John M. Jagla, 25, a former freshman boys basketball coach at Hamilton High School in Lisbon was placed on five years (http://www.teachercrimes.com/?p=1683) of probation Monday after pleading guilty to a felony that stems from a sexual encounter with a 17-year-old female student there.

Jagla pleaded guilty to causing mental harm to a child, a felony, which carries a sentence of up to 12 years in prison.

The prosecutor and defense attorney agreed that Jagla was not a habitual sex offender and was remorseful for what he had done. Both recommended that Jagla be placed on probation, meaning he will not need to register as a sex offender in the community where he lives.

Jagla was one of two Hamilton coaches from Menomonee Falls who were charged in connection with sexually assaulting the same girl in separate incidents.

Matt Pagel was accused of having sexual relations (http://www.teachercrimes.com/?p=1683) with the student from September 2006, when she was 15, to summer 2007. Jagla was accused of touching her inappropriately Jan. 19, 2008.
