Donna Lea Smith
Donna Lea Smith , 52-year-old former teacher at Park Vista High School in Lake Worth, Florida faced a jury this morning, accused of sexual activity (http://www.teachercrimes.com/?p=1699) with a teenager.
Smith stands charged with five counts of the crime as well as lewd and lascivious molestation for alleged repeat sexual encounters with the boy.
Smith’s defense attorney, Richard Lubin, told jurors this morning that the troubled teen sexually attacked Smith (http://www.teachercrimes.com/?p=1699). She did not immediately report it to police, he said, because she cared for him and did not want him to get in trouble - but did want him to get help.
The therapist testified today that days later he did ask the teen about sex and was told of repeat consensual encounters with Smith. The therapist then contacted child abuse investigators as he was required to do.
The teen, now 18, also testified today answering Assistant State Attorney Angela Miller’s questions about multiple alleged encounters, punctuating his answers with “Yes, ma’am” and “No, ma’am.”
