Flamming Mad Another woman rapes a boy

Today our paper, The Vero Beach (FL) Press Journal, features another woman who had sex with a boy--her son's friend and teammate. WHY is there such a seeming epidemic today?

Is there a website or the name of the paper you wish to disclose so as to viewing this story?

Thanks

I believe this is much more common than any of us realize. It is "cool" for a young guy to have sex with an older "hot" woman. Just watch the American Pie movies. That is why we haven't heard of it so much til now. While with boys, it is a so called "right of passage", it is considered taboo for an underage girl to have sex with an older man. Kudos to those parents who are bringing this to the forefront of the media. I believe it shouldn't have taken so long. JMO

[Just for the record, I am totally against underage kids having sex with anyone. Just wanted to make the point that it is happening everywhere, everyday.]

Flamming Mad Lets be real

I agree that kids should not have sex with anyone with that being said. I think it is sick that they do not have the same srtictness for men as they do women. It is like saying it is okay for boys but its a crime against girls. I think that one crime is just as bad as the other so I agree I am so glad that there is more media coverage about women and little boys. The media needs to keep up the good work. jmo

Denise Harvey

The trial has been postponed until May. This means the actual assault happened over two years ago. I think the accused hoped the publicity would fade. So sad for the boy she raped.

When I was in school the "guys" would have thought that was super cool and sweet! NOT being raped of course but having sex!

Woman are capable for this crime too and woman should be punished equally. If the person is under the age of 18 then she should (if found guilty) be punished.

I often ask myself what would I do if my son (at the age of 15) came home and confided in me that he had sex with a female teacher? From a father's point of view I would need to report this to the police! However (here's the hypocrisy), from a man's point of view I would want to hi-five him! That of course would not happen, but you understand my point.

Some kids mature at an early age and many times often are having intercourse at an early age. If there's a parent reading this thinking that your teenager is NOT thinking about sex then you are very naive. My boys are 11 and we had a talk yesterday about sex; however "thank God" there is a class in school just for this awkward occasion. BUT (an elephant but), sex education should be the parent's responsibility too!

I would hope my sons would come to me and tell me if each is no longer a virgin! At the age of 30 of course. LOL.

Let's hope this boy gets the necessary counseling.

I sort of blame the attention Mary Kay Letourneau received for the epidimic this seems to have become. I remember being so disgusted when all that was going on because the media - including Crime Library - treated her like a darling. Poor Mary Kay. Not only did she lose her job and kids, but she had to go to jail with other criminals! How is that fair?

I think child molestation and statutory rape are what they are no matter what the genders involved. A boy might not be able to get pregnant but he risks getting an STD or getting the woman he is sleeping with pregnant. And getting a woman pregnant isn't as consequence-free at it was when I was growing up. There's very few fears I have over my son or my stepson impregnating anyone before he's ready to be a father.

Mrs. Letourneau's lover claimed he wasn't a victim. I think he lost a lot of opportunities and choices in his life before he ever knew he had them... which is sad. This boy is a victim, too, and I hope the woman who does it is severely punished before she does any more damage.

I guess the age of consent laws are vague or to precise. If you're 18 and you have sex with a minor (some states) who is 17 and 364 days old, you may be found guilty of sexual abuse; however. Once one day later it's legal? Mmm?

Of course there needs to be an age in place; however some teenagers do fall in love with older men. My grandmother was 16 and my grandfather was 19 when they started dating. She graduated high school at 17 and he was there at her graduation. The police we not waiting to lock him up...not in the early 1940s! Why has it changed since? I blame it on technology, TV and the media.

I agree that an adult should NOT be having intercourse with a child! If the child is 15 and the adult is 23 the adult should walk (sorry...RUN) away from the opportunity. Just don't put yourself in that position!

Also, many politicians won't admit to their reasoning about age of consent; however for an unwed 16 year old girl to give birth costs tax payers a lot of money!

You know (Elliott Spitzer comes to mind) politicians enact laws to protect us; however they get caught up violating the same laws!

Some have even been caught having sex with underage human beings. The same people that write the laws find themselves covering their tracks.

Sorry for the rant.
