Chester Stiles has a long arrest record in Las Vegas dating back eight years.

He is currently wanted by Metro for lewdness with a child under 14 years of age. That warrant was issued in April of 2006.

Metro also sent us this long list of other arrests. In April of 2003 Stiles was arrested for conspiracy to commit grand larceny auto. Three years earlier he was arrested for a series of crimes from resisting a public officer to domestic violence.

In June of 1999 Stiles was arrested on several charges including obstructing a police officer and assault with a deadly weapon and battery domestic violence.

PAHRUMP, Nev. -- Nye County officers have identified the young girl in a sex abuse tape.

In the recording, the man calls the girl "Madison," officers announced in a press conference. They do not know her exact location, and are still requesting the public's help locating her.

"Madison is a very rare name, actually," Nye County Sheriff Tony Dameo said. "As far investigative aspect, it became very popular after the movie 'Splash' -- its the character that Darryl Hannah played."

Officers also said that "Madison" has a distinguishing mark on her body, but would not clarify what it looks like or its location.

"Due to the nature of the investigation and the need for us to prioritize those leads, we're retaining its exact location at this time," said Detective David Boruchowitz, with the Nye County Sheriff's Office.

In the same conference, police said they are also looking for a person of interest in this case. Officers said Chester Arthur Stiles, 37, is wanted for questioning in regards to the investigation, but would not discuss his connection to the inquiry.

Stiles has been wanted by Metro police, officers said, since 2004 on suspicion of lewd acts with a minor.

District Attorney: Tuck Failed Polygraph

PAHRUMP, Nev. -- The Nye County District Attorney said the man who turned the sexual abuse tape in to authoritites failed a polygraph test Friday.

Darren Tuck turned the tape over to authorities last week. Tuck admitted to an officer Friday that he has had possession of the tape since May, but only recently turned it over to authorities. He is facing charges of possession of child pornography and promotion of sexual acts of a minor.

Authorities would not confirm which section of the polygraph he failed.

Nye County sheriff's Detective David Boruchowitz told The Associated Press, "We found the victim. She's safe."

Nevada authorities are still looking for a man the previously had called a "person of interest" in the case, but are now calling a suspect.

Authorities said a warrant has been issued for the arrest of Chester Arthur Stiles in connection with the case.

At a Friday night press conference, Boruchowitz described Stiles' connection to the girl's family as a "second-tier friend."

Boruchowitz said the department had received "tips by the hundreds" after asking for the public's help in locating the girl and Stiles.

Nye County Sheriff Tony DeMeo said authorities believe the girl's mother was not aware of the incident and asked the public to respect the family's privacy.

A young girl who was seen being sexually assaulted in a homemade videotape was found Friday and is safe with relatives and sheriff's officials, authorities said.

"She looks like a very happy 7-year-old girl," Nye County sheriff's Detective David Boruchowitz said at a news conference late Friday. She was 3 when the tape was made, he said.

Chester Arthur Stiles, who was previously being sought for questioning, is now considered a suspect but remains at large, Nye County Sheriff Tony DeMeo said.

Stiles has tenuous ties to the family through friends, Boruchowitz said.

The crime took place in Las Vegas, where the girl was found with her mother, DeMeo said. The girl's mother was cooperating with the investigation, he said.

"The mother was not aware of anything that went on with this young girl," he said.

Widespread media accounts of the case led someone to call the girl's mother, who contacted police, authorities said.

"Somebody contacted her and said, 'Hey your daughter's on TV,'" Boruchowitz said. "She recognized her daughter."

Police had released information they would not normally release in such crimes, such as a photograph of the girl, DeMeo said.

"We sat down ... and said, 'You know what? We have nothing else,'" he said.

Earlier in the day, authorities gave to the media a first name for the girl, whose haunting face could be seen in the video in which she was raped and sexually assaulted.

The Associated Press is no longer identifying or releasing photos of the girl because she is a suspected victim of sexual abuse. It did so earlier in the interest of the girl's safe recovery.

Stiles, 37, whose last known address was Las Vegas, is wanted on an unrelated state warrant on a charge of lewdness with a minor younger than 14 and a federal charge of being a fugitive, DeMeo said. .....

A big break in the Pahrump sexual assault mystery came Friday night when police revealed the young girl was found safe at home with her mother in Las Vegas.

But police say the search is on for the man they are now calling the primary suspect in this horrific case of child sexual abuse.

Chester Arthur Stiles, who was previously sought for questioning as a "person of interest" in the case, was characterized as a "several tier away" friend of the girl's family, the detective said. ....

EXCERPT: Channel 8 Eyewitness News has learned that it was the mother of one of the girl's playmates who recognized her.

Nye County Sheriff Tony DeMeo and detectives met the victim face to face in Las Vegas where she lives.

Sheriff DeMeo said, "The mother was not aware of anything that went on with this young girl."

Detective Dave Boruchowitz said both the girl and mother cried as they talked. He says the sexual assault happened in Las Vegas.

"In fact, the mother actually recognized the furniture, recognized the TV," Sheriff DeMeo continued.

Detective Boruchowitz says the man on the tape is Chester Stiles and that he was a family friend.

Detectives also pinpointed the tape was made in 2003 when the victim was just three years old. Boruchowitz says she does not show any signs of a girl who has been sexually abused.

Sheriff DeMeo stated, "Let me say this to Mr. Stiles. Chester Arthur Styles. Turn yourself in to your local law enforcement agency."

The Nye County sheriff wants to find Stiles soon to prevent another sexual assault like the one on the tape.

The Nye County district attorney said that an anonymous source called Stiles a survivalist. That he was always armed and at one point said he would not be taken alive. He also called Stiles paranoid. But the relationship between Stiles and this source is not exactly clear.

Sex tape focus shifts back to Las Vegas

RENO, NV (CBS/AP) -- The search for the suspect in the videotaped sexual assault of a little girl was shifted Saturday from a rural county to Las Vegas, where the man was last known to live and where it's believed the chilling tape was made.

Chester "Chet" Arthur Stiles was referred to Friday as a suspect as the FBI and Nye County investigators concluded that he was the man seen on the tape molesting a 3-year-old girl.

The girl, who is now 7, was found safe in Las Vegas with her mother, who was unaware of the assault, Nye County sheriff's Detective David Boruchowitz said Friday in Pahrump.

Stiles, 34, has lived in Pahrump, 50 miles west of Las Vegas, but his most recent address was in Las Vegas and that is where he was last seen, two weeks ago, Boruchowitz said at a news conference Friday night.

Las Vegas Metro Police gave little information about the investigation Saturday.

"We have assumed the lead on the sexual assault case. We are conducting an ongoing investigation but have no further details," Bill Cassell, the department's public information officer, said tersely. .....

Nye sheriff has no regrets about agonizing decision

PAHRUMP -- Though Nye County Sheriff Tony DeMeo tried to shackle his emotions early Saturday, they escaped.

"You don't know how we agonized over whether to release pictures to the media of that little girl," the weary 56-year-old lawman said, trying unsuccessfully to choke back tears. "People may think cops are callous and cavalier, but we're not. We believed there was a child in need of rescue.

"People may say we gambled, but I'm sure we did the right thing," DeMeo said, sipping on the largest coffee Starbucks has to offer.

Fourteen hours earlier, he had conducted a news conference to announce that a young girl who was seen being sexually assaulted in a homemade video had been found safe Friday afternoon. She was in Las Vegas with her mother.

Authorities first received the tape, described by a detective on the case as "horrifying," three weeks ago.

With food his wife Linda had brought him growing cold on his desk, DeMeo sat at a table in his office and said he is troubled by e-mails and phone calls from people questioning his judgment, people arguing that he probably "revictimized the victim."

"I'll take the heat for it," he said, closing his eyes as he ran his right hand through his thick shock of white hair. "I can sleep at night. We were in uncharted territory. We had no other choice."

There was no other way, DeMeo said, that investigators would have learned of the girl's identity from a tipster Friday if the pictures hadn't been released. He said his investigators were hamstrung by not knowing any of the subjects in the video. They didn't even know what year it had been recorded or where the crime took place.

At first, his deputies only showed photos taken from the video to administrators and teachers at schools and recreation and day care centers in Pahrump, but that effort turned up no leads, DeMeo said. .....

FUGITIVES SOUGHT: Child's safety was aim of lawmen

Two people wanted in connection with the half-hour videotape of a 3-year-old girl being sexually assaulted were still at large Saturday night.

Authorities believe Chester "Chet" Stiles, who has been named by police as the man seen molesting the child on the tape, and Darrin Tuck, the 26-year-old Pahrump man who turned the video over to authorities, are on the run.

Stiles' last known address was in Las Vegas, and he was reported to have been in the valley as recently as two weeks ago, Nye County sheriff's Detective David Boruchowitz said.

About 12:25 p.m. Saturday, someone reported seeing a man who looked like Stiles near Fremont and Bruce streets, and Las Vegas police rushed to the area but never found the man.

Las Vegas police took over the case Friday after investigators determined the taped sexual assault took place in Las Vegas. The video was not taken at the girl's home, police said.

The girl, who is now 7, was found safe at her mother's Las Vegas home Friday afternoon. Police said they saw no reason to remove the girl from her home.

Las Vegas police have been working the case nonstop since Friday evening, said officer Ramon Denby, a department spokesman. They contacted "America's Most Wanted" and the case was scheduled to air on Saturday night's show, he said.

Stiles, 37, was described to Nye County District Attorney David Beckett as a survivalist and had reportedly told at least one person he would never be taken alive.

Beckett became confident that Stiles was the man on the tape when a Las Vegas attorney called him saying a client of his was certain Stiles was the man on the video. .....

Excerpt: Authorities have said Tuck failed a lie detector test. "He's lied all the way through this case," Boruchowitz said.

Tuck spent two days in jail after being arrested the week of Sept. 20 on charges of possession and dissemination of child pornography, both felonies. He was released without bail pending a Nov. 26 hearing in Pahrump Justice Court.

DeMeo and Boruchowitz speculated Saturday that the real reason Tuck came forward with the tape was to distract them from an investigation of a burglary ring that involved many of his associates.

"He didn't have a crisis of conscience," Boruchowitz said. "If his conscience or morality was involved, he would have come forward with the tape four or five months ago."

PAHRUMP, Nevada — The man who turned in a tape showing the sexual assault of a 3-year-old was taken into custody on Sunday after violating probation and failing a polygraph test, police said.

Police had been looking for Darren Tuck, 26, after he disappeared from his home on Friday, the same day the child shown in the tape was found safe in Las Vegas and a family acquaintance named a suspect, fox5vegas.com reported.

Tuck surrendered on Sunday and was expected to be charged on Monday with possession of child pornography and possibly promoting child pornography, Nye County Sheriff Tony DeMeo said.

LAS VEGAS – Authorities in Nye County on Sunday took into custody Darren Tuck, a man they suspect of holding and showing off a tape depicting the rape of a 3-year-old girl.

Tuck, 26, arranged to surrender after evading arrest since Friday, said Nye County Sheriff Tony DeMeo.

“He was escaping but apparently there were no options for him,” DeMeo said Sunday. “We believe that he was just too hot to handle.” .....

Local Communities Being Searched For Man Suspected of Videotaping Rape

EL CAJON, Calif. -- El Cajon is one of numerous communities where authorities are looking for a man suspected in the videotaped rape a 3-year-old girl, an FBI agent said Sunday.

Registered sex offender Chester "Chet" Arthur Stiles, 34, who is reportedly a survivalist, has been in El Cajon before, but the town is only one of about 30 places where authorities are looking for him, said spokeswoman April Langwell of the San Diego FBI office.

"As is typical with any fugitive, you have agents in Nevada that are going to try and find places where that person might have a connection to,'' Langwell said. .....

(CBS/AP) As the man who gave police a videotape showing a young girl being sexually abused was about to be arraigned, sheriff's deputies continue to look for the man they believe actually committed the abuse.

Authorities hope to find Chester "Chet" Arthur Stiles, 34, soon.

"I believe that Chester Arthur Stiles has some additional information that he can provide, some light on maybe other activity that has taken place, and maybe in this jurisdiction, Clark County, and other states as well," Nye County, Nevada, Sheriff Tony DeMeo said on CBS News' The Early Show Monday. "I believe that he's a link a very dark side of our society, so I want him, I want him alive."

Stiles has a long criminal record, including charges for assault and battery, resisting arrest, contempt of court, and grand larceny, reports CBS News Early Show national correspondent Jeff Glor. Stiles was once an animal trainer for the famous team of Siegfried and Roy. He's told friends he was in the military, and police believe he's armed and dangerous. .....
