Leeds Gate domestic stabbing death
Savannah-Chatham Police are investigating an early morning stabbing that sent two family members to the hospital. Frederick Choisnet Sr., 83, of Savannah, died at Memorial Health University Medical Center several hours later. His son, Frederick Choisnet Jr., 54, is in jail charged with murder.
The stabbing death stemmed from a domestic altercation between the stepfather and son. The suspect, Choisnet Jr., will be arraigned at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Recorder's Court.
Police responded to the home in the 500 block of Leeds Gate Road shortly after 7 a.m., on a report of the stabbing. When the officers arrived, they found the victim suffering from multiple stab wounds.
The younger Choisnet had suffered a cut to the hand, which also required medical treatment.
Violent crimes detectives learned the men were arguing when the suspect pulled a kitchen knife and began stabbing the victim. In doing so, he sustained the cut to his hand.
Detectives identified the suspect as the aggressor in the altercation, although the nature of the argument remains unclear. They arrested him around 1 p.m. at police headquarters following his release from the hospital.
