Remains of Missing Lincoln Teen Identified

The skeletal remains that were located on January 26, 2007 in Lancaster County have been identified as Melissa Ann Schmidt. Melissa Schmidt was a 15 year old teen who was last seen at her home at 1105 S. 12th Street #1 at about 1:00 A.M. on Saturday, September 5th 1995. Melissa is believed to have been the victim of a homicide that occurred at the time of her disappearance.

Through the investigation, members of the Lincoln Police Department and Lancaster County Sheriff’s Department developed information which led to the discovery of human remains that were disposed of in southwest Lancaster County. On January 26th, these remains were located and DNA comparisons have corroborated the remains as being those of Melissa Schmidt.

There have been no arrests made in conjunction with this investigation at this time. We do, however, have a suspect who is currently in custody in another crime and not a threat to the public.

I just googled to see if there were more recent updates, but saw none. Here is a link posted to the web on the same day, with a photo. There does not seem to be a lot of information (yet, anyway).
