PHILADELPHIA – A person familiar with the team's thinking says the Philadelphia Eagles are strongly considering releasing Michael Vick.
The person says the team might cut Vick no matter what police conclude during their investigation of a shooting that followed the quarterback's birthday celebration in Virginia Beach last week. The person spoke to The Associated Press early Saturday on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the situation.
Vick has said he had nothing to do with the shooting. He also said he reported the incident to the Eagles and to the NFL. Commissioner Roger Goodell told the former Atlanta Falcons star after reinstating him last season that his margin for error was "extremely limited."
Vick is entering his second season with the Eagles and is due to earn $5.2 million. A three-time Pro Bowl pick, Vick is Kevin Kolb's backup and the most experienced quarterback on the roster following the trade of Donovan McNabb.
The Eagles were heavily criticized by animal rights activists and fans for signing Vick last summer less than a month after he finished serving 18 months in federal prison for his role in a dogfighting operation.
Team owner Jeffrey Lurie called Vick's actions "horrific" and "despicable." He said he did serious "soul-searching" before agreeing to sign him.
Vick was a model citizen off the field and in the locker room during his first season with the Eagles. He was popular among his teammates, who voted him winner of the Ed Block Courage Award.
But this latest incident could end up costing Vick his job, even if he's exonerated of any wrongdoing.
Vick was expected to play a major role in Philadelphia's offense running the wildcat formation. Instead, he was used sparingly. Vick completed 6 of 13 passes for 86 yards and one touchdown and ran for 95 yards and two scores. He tossed a 76-yard TD pass in a 34-14 loss to Dallas in the playoffs.

Vick signs 1-year deal with Eagles
Under rules of the collective bargaining agreement that expires at midnight Thursday, a team must pay a franchise player the average of the top five salaries at his position. Vick would make an estimated $20 million under this tag.

Bill Plaschke: Don't be fooled by the 'new' Michael Vick
The NFL is back, and so is America’s favorite football villain, running the field, juking the world, boggling the mind.
It’s still a Vick-eat-Vick world out there.
This time, Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick is destroying his image with his mouth, saying some things in an upcoming GQ magazine story that are far more stunning than last season’s 100.2 quarterback rating.

One thing I have come to learn over the years is---when it comes to sports, franchises, colleges, even high schools tend to find ways to get around behaviours and words of their "stars" because, golly, we NEED (insert name here) to win (insert sport here.)
I hadn't watched much baseball since the days of Pete Rose and Johnny Bench, and quit altogether w/the first strike, so when I read the gazillion times Darrel Strawberry was "forgiven" for his behaviours, I was amazed!!! (Besides, how good can your game be if you are strung out on chemical substances?) Even in our local school, the "jocks"--male and female are the ones @ the underage drinking parties, having sex and all that. What happened to having to have a certain grade average, not drinking, etc? Being kicked off the team if you coudn't follow the rules?
I don't think Michael Vick should be welcomed back w/open arms, but there are some sports fans who first of all, think going to prison was a little harsh=---I suppose they figure he could shell out a few thousand bucks to PETA or the Animal Society and be done w/it? And, of course, they see nothing wrong w/his being able to return to the game. Heck, there are some who probably don't see anything wrong w/dog fights--good clean fun, ya know.

Does anybody have a link to those Boycott Subway fliers?
I heard that Vick is their "Poster Boy" , and they just made another attempt at starting up a franchise here."Now that she has been acquitted for murder and cannot be tried again, she should tell us in the interest of science how she did it!" ---Sir James Paget, St. Bartholomew's Hospital on the aquittal of Adelaide Bartlett for killing her husband with chloroform in 1886

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!! Poor Mikey!! They're picking on him again!!
Michael Vick breaks hand in rough day for QBs
Vick started for Philadelphia despite suffering a concussion in last week's loss at Atlanta. He left the 29-16 defeat at the hands of the New York Giants with the broken hand in the fourth quarter after helping the Eagles overcome a 14-0 first-quarter deficit to take a 16-14 lead.
It's uncertain how long Vick will be out.
Vick not only was hurting, he was annoyed that no flag was thrown on the hit by defensive lineman Chris Canty. It appeared Canty hit Vick in the facemask with his helmet. Vick sat on the ground, lifted his helmet off slightly before getting helped up by a teammate and an official.
"Every time I throw the ball, I'm on the ground," Vick said. "I get hit in the head. I don't know why I don't get the 15-yard flag like everybody else does. I'm not trying to blame the refs. I just want them to take notice."

Is Michael Vick Being Treated Unfairly by Officials?
Michael Vick said that he wasn’t complaining and that he wasn’t blaming the officials … and then, if my reading comprehension skills are still O.K., he complained and blamed the officials. On the play in which he hurt his hand: “It was on the pass to (WR) Jeremy (Maclin). (It was) Just an unfortunate situation, after such a great play, and I felt like I got hit late. There was no flag. Broke my hand.”
On whether his hand was on his helmet when he got hit: “It really doesn’t matter where it was at. I was trying to protect myself. Still didn’t get a flag and that’s pretty much been the story for the last three weeks. I mean obviously at some point something catastrophic is going to happen and I broke my hand. Not to blame the refs or say that it was their fault. It’s just one of those unfortunate situations and I just think more precautions should be taken when I’m inside the pocket. I mean if you look at all the replays, I’m on the ground every time and it’s unfortunate for myself and it’s unfortunate for my team and I’ll be lying if I said I wasn’t, if I were to sit here and say I wasn’t frustrated right now because of that.”
On whether he feels he’s not getting the calls other quarterbacks do: “Absolutely.”
On why he feels he doesn’t get the calls: “Why? I mean, you all see it. There’s no reason for me to go into a big dissertation about why I’m not getting the calls. The refs, they have to do their job as well. I even mentioned it in training camp to the refs when we had our little meeting, so just for precaution. But hey, I don’t know.”
On whether he felt that there were other late hits on him: “Everybody saw the game. I was on the ground constantly. All of the time. Every time I throw the ball in all my highlights and just watching film in general, every time I throw the ball I’m on the ground, getting hit in the head and I don’t know why. I don’t get the 15-yard flags like everybody else does but hey- I’m not going to complain about it. I’m just making everybody aware and hopefully somebody will take notice.”

Agree!!! Maybe this injury will be his "graceful" way out--I was going to post a link from, I think last week, where I tho't I read (again) that he still wasn't safe from being cut.
So, did the other fellow purposefully hit him in the face mask? Maybe ol' Vick got in a position so the other fellow was on a collision course he couldn't change? by the way, wouldn't that be one reason they even wear the freakin' things? BECAUSE GETTING HIT BY ANOTHER PLAYER IS KIND OF WHAT THE GAME IS ABOUT. The face mask sort of protects your face--too bad, in some cases, IMO.
Guess he hasn't heard about big boys don't cry--especially big burly football players who, if they show any emotion while dogs are injuring, maiming and killing each other, they show elation and laughter, high 5's I'm sure, if their dog comes out the top dog.My invisible friend says you have issues.

LOL
Personally, I don't watch football, only did in high school because of good looking classmates playing (I had a chance of dating them, if they asked. I'd have no chance in hades dating any college or professional fb player, so it's of no interst, lol.) Anyway, when I think of foot ball, I think of guys getting knocked down. All the replays show whomever has the ball (whether running or getting ready to throw) getting knocked down. Usually a whole pile of fellows stacked up on those plays. So, if he had the ball, I would imagine the other team would be running toward him, trying to sack him (see, I remember some terms, lol!) and, if he throws the ball right as they are getting there, I think it's a little much to think they can just stop the momentum in a heartbeat. Consequence--HE'S GONNA GET HIT, FOR PETE'S SAKE!!!! Maybe he doesn't understand the concept of the game?My invisible friend says you have issues.

I guess less thugs, but the only thing I know about hockey is the on-ice fighting!!! And players in the penalty box!! Oh, yeah, you scoot the puck to the goal with the big stick (that is a useful weapon against the opponent, lol) and the guy @ the goal tries to deflect the puck w/his stick, and if that doesn't work, he throws his body in front of the goal to keep the puck out.

Yeah-but the hockey players don't run around killing people and animals, toting guns, running people over with their cars and just driving off-a la Marshawn Lynch for example-the whole OJ thing...they might get drunk and get DWI's now and then-and I'm not condoning that-but football is a thug's game in my eyes.
