A sign marking Jersey Street between Fargo and West avenues as “Anthony Capozzi Way” was unveiled Friday.

Capozzi, who grew up on Jersey and whose family still lives there, was wrongly convicted of two rapes. Police later discovered they had been committed by Altemio C. Sanchez, the Bike Path Killer.

Capozzi spent more than two decades behind bars and always maintained his innocence.

“Though we will never be able to repay Anthony and his family for the injustice they suffered, we can honor their faith and dedication today,” said Niagara Council Member David A. Rivera at the unveiling of the sign.

Also on hand for the ceremony was Assemblyman Sam Hoyt D-Buffalo.
