AMSTERDAM (Reuters) - Dutch pedophiles are launching a political party to push for a cut in the legal age for sexual relations to 12 from 16 and the legalization of child pornography and sex with animals.

The Charity, Freedom and Diversity (NVD) party said on its Web site it would be officially registered Wednesday, proclaiming: "We are going to shake The Hague awake!"

The party said it wanted to cut the legal age for sexual relations to 12 and eventually scrap the limit altogether.

"A ban just makes children curious," Ad van den Berg, one of the party's founders, told the Algemeen Dagblad (AD) newspaper.

"We want to make pedophilia the subject of discussion," he said, adding that the subject had been a taboo since the 1996 Marc Dutroux child abuse scandal in neighboring Belgium. "We have been hushed up. The only way is through parliament."

The Netherlands already has liberal policies on soft drugs, prostitution, and gay marriage, but the NVD is unlikely to win much support, the AD quoted experts as saying.

"They make out as if they want more rights for children. But their position that children should be allowed sexual contact from age 12 is of course just in their own interest," anti-pedophile campaigner Ireen van Engelen told the daily.

The party said private possession of child pornography should be allowed although it favors banning the trade of such materials. The broadcast of pornography should be allowed on daytime television, with only violent pornography limited to the late evening, according to the party.

Toddlers should be given sex education and youths aged 16 and up should be allowed to appear in pornographic films and prostitute themselves. Sex with animals should be allowed although abuse of animals should remain illegal, the NVD said.

The party also said everybody should be allowed to go naked in public.

The party's program also includes ideas for other areas of public policy including legalizing all soft and hard drugs and free train travel for all.

I hate to say it but there will be people there who will support this,and there are some here who would like to see this happen (think spineless judges).

Is this for real? I mean I know they're liberal, but pedophiles? That's beyond the "taboo" right? and sisteen is old enough to be in an adult film? No no no... wait, and sex with animals should be ok, but not abuse?? How do you have sex with an animal without abusing it?

OMG, what are they thinking. 12 year old childen??? Animals??? Porn on daytime tv???? And then to end the article, everyone should be able to ride trains, free.

What?!? Did I read that article correctly? They are saying that sex with 12 year old children should be ok? And...sex with animals, as long as there is no animal abuse? How can that be possible? Call me a prude, call me old fashioned, heck...call me an old fashioned prude, but I don't think its ok to have sex with 12 year old children or any age child for thay matter...or animals of any age or kind.

IMO, that free train travel thing is just going too far.

No way, I'm all for naked train rides in amsterdam... no, wait, nevermind, I keep forgetting that there are actually children there... and oh yeah, I just remembered the original post I guess that place is a good experiment in why liberal laws aren't always a good thing, huh? I still really want to go, though, to Amsterdam once.

Laws have been changing for over 25 years over there. And this is just a continuation of a very SICK, SICK (IMO) campaign to somehow JUSTIFY deviant desires and try to alter the perception or NORMALIZE the behavior.

And US can either continue to listen to how we are supposedly too old fashioned and be tricked or taunted to allow the Nation to continue to slide down the slippery slope of viewing this as a battle for or against Free Speech OR we can get in gear and try to stop this now and make our communities more safe and allow our quality of life to not be infringed by dangerous conduct.
