OMG! I just got thru reading about this elsewhere. How horrible.I hope you don't mind that I copied some of the article to post because more than likely it will disappear in a day or two. An 11-month-old boy died in the back seat of the family car in Concord on Tuesday after his father apparently forgot to drop him off at day care and instead left him locked inside the vehicle while he spent the day at work, police said. The father, 46-year-old Danny Takemoto of Benicia, left home early Tuesday with his son strapped into a child seat, according to Concord police Lt. David Chilimidos. The boy was identified Thursday by the Contra Costa County Coroner's office as 11-month-old Ian Takemoto. The man did not stop at the child care center and went directly to his office at a medical equipment company at 4040 Nelson Ave., parking his car, a blue Honda sedan, in the lot near the office. His wife phoned him at work shortly before 3:30 p.m. to ask why the child care facility had called her to report that her son was not there. In horror, Takemoto raced outside to the car and found the lifeless body of his son still strapped in the car seat, Chilimidos said. Temperatures in Concord reached 80 on Tuesday, but the car windows were believed to have been rolled up, and extreme temperatures inside the car were probably a factor in the child's death, he said. "It doesn't take very long to elevate the internal temperature inside a closed car," Chilimidos said. Police questioned the father at police headquarters and booked him into county jail in Martinez on suspicion of manslaughter, Chilimidos said. |

Oh that is so sad. That poor sweet baby. I can't even imagine what the mother is going through. Such a tragedy.

I have two questions. How does one forget that their child is in the vehicle with them? And why is it usually the father that forgets that his child is in the vehicle with him? I just do not understand how this can happen.

![]() Not making any excuses because I don't really understand, but my thoughts are if dropping the child off at day care is a "far and few between" experience for the father, he may have become preoccupied and honestly forgot he had the baby in the car and dove into his work and never even thought about it until his wife called. I wonder how long this marriage will last after this!

Hi
I agree with Athena. Let's not judge, as tragic as this may be. It is SO easy to loose track of who or what you may be transporting. Credit to the dad, he had the kiddy strapped in a baby chair in the back which indicate that he ORIGINALLY had the child's safety at heart. Not many parents observe this rule. Then this poor nucklehead forgot he's a father and one transporting that very child. Now he's directly responsible for his child's death. How terrible. Please remember that he lost his child too, and to make it worst, he lost his child due to his own forgetfulness. How can you possibly punish this man more than what he's doing to himself right now. My heart bleeds for him. |

The same paper printed another story saying it could happen to anyone and I guess it has, all the more reason to be diligent!

There is something so wrong in our behavioral patterns when our workaholic habits can result in the kind of tunnelvision where we don't even think of our families during the workday. If the dad had stopped for a minute over lunch just to meditate on how much he loved his family, he would have realized he'd forgotten something. So sad. Now too late.

Dear Lord, this poor daddy & momma. I cannot begin to imagine their pain and his guilt & shame. Let's not rush to judgement, please.
How many of us are parents with jobs? Ever felt rushed, frazzled & already tired upon arriving at work? Please don't think I'm excusing his behaviour/forgetfulness!! But he & his wife will have to live with this for the rest of their lives. Society could not inflict a more severe & painful punishment upon them than they carry tonight. I am a firm believer of sensors in car seats. There has to be a way to put a sensor in the carseat to read the weight of a baby or child when the ignition is turned off. Poor baby. beachgirl40 |

It is sad that Money rules most of Society. Which leads to stress and major issues, almost making robots out of those wanting to stay afloat or get ahead. I don't recall this phenomena back in the day, so it must be another sign of the tiimes of not stopping to smell the roses and all that. Yes indeed, poor poor baby , just can't imagine but I won't be judgemental. imo

I was wondering if this happens more after the requirement that kids be in car seats in the back.
