Man held in shooting, sexual assault on 16-year-old Orting girl
TACOMA, Wash. (AP) -- A 15-year-old Orting girl has been shot and sexually assaulted, and Pierce County sheriff's deputies say an 18-year-old man has been arrested. Sheriff's Detective Ed Troyer says the man was booked into jail in Tacoma yesterday for investigation of attempted first-degree murder. The man was scheduled to appear in court Monday afternoon.
Troyer says the girl was shot a number of times at a gathering in the Orting area Saturday night. She is being treated at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, and Troyer says she is expected to live.
Troyer says it appears that man took the girl out, shot her and then raped her. He says, "This just as easily could have been a homicide investigation."
