Phillip Distasio, who said he is the leader of a church called Arcadian Fields Ministries, represented himself at his pretrial hearing Wednesday. He is charged with 74 counts including rape, pandering obscenity to minors and corrupting another with drugs.

"I'm a pedophile. I've been a pedophile for 20 years," he said in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court Wednesday. "The only reason I'm charged with rape is that no one believes a child can consent to sex. The role of my ministry is to get these cases out of the courtrooms."

This case is being discussed on many Pagan chat boards and it makes us sick to see this sorry excuse of a human being try to defend his actions as sacred.

Just goes to show that Christians aren't the only ones who hide behind religion while molesting children.

I personally think some of these pervs know, so very much, how bad this is that they feel they need to have special divine permission to do their deeds to excuse themselves.

notice he says he's been a pedophile for 20 yrs? He's only 34.

Which tells me either he was a juvenile offender at 14, who was never identified and stopped, or he was a victim himself once or both.

If the parents of the victims were aware that this was going on then they need to be charged and their children need to be taken away from them.

This is just sick.

They weren't, he was running a tutoring service, the parents trusted him as a teacher, that he may have met the parents through Pagan contacts does not mean they shared his sickness...its like parents finding a tutor for their handicapped child through a christian church setting....and him betraying their trust.

No different, they are outraged that he hurt their children, took advantage of the autistic difficulties in communication and abused them. They no more deserve to go to jail then any parent so betrayed.

Some Christian pedophiles (or better phrased "pedofiles who claim to be Christians") say that the part of the Gospel where Jesus heals the young servant of the Roman gave pedophiles the seal of approval for their lifestyle (they claim that the soldier and his boy servant must be lovers to have the Roman care about his life so much)....it doesn't matter what you believe or I believe...to a pedophile it is something they latch onto to justify their perversions if they are religiously minded. It doesn't make their actions remotely religiously justified or a ritual of Christianity however....and neither does anything this pervert says. He knows damned well he will have no supporters for his position in the majority of the Pagan community. He can spout Ganymede or whatever til he's blue in the face, and nothing will ever make what he did acceptable to us....what he did was no ritual. Rituals honor. He abused, filmed, and kept secrets and preyed upon children....nothing he did honored those children, life or the Gods.

He did it for himself and nothing else...like all pedophiles regardless of their religions

This is one of the wors things I have heard of. I think that these people do it so much because the law does not give out just sentences. People get away with murder let alone with something like this.
I know that if somebody did do something to my son, I would take the justice in my own hands and give him a little bit of my ritual which, trust me, it's not something he or she would enjoy.

Not once did this predator say he was a Christian. I heard this person is Catholic. But what does that matter? The children are what is most important! When do we start considering protecting the children as opposed to trying to find out what religion a person is. Isn't that beside the point. He is guilty!

no one has said this person was Christian.

what I said was that certain people will try to justify this kind of abuse by saying their beliefs allow it. The FLDS, Catholic Priests, Bible Camp Counselors, Boy Scout leaders, this Moron, etc....they either try to justify it in their minds or as this Moron, and the FLDS seems to think will work, before a court of law.

No one has said this idiot is a Christian or that Christians believe in molesting children, but what should be understood is that Pagans don't believe in molesting children either, this was a crime and the "ritual" defense is a crock...there was no ritual....only a sad excuse.

Excuse me if I missed it, but how did this guy get caught after all of these years? Just curious!

If you ask me these things ( I refuse to call them human beings) should be strung up, by you know what, at sunrise and left for the birds and bugs to get them. They do not deserve to be a part of the human race. They can never be cured, no matter what the pros say. Both of my children are grown now but I do have Grandchildren and great nieces and nephews that I worry about everyday. They are protected in the prisons, they do not go into the general population, because even they can not stand them. So I REALLY REALLY Hope that the bill goes thru that Mark Lundsford and others are working on and that our LE will be able to enforce it. Our children deserve it. JMO

This is sick. Let's all hope he's tall enough or ugly enough that prison won't be such a burden to him

I know if anyone touches my kid, I wouldn't think twice about showing them what I think should be done to this kind of person.

I also feel that they should be put in general pop, why do they get protected? They weren't worried about what they were doing, so if they get caught, I say let 'em hang.

I think one of the parents was able to get the story out of one of the handicapped children and they investigated
