US asks Peru to extradite van der Sloot for trial related to Natalee Holloway killing
A Peruvian court is considering a U.S. request to extradite convicted killer Joran van der Sloot over charges related to the 2005 death of Alabama teenager Natalee Holloway, a judiciary spokesman told NBC News on Tuesday.
The 24-year-old Dutchman, serving 28 years for murdering business student Stephany Flores in a Lima hotel room, is the chief suspect in Holloway's 2005 disappearance in Aruba. He faces U.S. extortion and wire fraud charges.
"Yes, the request has been made ... we are discussing that subject now," said Juan Medina, a spokesman for the Peruvian court system...

Interesting, wonder why the US is so desperate to bring him here. Why can't they just wait until his sentence is up in Peru? Love the comments at the link.
Thanks for posting.

Heard a few minutes of the discussion on TTV/IS today and someone suggested that since VDS' sentence in Peru will be so long, that it's possible that witnesses in this case could be difficult to find or might have memory lapses or could die before they get him in front of a judge, so this way they could have it on the record for him to serve a sentence here when/if he finishes his sentence down south.

I like the idea of him being adjudicated and if he doesn't make it through the Peruvian sentence, then oh well. The comments there at MSNBC were pretty spot on!

Call me sick and twisted, but I keep an eye on this board because I'm hoping that I'll find that The Frying Dutchman will have offed himself or someone assisted him in taking himself out.
As for the extradition, I say GOOD!!
I agree with the reasoning behind it.
If or when he's freed by Peru, he'll have to serve his time here.Anything written below the web links are MY OPINION-NOT FACT!

Joran Van Der Sloot To Face Extradition Hearing In Natalee Holloway Extortion Case
Joran van der Sloot has been ordered to face an extradition hearing that could send him to the U.S. on charges of extorting money from the family of missing Alabama teen Natalee Holloway.
In papers filed Wednesday, a Peruvian judge scheduled the extradition hearing for May 8. The court proceeding will be held in Lima's Superior Court.
Peruvian extradition hearings usually last a day or two, and a council typically gives the decision as soon as they hear all the evidence.
Van der Sloot has been indicted in the U.S. on charges that he extorted $25,000 from the mother of Natalee Holloway. The 18-year-old from Mountain Brook, Ala., vanished while on a class trip to Aruba. She was last seen leaving an Oranjestad nightclub with van der Sloot, then a 17-year-old Dutch honors student living in Aruba. Holloway's body has never been found, and van der Sloot has not been charged in her disappearance.

Joran will be miserable in the US awaiting trial ...
Detox and no prostitutes on demand will cause him to be one unhappy guy.
As for offing himself, a good possibility in a Peruvian prison which allows an ongoing flow of drugs. He's what, 25 years of age, and look at him, dead man walking.

Good points Simplicity - and I'd be terrified to use drugs in prison in his situation - too afraid someone would facillitate an accidental suicide.

Joran Van Der Sloot to Fight Extradition From Peru
The lawyer for Joran van der Sloot says his client will fight extradition from Peru to the United States, where he is charged with extortion and wire fraud...
Altez says that if his client were convicted in the U.S. he wouldn't likely qualify for early parole in Peru.

Joran Van der Sloot to Fight US Extradition from Peru
The prime suspect in the unsolved 2005 disappearance of American Natalee Holloway, Joran Van der Sloot, told a judge on Tuesday that he will fight extradition from Peru to the United States, where he faces extortion and wire fraud charges in connection with Holloway's disappearance.
Van der Sloot faces an indictment in the U.S. for allegedly accepting $25,000 in early 2010 in exchange for an unfulfilled promise to lead Holloway's mother's lawyer to the body after her disappearance in Aruba...
"It's not good for us if Van der Sloot goes to the United States because everyone hates him there and the members of the jury will thus be biased," said Altez. "We will defend ourselves with all the legal remedies possible."...

Joran van der Sloot's U.S. Extradition Approved
The Peruvian Supreme Court has approved the extradition of Joran van der Sloot to the U.S. on charges of extorting money from the family of missing Alabama teen Natalee Holloway.
There is just one small catch -- Van der Sloot's extradition will not take place until he serves out his 28-year sentence for the 2010 murder of 21-year-old Stephany Flores. The Peruvian business student was killed five years to the day after the unsolved disappearance in Aruba of Holloway.

Peru court: Can extradite Dutchman after prison
LIMA, Peru (AP) — U.S. prosecutors who want to try Joran van der Sloot for extortion related to the 2005 disappearance of U.S. teen Natalee Holloway will have to wait until he finishes serving a murder sentence in Peru, this nation's Supreme Court has ruled.
Van der Sloot's lawyer, who was notified of the decision Friday, said Monday that he expects his client will be made to serve at least two-thirds of the 28-year sentence.
The court's May 23 decision on extradition is not final, however. Peru's justice minister and Cabinet must endorse it, said the lawyer, Maximo Altez.

Joran Van Der Sloot, Stephany Flores Killer, Impregnates Woman While In PrisonAMSTERDAM -- A newspaper said Monday that Joran van der Sloot, a Dutch man who is serving a 28-year-sentence for murdering a young Peruvian woman, has impregnated a woman while imprisoned in Lima.
The Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf cited Van der Sloot's lawyer Maximo Altez as saying the pregnancy is past its third month, and Van der Sloot himself as having confirmed the news in a telephone call on Saturday.
"A test has proved" the pregnancy, the paper quoted Van der Sloot as saying...

The lawyer representing Joran van der Sloot today shot down reports that the Dutch playboy who is suspected of killing Natalee Holloway had impregnated a Peruvian woman during a conjugal visit in his Peruvian prison.
Van der Sloot told Dutch newspaper, De Telegraaf, that a woman identified only as "Leidi" was pregnant with his child.
"A test has proved" the pregnancy, he told the paper.
But van der Sloot's lawyer, Maximo Altez, told ABC News the reports are not true and the woman, whose real name he said is Carol Figueroa Uceda, told him she was not pregnant...
