COLUMBUS, Ohio – Some executions in the U.S. have been put on hold because of a shortage of one of the drugs used in lethal injections from coast to coast.
Several of the 35 states that rely on lethal injection are either scrambling to find sodium thiopental — an anesthetic that renders the condemned inmate unconscious — or considering using another drug. But both routes are strewn with legal or ethical roadblocks.

um, maybe my humanity is less than it should be, but why exactly do we care how much it hurts to be executed? did any of these people care about the pain they were inflicting when they committed the crime that GOT them on death row in the first place? doubtful. so why exactly should we care if they are awake for their own death or not? quite frankly, call me sick if you must, but it seems to me that these people SHOULD suffer in their last minutes....isn't that the point of punishment?

Apparently the shortage is so bad some elective surgeries have been postponed. They seem to be holding it back for medicine rather than executions until the prob is solved... http://lawmedconsultant.com/994/sodi...several-states I'm okay with that, if that's really what's happening.
