Jessicas Law
What are the result of that law in Florida?
Is it less raped kids?
Is it less missing kids?
Is it less murdered kids?
Does anyone now if the law worked?

The Law doesn't go into effect until September 1st.
Matter of fact, todays news is talking about how DOJ is just now testing out the GPS tracking. About a month ago, I remember there was a problem of some sort with the companies that were bidding on the tracking. Don't recall the specifics.
Also, part of this law is schools doing FBI checks on all people who work on school campuses. Last I heard, nobody knew exactly who was going to pay for this.
School just started this week for some Counties and there was a bus stop right next to a sex offender. The School wasn't going to move it until parents called a meeting at the school.
At yet another school, there was X amount of registered offfenders living to close to a brand new school.
We have a ways to go!!!!

More evidence released in Jessie's case
I cannot find a link at this time, just heard it on the 6pm news.
There is a letter that was found in Couey's cell addressed to Bill O. Couey says that he would give Bill an interview. And that there were at least 3 other peeps in the trailer that night. One of the men knows more than he is saying. (news showed pic of letter)
Toxicology reports are back and there was traces of cocaine in Jessie's system. They said something about natural body fluids had broken down the traces of cocaine and that she more than likely didn't ingest it. That it might have came from the bag she was buried in. Or the test didnt come out right.
Both Couey and Jessie's DNA was found on the matress inside the trailer.
I will post a link when the news stations web site's update later on or tommorrow.

"New information has surfaced about evidence in the Jessica Lunsford case."
According to the medical examiner, two byproducts of cocaine were found in Lunsford's system during the autopsy. However, a prosecutor in the case says only trace amounts were found, which may be attributed to Lunsford touching something in Couey's bedroom that had cocaine on it.
The prosecutor said the levels found were not consistent with someone being around heavy drug use for several days. That would seem to call into question Couey's claim that he was in a drug haze throughout the rape and murder.
Another document released was a letter written by Couey to Bill O'Reilly from the O'Reilly Factor. In the letter, he said three people were in the house at the time of the crime and one of them knew more than what he was saying. That letter was never mailed and was found in the trash."

Florida schools struggle with Jessica Lunsford Act
"School leaders support the tighter regulations. But they say the plan will cost hundreds of thousands of dollars and schools may not
complete all background checks by the September first deadline.
Some builders want their workers exempted from fingerprinting if construction sites are fenced off from school campuses."

"TV host Bill O'Reilly has repeatedly criticized the law enforcement investigation into Jessica Lunsford's slaying. He's questioned the prosecutors' decision not to charge John Couey's housemates with any crime. He has ridiculed State Attorney Brad King.
Now it's clear someone close to the case has been listening and wants to talk back: John Couey.
Couey, the 46-year-old sex offender accused of kidnapping, sexually assaulting and killing Jessica, heard about O'Reilly and sent him a letter from his jail cell. Fox News spokeswoman Irena Briganti wouldn't discuss the letter's contents, but she confirmed O'Reilly had received mail from the inmate."

Wow, Couey actually mailed one of the letters.

"Ridgway said the letter appears to be one from Couey to television talk show host Bill O'Reilly, but that the letter appears to have been thrown out instead of being mailed. No envelope or forwarding address was found.
A producer for O'Reilly's Fox News program, "The O'Reilly Factor," said he had not received the letter, but that O'Reilly would be talking about it on his show tonight."

Conflicting reports! Bill will be talking about this on his show tonight.

Jessica's Law
God Bless You! Mark Lunsford. Who of us could have the stamina and the courage to stand up for the rights of other children after such a horrific rape and murder of a precious, innocent little 9 year old child. He is an absolute tribute to his little girl, and in being so is doing his best to help other parents not to have to go through such a dreadful and dispicable situation.

He is a man, a father, you have to admire. He speaks from his heart and he is determined to make a difference.
This week is bikers week in my town. And I can't see the bikers without thinking about Jessica, without thinking about her dad Mark. The connection is permanent, how they stepped up and cared. jmo

BROOKSVILLE - The man accused of raping and slaying 9- year-old Jessica Marie Lunsford was ordered to undergo sex-offender and substance- abuse counseling related to his earlier conviction on a child- sex charge, but he completed neither, prosecutors said in evidence released Friday.
In another document released Friday, Couey's grandmother wrote in 1980 that he was raised by a father who hated him.
``He was beat and shuffled around ... he had to sleep on the street and eat out of people's garbage,'' the woman wrote in a letter asking a state senator to have Couey transferred to a prison closer to his family in north Florida.
At the time he was serving a 10-year sentence for burglary.
``My grandson has had a hard life and his mind is all warped,'' the woman wrote.
Friday's documents also included chilling photographs of Jessica's makeshift grave"

The actions are aimed at meeting the intent of the Jessica Lunsford Act"

"Authorities have released new documents in the case against John Couey, the man accused of raping and killing 9-year-old Jessica Lunsford in Homosassa Springs in February"
In interviews with investigators in Georgia in March, Couey said he had been charged in the past with exposing himself to a child, and that he thinks he did it because he himself is a rape victim.
The documents released Tuesday also include a confession to investigators of a sex crime more than 10 years ago. That confession took place in Kissimmee, and Couey said he coaxed a small child into playing with him, then exposed himself to her"
http://www.baynews9.com/content/36/2...11/122940.html
Listening to Couey gives me chills down my spine. Top that off with Joseph Smith also being in the news today and one can actually gag!!!!!
Media should not do that to its viewers, ya know? One at a time is more than enough!!!!

"The 260 new pages released by prosecutors Tuesday in their capital murder case against John Couey don’t just reveal details about the murder of Jessica Lunsford, but also provide a glimpse into how the 9-year-old girl was starting to grow up."
http://www.chronicleonline.com/artic...ews/news90.txt
"In his tight, neat handwriting, Couey described biblical tales, including a struggle between the angel Michael and the devil. He also sketched several crosses and mused whether humans have guardian angels. He included a joke about a man who gets three wishes. The man's final wish was to make himself appealing to women.
Couey's next scheduled court appearance is 2 p.m. Thursday in Inverness"

There are several people working to get law passed on federal level. Sen. Orrin Hatch & Ed Smart spoke in favor of federal version of Jessica's law. Possible Roadblock
The attempt to get federal legislation through may have hit a roadblock in the form of Sen. Kennedy of MA. Sen. Kennedy wants to add a rider to bill attaching hate crime legislation, which may kill bill.
Sen Hatch said,
"It would really interfere with what we're trying to do with the sex offender bill,” said Hatch. “It looks almost like they don't want the sex offender bill at all.” Refering to Sen. Kennedy.
Hope bill dosen't get bogged down in Rep vrs Dem politics, hate crimes bill is important, but dosen't need to be attached in a manner that stops bill on sex offenders, IMO.

Documents shed light on Couey polygraph test
"Special Agent Terry Wetmore indicated during a Sept. 27 deposition that test results were so dramatic that he knew Couey wasn’t telling the truth about what he knew. He said he finished the polygraph examination, unhooked Couey from the machine and moved a chair in front of him before speaking."
“I know my opening statement to Mr. Couey was, ‘now we both know the truth,’ ” Wetmore said under deposition. “ ‘You took that little girl.’ ”
“After about 15 to 20 minutes, he said, ‘OK, I did it,’ ” he said. “After that, the first thing actually I said to him is, ‘You can take us to where she is now.’ And he said, ‘Well, she’s right there, she’s by my sister’s steps… .’ ”

Lady, As usual, great links! Thanks. The information shows that John Couey fell through the cracks(in the system) as a child and then as an adult. I suspect that his trial will go much the same way as Joseph Smith's. Next year at this time they should both be neighbors on Florida's Death Row! Justice for Jesse

"Mark Lunsford is touring the nation to talk about the Jessica Lunsford Act.
The Florida law is named for his daughter Jessica, who was kidnapped from her Citrus County home and killed earlier this year.
Lunsford has been to New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Kentucky to try to get states to pass their own version of the Lunsford Act"

YW, Propros.
No link as of yet, per local news, more documents in the case were released today.
Most notably, a long letter that Couey wrote to the Judge that handled his charge back in the 90's.
Couey asks for help, and says something about the devil making him do it.
The letter was shown on the news and I hope to see more about it in tommorrows paper.

So, even though his family "knew" he was a repeat offender, they continued to want "good ole John" around to get high with! How many other children in the Couey/Secord family have been abused? Even though, these links infuriate me, I thank for posting them Lady.

I believe I would continue to love and support a family member, even if he/she was a pedi, however, I would never trust that person around children.
But drugs can do some strange things to people, including turning your back, or just not caring.

Lady, I do know something about supporting family members. I have 2 BIL doing LWOP in Pelican Bay State Prison here in California (not pedi) however, they did receive the 3rd strike. The thing that upsets me is the fact that I never quite bought the story that the Couey 3 were completely innocent in regards to Jessica. I suppose the trial will bring out all the gruesome facts. Keep posting the great links,I look forward to them.

Sorry to hear that, Propros. It must be difficult dealing with the emotions of a loved one in prison; especially, for life. My neighbors Father is serving 12 years for manslaughter. He was more than a 3 striker. Mainly, he was a scam artist and bad check writer, and would constantly violate his probation.
One night he was riding his motorcycle, with his GF on the back, he didn't make a complete stop, cop tried pulling him over, he speed off, wrecked, and killed his GF. He had a warrant out for his arrest.
While my neighbor wasn't exactly close to his Dad, he has came crying on Mr.Gator's shoulder numerous times over the way his Dad chose to live his life.
My main reason for coming here tonight is that something happened with Couey today. But Teen Gator came in and spoke at the wrong time so I didn't hear the report completely.
Something about a status hearing, his Lawyers filed something, and I think a possible delay in the trial. Hope to hear the report again at 11pm.

Re: First Christmas without Jessie
Thanks for the links. I saw a video of Couey this evening. He was clean shaven and looked "cleaner". On the contrary, Mark Lunsford looks so tired. I was thinking this morning how hard this first Christmas would be for Mark and his family. Unfortunately, there will always be people that throw their lives away and hurt others along with themselves. I am glad to hear that the prosecution is pushing to get JC to trial. On a lighter note, I hope that you and all your "gators" have a great holiday.
