Well I have had LOL moments during this book - this is one of them - it is during the second week of jury selection and between passing the flu around and the heavy schedule people are suffering.....On Wednesday of the second week, we had to break at midday because Baez was throwing up in the bathroom. The way he was sucking down Red Bulls and energy drinks, I'm not surprised he got sick.

Well, bless his heart. Didn't he go to the hospital early on in the case with some sort of tummy troubles?

Apparently the gesture that Old Coot made that wasn't photographed is called bras d'honneur.

Thank you Nawny for posting this link. I'm going to try to get this one, too. I read Ablow's Scott Peterson book, and not knowing much about the subject, it did help to fill in a few gaps for me.

I finished my book this morning. I enjoyed it. I wanted more but it still gave me the background I wanted to hear about. Loved the PT's labelling of Casey's stories as Casey 1.0, Casey 2.0, etc, ending with Casey 4.0 - but he also mentions Cindy on Dr. Phil bringing up the seizures as the birth of 5.0. They also got used to using the phrase "end of the hall" in every day situations but it began with Casey's Universal lie that she held on to until she reached "the end of the hall". I think I have changed my mind and would read Mason's book. According to Jeff, Mason bit off more than he could chew and instead of elevating the stature of the defense with his participation - Baez brought them all down to his level. Same with Ann Finnell - wasn't a strong supporter of the defence strategy but hung in there because she is the sort that makes a commitment and sticks to it. He doesn't hold back about his disappointment with the jurors. Lots more but I gotta go and do some work around here. More later!!

Thanks Sherlock, I'd like to think that's what happened with Mason, but IIRC, he stated at some point that he knew what really happened when he joined the team; however we now know that What Really Happened Changed after he joined the team. That sounds like a nuclear lie in itself. Still, a lot of THs gave Mason respect for his past record. As for Finnell, I don't think she cared so much about a defense strategy as her focus was on the death penalty and how to avoid it in the penalty phase. I'd like to believe that anyway.

I don't understand the criticism toward Ashton revealing the shrink stuff; it was part of the case because the defense made it part of the case. If it was plain old medical records I could understand. Food for thought the next time a Nuclear Liar gets caught with a mountain of evidence against her/him: your psycho secrets may make the front page.

Casey Anthony: Jeff Ashton says state attorney pushed for death penalty

...Ashton reiterated his reason for writing the book. “People were so upset with the outcome that I felt like I needed to try to give them … a way to deal with it,” Ashton told Fox...

    http://blogs.orlandosentinel.com/ent...h-penalty.html

I think we were all disappointed; did the book help anyone come to grips with the verdict?

You know how in Demolition Man, someone tells Stallone "Now all restaurants are Taco Bell"? Maybe all pro-Casey posters are one person, too. Casey Anthony now has access to online, and I'm looking at the pro-Casey comments...some of them sound familiar. Just saying!

BoB, I haven't been actively looking for pro-NL comments. Where will I find them? Are they at Hal's? He has some very outspoken posters. Like very.

I'm afraid to ask what NL stands for, but I was looking at the comments attached to this: http://blogs.orlandosentinel.com/ent...h-penalty.html One of them even has her eyes.

I have not finished the book yet. I have to say it gave me peace thus far. When i opened the book and saw it dedicated to Caylee and the fact that the truth is out from somebody who fought her fight. Ashton was Caylees voice and our's too. It brought me a sense of calm

Thanks Beem. I just can't imagine that people literally think that a guy who labored for victims' rights for most of his career is suddenly out to cash in on blood money with this one case, especially considering how much the Ants have made off Caylee (and may continue to do so). I place the blame for the verdict squarely on the Feeble Minded Twelve and Cindy Anthony's choosing Casey over George and Caylee.

Finally watched the Sheaffer interview and it's comforting to see that in hindsight he still has an unfaltering belief that Casey is a murderer and that the jury just didn't get it. Not sure anything could have been done any differently.

JA mentions the holes in their case. He knew it could be a problem for the jury when everybody said Casey was an excellent mother and then trying to put it together that she might have killed Caylee. The only person that he knew could testify that she wasn't a good mother was Cindy - but Cindy would never own up to the fighting or the threats to get custody of Caylee. I also thought it was interesting that Jeff writes about George and Cindy being well-liked in their community and with their co-workers. I guess what likely kept people from coming forward and supporting them was due to the fact that they blatantly ignored reality and believed their daughter.

I don't see the testimony that Casey was an excellent mother as being a hurdle considering who it came from - none of them experts, or parents, or from the sound of things particularly sober at any given point. And that's not meant to be any kind of scathing bash; they were college kids doing what college kids do and all seem to have moved onwards and upwards (with a couple of exceptions regarding attitude), but they don't know from parenting, let alone excellent parenting.

But considering this particular jury and that they were far more interested in feeding their faces than facing the forensics, it became a problem. They were as lazy as the Nuclear Liar herself ever was/is.

Your welcome. I do place it on the "12" too. They wanted all the questions answered. They never are at trial. There are always elements only the killer knows. Their deliberation was nil. I think they spent more time deliberating what movie and restaurant. Yes if JA was interested in money he would not have stayed all those years fighting for victims. It was great to hear from KB and BS again. Such a voice of reason.

Jeff said he was concerned when in Linda's opening statement, the part where she shows a picture of Caylee alive and smiling, followed by a picture of her skeletal remains - and the jury showed no reaction.

I just feel so bad for the guy. I am adding more layers to my analogy of Cindy and am starting to see her as a perfectionist and co-dependant mix. Casey has her totally perplexed because it was one thing she couldn't control. You have a husband who has faults but basically marches to the beat of your drum. You have a son who is so good he is basically invisible but you have a daughter that isn't fitting with the program. I think Cindy had a small phase of clarity when they were told what the defence was going to do to George and Lee. I think she got her back up and was ready to defend her men - nobody comes into her territory and tries to harm her family - including her men. Unfortunately, her denial and fixation on Casey eventually took over again and she went back to her old ways. I believe if I was Lee, I would walk away from my mother and not look back. Sounds harsh maybe - but she chose her murdering daughter over her husband and her good son. I can relate some with an alcoholic brother and a mother who is forever making excuses for him at everyone else's expense.

Oh, and I found a typo in the book. Strange - with that many eyes waiting to devour every word, you would think someone would have double-checked a few things. Back to reading, tah tah!!
    Good post Sherlock!

Have you read the comments on Amazon yet? Interesting points of view.

No not a good start. It would concern me too. I cant imagine having no reaction. Guess it makes sense tho when those 12 chose set a killer free. Funny my Daughter asked me what i thought the jury would decide in the MJ/CM case. I said the Anthony trial taught me never to predict despite the evidence. I really thought MCA was going down. Perhaps this is a better sentence for MCA. Her life in all likely hood will be a waste. A huge waste.

O/T has anyone else seen the commercial John Walsh does for 5 star emergency response? What a great idea. Available at Walmart and other stores i didn't catch. I would assume a monthly charge?? Small pocket device and one push of a button and you are connected with 5 star/911. With Xmas coming what a great gift!!!! It could save a life. From a health issue to a crime. GPS tracking device also.

That is a good idea! That and one of those car-window breaking hammers with the seat belt cutter built in. Give those two things, and your peeps will know they are loved.
