MIAMI (AP) -- Florida's Department of Corrections says three employees have been fired and two others have resigned after more than 40 children were shocked during stun-gun demonstrations at three prisons.

The incidents took place in April on national "Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day." As part of demonstrations at two prisons, children as young as 5 held hands in a circle. Then one of them was shocked with the stun gun, passing the shock around the circle. At another prison, children were shocked individually.

The corrections department says the children felt the shocks either directly or indirectly, but none of the was seriously hurt. All of the children have parents who work for the department.

Some parents even gave permission for their children to be shocked. But Florida Corrections Secretary Walter McNeil says that didn't excuse officers for using stun guns.
