John Hicknley trying to get home visits from the mental hospital, is this fair

John Hicknley is pushing the courts to let him be able to go home for visits . what happen to justice for all. yes he had a mental illness but since he is better shouldn't he have to do some prison time for his crime? He shoots the president of the United States and he does 20 years in a mental hospital .

He has spent more time in a mental hospital then anyone one else that wounds another person. Most would have done maybe 6 mos. and gotten out.

IMO the man he shot is no better than any other man. IMO he should have been executed for killing the policeman.

Now the hate posts can begin.

Should he be let out for home visits..... IMO NO!

He wounded James Brady he is brain damage for life. I think he should have been sent to prison after his hosptial stay. Sirhan who shot Robert Kenndey is still in prison for life I think Hinckley beat the system and he should be allow to leave the hosptial except for a cell just my thought.

Right on James Brady. Sirhan Sirhan killed Robert Kennedy. Hinkley only wounded Ron, but killed a policeman.

Correct me if I am wrong but, did you mean he should not instead of should be let out?

I think he should have went to prison 19 years ago. I know we need to have understaning and compassion for people with mental illness but Hinckely should have to do prison time.

I know we are supposed to have heart and understanding for a person who is mentally ill and for some people I do but damn why show they be able to get away with murder and rape. Mental illness and the justice system needs work but it is not right to let him just go on with his life unpunish . I think they should build the mental ward right on the prison grounds they can get treatment but they are in a secure setting just a thought.

PRISON'S AND MENTAL ILLNESS

Some prisons do have facilities for the mentally ill. I know from personal experience how hard it can be to have a family member who committed murder and then is found to be mentally ill. No, he didn't plead insanity..he pled guilty to 3 counts of 2nd degree murder. He will some day be allowed to visit with family we hope. I can see both sides..and I guess I have to agree about the police officer...but at the same time..sometimes prisons..the right kind..can have a positive effect when combined with psych therapy.

You have my sympathyI sorry about your family member. I just want those who do crime to serve there time and if they use the insainty defense and win then they should get the treatment but in a prison they have wings separated from the general population for this. It just sucks that Hinckely want to get to go home for visits. He shot at the President he should never be able to walk free agian. There is recovery from mental issuse and people can live normal lives if they stand on there meds but to let him go home for visits is jus twrong.

I see Hinickely got his wish over night visits with his parents he beat the legal system and this is bull. He shoots at the President of the United States and get 20 years in a nice comfortable mental hospital. He should have to go to prison for his crimes he is good enough to go home for visits then put him in prison for his crime. I disagree stronly with the legal and mental health system they are to sick so they are not gulity so they get to do there time in a mental hospital then let out bull they should put the mental hospital on the grounds of the prison and they should not be able not to do some time for there crime. I disagree with the court call on this.

Absolutely NOT!

Prisoners being let out for "vacations" is just nuts in and of itself!

Roadrunner is an unknown quantity at this point
Even is enough - Send the man home.

My life is just as valuable as the Presidents.

It may not be to You Or You Or You
But, it is to the people that love me.

You think Hinckley would still be locked up if
he shot you or I.

Let him out.
