My take on this is that you do not need to punish the players of this time for what the coaches did or what admin. did. When you stop the program from playing you punish the players more than the people responsible.

Should the school pay? Why yes, dearly. Should the players pay? Don't think so. That is the old "baby/bath water" thing. Force the school to completely change coaching/atheletic director type people, from the top down. Force the school to pay what is correct to victims. Why punish someone who is not involved? At worst, let them transfer to another school and not sit out a season. (as NCAA rules state)

Mike Vick got his own behind in trouble, not a coach or administrator. From what I read none of the players who would be punished by banning football at Penn State had anything to do with the cover-up or crime. Just sayin'

I know but they had to do something. They have fired everyone involved but the school had to be punished.
One should never choose a school based on sports.

I wouldn't personally be able to do that, just too klutzy but some students may have no other opportunity to get an education. I wonder if there has been lessening interest in the Penn State football program since this story broke.

Ex-Penn State president says he didn't protect Sandusky, was himself an abused child



The former president of Pennsylvania State University, Graham Spanier, has written a letter to the university trustees denying he shielded Jerry Sandusky, the child molesting assistant football coach.

Spanier rebuts the claim in the university-sponsored report by Louis Freeh, the former FBI director, that Spanier and other officials enabled Sandusky's crimes to continue and failed to show empathy for the victims. Spanier also says that he himself was the victim of abuse as a child and would never cover up or defend such action. He doesn't specify what kind of abuse he suffered, but he has previously described being beaten by his father; his attorney said Spanier was not referring to sexual abuse.

"It is unfathomable and illogical to think that a respected family sociologist and family therapist," Spanier wrote, "someone who personally experiencedmassive and persistent abuse as a child, someone who devoted a significant portion of his career to the welfare of children and youth, including service on the boards of four such organizations, two as chair of the board, would have knowingly turned a blind eye to any report of child abuse or predatory sexual acts directed at children...

Jerry Sandusky voicemails to "Victim 2" released by lawyers who plan to sue Penn State



(CBS/AP) A man who claims he was "Victim 2" - the boy assaulted in a Penn State shower by Jerry Sandusky - intends to sue the university for its "egregious and reckless conduct," his lawyers said Thursday.

Former Penn State assistant coach McQueary files whistleblower suit



(CNN) -- Former Penn State assistant football coach Mike McQueary, who testified that he saw Jerry Sandusky in a shower with an underage boy, filed a whistleblower lawsuit Tuesday against the university, according to a court document from Centre County, Pennsylvania...

In support of McQueary's whistleblower claim, the lawsuit states he was the only assistant football coach who was not invited to interview for employment with the incoming new head football coach after longtime coach Joe Paterno was fired amid the Sandusky scandal.

McQueary also claims he was the only former employee who was not reimbursed for legal fees, and that he did not receive his severance payments on time.

The lawsuit states McQueary believes those situations and his employment termination were the result of his cooperation with authorities in the Sandusky case...

Penn State coach Sandusky denies he molested children



BELLEFONTE, Pennsylvania (Reuters) - Former Penn State football coach Jerry Sandusky, on the eve of his sentencing for molesting children, on Monday denied he committed the "alleged disgusting acts" and said his wife has been his only sex partner.

Sandusky, 68, in a taped statement carried by Penn State's student radio station, said he was wrongly convicted of 45 counts of child sex abuse, crimes for which he could spend the rest of his life behind bars after his sentencing on Tuesday in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania...

The judge held an 80-minute briefing with attorneys on Monday to make final preparations for the sentencing hearing.

Sandusky, 68, once a celebrated figure in college sports, stood in a red jumpsuit when Judge John Cleland imposed the sentence. He had faced a maximum of four centuries behind bars without parole.

Sandusky has been locked in Centre County prison since June 22, when a jury of seven women and five men found him guilty of 45 out of 48 counts against him for sexual abuse of 10 young boys...

YW, Beem Was just flabbergasted to hear the statement last night and today apparently the defense doesn't know exactly how the broadcast came about, but I think that it happened just goes to prove what a misguided (at best) or evil (at worst) psychopath he is. Or sociopath. They both seem to fit.

ETA: Thought the judge did a great job in his remarks this morning, but wouldn't have minded seeing him get more time.

Sandusky will be allowed to keep $900G in pension money

HARRISBURG, Pa. – Pennsylvania's public employee retirement system says Jerry Sandusky will get to keep more than $900,000 in state pension payments he received after his 1999 retirement from Penn State University.

The State Employees' Retirement System said Thursday it won't seek repayment of the money Sandusky received from 1999 to September 2012 because the state's forfeiture law does not authorize SERS to go after money paid before the date of a plea or conviction.
