone in class stole the mobile phone from someone and put it in his school bag...
he didnt realise it .......
when he was home that afternoon his mum got a call from the kids mum who accused the victim of stealing the phone...
his mum confronted him and he yelled WHY YOU BLAME ME!!??/
he ran and jumped....
his little sister of 6 saw it and his mum was hysterical...
the mum moved away.
I havent any clue of those school BRATS were taken to court or what happened to them, here they dont take school bullying as serious as abroad, i am hoping that this will change with time.
I am sincerelly sorry for the victim in this thread, teens are hormonal and take problems to heart and rarelly show it and rebuff anyone asking them "are you allright?"
i know because when my daughters grew up and i saw something was wrong i wouldnt take a "leave me alone i will sort it out".... i would sit quietly looking at them till they felt ready to share whatever worried them and 100% of the time i was right in following my instinct that something was wrong..

For the boy & family

Seashell, thanks for sharing your story and I'm so sorry for the family and that poor boy. I saw an episode of 60 minutes, 20/20, or 48 hr's awhile back and there were kids (between about 8-16) that were talking about school bullying and suicidal thoughts/attempts... it was heartbreaking to see this 8-10 yr. old boy talking about wanting or attempting suicide b/c of the school bullies. I was bullied horribly in school b/c I was 6'0" tall by the time I was 12 yr.'s old and I was even beat up by 3 boy's in the 8th grade... my mom homeschooled me for 2 years and I switched schools when I went back. I wasn't suicidal but, I was extremely depressed and would cut myself.... thank God for my mom b/c she saved me from the situation by homeschooling me. Now, I just hope none of my kids have to go through the same thing I went through especially my oldest daughter b/c she's only 8 and taller than some 12 y/o's.

I have a 7-year-old son and I couldn't imagine he would even know anything at all about hanging. How would a kid of this age even know how to kill themselves? Surely it must have been an accident.....? But they seem pretty certain it was suicide.

We don't even watch the news while our kids are around. My partner says things on the news can traumatise kids subconsciously. I don't know if that is true or not, but I agree they don't need to be seeing bad and tragic news at that age.

That poor little boy... this makes me so sad.

I would think that a 7-8 year old would show signs of being depressed or bullied that some adult would have picked up on. This poor child didnt know that life would get better. My heart goes out to the family... This story just made me cry.

You would think an accident, or possible homicide. I can't imagine a 7 year old intenionally wanting to kill himself. That home envirorment really needs to be checked out thoroughly, I'd say! Something wasn't right there.

Thats a sad sad story! My condolences to all involved. Usually it's a permanent solution to a temporary problem.

I have had my problems & the means. I never wanted that left as a memory or to leave others with grief. A good friend of mines best friend (whom I knew) commited suicide at 21. I never knew why. I suspected relationship problems. I know my first learning 'Love' experience was a tough one. AKA

Me too - I don't know why they think suicide and not an accident or worse - was there a note found - can a seven year old even write a suicide note? I just don't get it.

how sad the story is. I beleive it could be the home and bullying. I remember a few years ago, near where I work a young boy (I believe he was 11), hanged himself in the closet of his room.
He was bullyed at school, part of the reason he got bullyed was bc his living conditions were atrocious. His mother made him sleep in the closet, eat off the floor, and it wasn't all that clean either. I don't know the extent of what happen to the mother I think she ended up in court, but didn't do any time.

It's hard to believe a 7 year old child would kill himself. I wonder why police consider it a suicide instead of an accident?

With very little information surrounding the incident it's hard to judge saying it's a suicide. Maybe he was playing, saw something on TV and wanted to try it out, possibly the parents are trying to cover up his murder. Very rare have I ever heard of a 7 year committing suicide. Has to be more to the story. RIP

There are no words to say how bad this is. My daughter is about his age and I sure pray that if she even starts down a road like this that I would be able to see this coming. I do have her in therapy because of the divorce between her mother and I. She was 5 and started acting up and crying all the time when she was with me and begging me not to make her go back to her mother's.

She would stay with me one week and her mom the next and she would go over there on Sunday afternoon. By Friday night she was crying telling me not to make her go. So I took her to talk with someone. I try to watch out for her no matter what I have going on in my life (which is quite a lot) and again hope I would catch something like this before it became anymore of an issue.

My prayers go to this little boy and to the family as well . I do know what it's like to lose a child and it's something that no parent should ever have to go through. May God Bless this child and his family!!

This is so sad but still hard to believe that a child that young would want to end his life or even know how to do it...we've had three kids kill themselfs one hung himself in one of the playgrounds of our school's and two shot themselfs..they all went to our school district its sad because alot of the teacher's, guidance counslor's, and principal's pay no mind to it I see because I work for the school district it kills me because I feel sometimes I'm the only one who cares..
