Club-owner and celebrity scratcher Adam Goldstein, who was far better known by the moniker DJ AM, was found dead Friday in his New York apartment, E! News has confirmed. He was 36.
Details have been sparse so far, but the New York Fire Department has confirmed that a body was discovered at Goldstein's Lafayette Street address at 5:24 p.m. and was pronounced dead at 6 p.m. The body was not transported from the scene afterward.
The New York Post, citing NYPD insiders, have reported that drug paraphernalia was found near the body. Officials have said they found no evidence of foul play.
"Adam 'DJ AM' Goldstein was found deceased this afternoon in his New York City apartment," read a statement released by the late artist's rep. "The circumstances surrounding his death are unclear. Out of respect for his family and loved ones, please respect their privacy at this time."
A neighbor told E! News that there were police at the scene when she returned home this afternoon.
"I came home and there were police cars everywhere. My doorman told me someone died in 7A and I knew who it was," she said. "The whole front of the building is filled with police blocking if off with barricades."
"I know he has been here for the last week and a half, but I haven't seen him," she added.
Goldstein, who along with Travis Barker survived a fiery plane crash that killed four others last year, had recently finished shooting an eight-episode series for MTV about addiction, Gone Too Far, in which he opened up about his past struggles with substance abuse.
Within minutes of the news breaking, Barker's ex, Shanna Moakler, had tweeted: "My deepest condolences for DJ AM, you were a great artist and will be severely missed. My thoughts and Prayers to his family and friends."
Don't know what happened to you Adam....
RIP :rose:

DJ AM Specialized in Beating the Odds

DJ AM 's Tuesday afternoon tweet quoted Grandmaster Flash, prophetically so: "New york, new york. Big city of dreams, but everything in new york aint always what it seems."
No, it isn't.
With word today that DJ AM had been found dead in New York, the inspiring story of one of the music world's premiere spinmeisters took a terrible turn: The man who had seemed incapable of being beat, whether it be by plane crash, obesity or drug troubles, had been beat.
At 36, DJ AM was a little less than one year removed from the Lear Jet tragedy that killed four people, and left him and Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker the only survivors.
"My deepest condolences for DJ AM, you were a great artist and will be severely missed," Barker's wife Shanna Moakler said via Twitter.
Born Adam Goldstein in Philadelphia, DJ AM achieved fame beyond the club scene for his romances with Mandy Moore and Nicole Richie

he was very talented. I remember seeing pictures of him with Nicole. I think he used to be very overweight at one time and lost it all. IMO RIP

I guess this is so strange because it reminds me of the movie(s) Final Destination..
To be one of only 2 survivors in that plane crash and kick a severe drug addiction like he talked about on MTV..11 years straight/sober despite the crash...then to go like that....just wrong.
He and his model girlfriend Haley broke up a few days ago. If that's the reason...

DJ AM's death ruled accidental drug overdose
By COLLEEN LONG, Associated Press Writer Colleen Long, Associated Press Writer – 1 hr 37 mins ago
NEW YORK – DJ AM died accidentally from a lethal cocktail of prescription drugs and cocaine, the medical examiner's office ruled Tuesday.
The toxicology report showed the 36-year-old had in his system cocaine, OxyContin, Hydrocodone or Vicodin, antianxiety drugs Xanax and Ativan, Klonopin which also controls anger, Benadryl, and Levamisole, a drug apparently used to cut cocaine.
The cause of death was acute intoxication due to the combined effects the drugs, the medical examiner's office said. The dosage of each drug was not released.
The celebrity, whose real name was Adam Goldstein, had openly discussed past addictions to crack cocaine, Ecstasy and other drugs.
He was found Aug. 28 in his apartment in New York City's trendy SoHo neighborhood after a friend called 911. Paramedics had to break down the door before they found him, shirtless and wearing sweat pants, in his bed around 5:20 p.m.
Six pills were found in his stomach and a pill in his throat when he was found dead in his apartment. The pill in his throat appeared to be OxyContin. A crack pipe and prescription pill bottles were discovered there.
In October, MTV was to debut his reality show, "Gone Too Far," in which he and concerned families staged interventions for drug abusers. MTV hasn't said whether Goldstein's show will air.
Goldstein was critically hurt in a plane crash last September in Columbia, S.C., that killed four people. He was flying in a Learjet after a performance with Travis Barker, a drummer for the pop-punk band Blink-182 and Goldstein's partner in the duo TRVSDJ-AM.
Barker and Goldstein were burned. Goldstein had to get skin graft surgery but resumed performing about a month later.
Goldstein was known for his mashups — blends of at least two songs. He performed in clubs, on concert stages and at exclusive Hollywood parties. He was famous in part for his personal life — he dated actress-singer Mandy Moore and reality TV star Nicole Richie.

MTV to air DJ AM's series `Gone too Far'
NEW YORK – MTV is going ahead with plans to air the late DJ AM's "Gone too Far" documentary series, in which he and concerned families staged interventions for young drug abusers, with the first episode set to air Monday.
The 36-year-old celebrity spinner, whose real name was Adam Goldstein, was found in his Manhattan apartment on Aug. 28 after a friend called 911. The medical examiner's office has ruled that he died of an accidental overdose of prescription drugs and cocaine.
MTV says in a statement that it decided to move ahead with the eight-episode series, created and hosted by Goldstein, with the consent and support of his family.
Goldstein had openly discussed past addictions to crack cocaine, Ecstasy and other drugs.
