Amber alert issued for missing 4-year-old girl; mother’s body discovered
Kansas City Police have issued an amber alert for the 4-year-old daughter of a woman whose body was discovered this morning in her Kansas City apartment.
Police were called to the apartment at 4023 Harvard Circle about 9:15 a.m. and discovered the 27-year-old woman’s body. The apartment complex is near Interstate 70 and Sterling Avenue.
The woman’s 4-year-old daughter, Allyson Corrales, was missing.
Police also are looking for the girl’s father, Luis F. Corrales, 31, who they are describing as a person of interest.
The family’s car, a red 1999 Kia Sportage, with Missouri license plate PB1 R3R, is also missing.
Luis Corrales’ car was towed from the apartment parking lot this afternoon.
Anyone with information is asked to call the TIPS hotline at 816-474-8477.
An order of protection was filed against Luis Corrales in November, according to Jackson County court documents. At that time, he listed an Independence address.
In December, a judge ordered Corrales to make monthly child support payments.
Police Capt. Rich Lockhart said the woman’s body was discovered after her brother reported that he had not talked to her since Wednesday night.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Authorities have issued an Amber Alert for a missing 4-year-old girl whose mother was found slain in their apartment late Friday morning.
Investigators are looking for Allyson Corrales and her biological father, Luis F. Corrales, 31, according to a news release from the Kansas City, Mo., Police Department.
They described Luis Corrales as a person of interest in the "homicide/abduction investigation," according to the news release.
Luis Corrales may have relatives in Houston and Manassa, Va., according to the news release.
He had been working in San Antonio but came back to Kansas City to visit his daughter on Sunday, police said.
Though police hadn't yet released the identity of Allyson Corrales' mother, her family said she was Katia Lainez, 27.
Lainez' brother-in-law, Orlando Melgar, when to her apartment in the 4000 block of Harvard Circle on Friday morning to check on her because her sister, Lelis Melgar, hadn't heard from her since Wednesday night.
The apartment management let him into her unit, and he found her dead inside.
Orlando Melgar didn't see any obvious wounds on her body, he said.
"I didn't see blood or anything too," Melgar said. "I don't know how. I don't know how."
Lainez's sister, Lelis Melgar, said she was feeling pain for her sister but also was worried about her niece. In Spanish, she urged anyone who saw her to call 911.
Lainez had a restraining order against Luis Corrales and she had sole custody of Allyson Corrales, according to investigators. Lainez's family said Lainez feared Luis Corrales and that he was a very jealous person.

Amber Alert lifted for missing girl, but KC police continue searching for child, father
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Kansas City police are canceling an Amber Alert issued Friday for a missing 4-year-old girl.
Police say they'll continue searching for Allyson Coralles, whose mother was found shot to death in their home. Police are also searching for the child's father, Luis Coralles.
The family vehicle, a red Kia Sportage with a Missouri license plate, also is missing.
Capt. Rich Lockhart says the alert is being lifted because they're believed to become less effective after 24 hours.

Murdered Mother Laid to Rest, Child Still Missing
KANSAS CITY, MO. - Family and friends said their final farewells to a murdered mother whose child became the center of an amber alert.
Katia Lainez was just 27-years-old. She loved her family especially her four-year-old daughter who is still missing.
Katia was found murdered in her Kansas City apartment just two weeks ago.
Friday, her family gathered at the Mount Washington Cemetery with friends and family sharing stories about her life.
But, they say it's not just her death that is the hard part. It's the fact that no one knows where her daughter Allyson Corrales is.
She has been missing since the day of the murder. Police in Kansas City, Missouri called for an amber alert just minutes after learning the young girl was missing. But, that amber alert has since been called off.
The TIPS Hotline has received dozens of calls. But, so far nothing has panned out.
Police are also searching for Allyson's biological father, Luis Corrales.
Katia had a restraining order against him and sole custody of her daughter. Family members say they feared he would do something bad to them.
Police are still just considering him a person of interest

Car in Amber Alert case found in Texas
A vehicle that Kansas City police have been looking for in connection to a March 6 murder and Amber Alert has been located in San Antonio.
The red 1999 Kia Sportage was owned by Katia Lainez, 27, who was found dead in her Kansas City apartment. Police did not find the woman’s 3-year-old daughter, Allison Corrales, that day and issued the alert.
Police did not find the girl, but she is reportedly with her father and the two may have been headed to Mexico.
Kansas City police have been looking for the girl’s father, Luis F. Corrales, 31, since the murder. He is considered a “person of interest.” He was barred by a protection order from seeing Lainez, but his car was found at the apartment complex near the Truman Sports Complex.
On Sunday in San Antonio, the Sportage was involved in a traffic accident. The driver told police that Corrales, a native of Honduras, let him have the car in return for enough money to buy bus tickets for himself and the girl to get to Mexico.
Two Kansas City detectives flew to San Antonio on Monday to speak to the man. Police spokesman Capt. Rich Lockhart said now that it’s been established the girl is with Corrales, the FBI can be brought into the case because she is an American citizen.
Lockhart also said that police would pursue kidnapping charges against Corrales. He is the father but was barred by court order from seeing the girl.

Police Follow Tip On Missing KC Girl
KANSAS CITY, M. -- A girl missing from Kansas City for nearly a month was spotted in Texas with her father, police said.
Allyson Corrales, 4, has been missing since her mother, Katia Lainez, was found stabbed to death inside of her apartment off Interstate 70 and Sterling Avenue on March 6.
Kansas City detectives headed to Texas after police received a tip that the girl was seen in San Antonio with her father, Luis Corrales, a person of interest in Lainez's death.
San Antonio police said that on Sunday a man wrecked Lainez's 1999 Kia vehicle in their city. They traced the car, which had been missing since the day of her slaying, to the Kansas City girl's disappearance
The man who had the car said Luis Corrales gave it to him four weeks ago.
Lainez's sister was waiting anxiously in Kansas City for news about her niece. She told KCTV5 News that she's worried yet relieved to know that police are one step closer to bringing Allyson home.
Police said Lainez had a restraining order against Luis Corrales, and he did not have custody of the girl. So, they are asking a judge to charge him with kidnapping, so that they can look for her in Mexico. Police also have leads that Corrales could be hiding in Honduras or El Salvador.
